good first game against the cards tonite. 10-1 win. Andruw seems to be finding his swing. I know a .220 average isnt good, but considering it was .198 about 3 weeks ago....its very good.

it's kind of fitting.

If he does it in Milwaukee, which is where Aaron began and ended his career.

Atlanta, no explanation needed.

I fucking hate Barry Bonds, but I'm kind of caught up in watching the record breaking homerun... it brings me back to my kid days when I was watching Sosa and McGwire go for Maris.... then I found out they were fakes too...

I honestly do not think Cox will let him break the record against the Braves out of respect for Hank. Assuming he gets to 755 against or by the time Atlanta shows up in SF, I think Cox will just have each pitcher throw low junk and hope he grounds out.

The first 3 hits he had last night came with a bat that had the braves championships listed on it, which was originally supposed to be used as memorabilia.

and a nice grab from willie tonight... he needs to quit getting hosed at 2nd though.

^ and willie actually quit using it after he got the first 3 hits assuming he had used all the hits in that bat up... definitely not a typical action from a baseball player... not using something that keeps working

You guys better pick it up a bit. The Mets lineup is about to be whole again for the first time since the beginning of May.. and Beltran and Delgado are heating up.

GG to the Braves and Dodgers bullpens yesterday. Instead of the Braves being only 1.5 out, they are 3.5 out and basically just blew a 10 game homestead against shitty teams.

^ Yeah I heard that too last night. What a douche. Smoltz did not pitch around Bonds at all the enitre night. He simply threw a splitter on a 3-2 count hoping Bonds would be aggressive. Smoltz was on last night and if it weren't for Reteria's error and the one bad pitch to Sweeney, he would have thrown a shutout.

The Giants lineup is pathetic. Ryan freaking Klesko is Bonds's protection

It's really a shame they suck balls on offense. They have awesome young pitching potential with Lincecum, Lowry, Cain and Sanchez among others. Their farm system sucks. When Kevin Frandsen is your big position prospect you know you're in trouble... They do have a ton of money though and Magowan will spend...

I still think A-Rod will be a Giant next year...

p.s. - The game last night sucked... except for the beer.

My fucking god, how does this happen? I mean really. Hudson pitches an absolute GEM and then it just gets ruined. He even got some great run support. I really hope the Braves trade for Teixera from the Rangers. He is a solid 1B, something the Braves havent had in a long time. I think thats what has kept them back from the next step. They have never had the big power hitting 1B that most championship teams have.

what kills me is how good this bullpen was supposed to be, and how good they were until the week before the all-star break continued into now. I can't remember the last game that the bullpen didnt give up a few runs

Smoltz needs to man the fuck up and move back to closer. Its a lot easier to find a good starter than it is to find a great closer. And Smoltz was one of the best there has ever been.

I also have a good bit of money on this game. I had a 4 way parlay going with Atlanta being the last game paying 12-1. Not going to loose a lot if Atlanta looses, but the difference in losing $100 and winning $1100 is huge given the results of this game blowing a 4 run lead in the bottom of the 9th.

well they finally pulled it out, 7-5. I also found this from the atlanta braves site in the "NL Trade Rumors" section:

Quote :
"The Braves and White Sox may have discussed a trade that would send shortstop Edgar Renteria to Chicago in exchange for starting pitcher Jon Garland. The move would be made to give Atlanta rookie Yunel Escobar the every day job at shortstop and make Kelly Johnson once again the full-time second baseman. Garland is making $10 million this season and is due $12 million is 2008. -- Jeffrey D. Lutz"

i would shoot someone if that happened

That is a horrible move. I didn't want Furcal to go. Then I didn't want Betemit to go. Renteria NEEDS to stay.

They need to get Teixeira, move Smoltz to closer, and acquire another starter.

That statement is wrong as fuck.

Also:

"

During the Braves run, they've had at least four power hitting 1B. McGriff, Galaragga, Klesko, and LaRoche. LaRoche had 35+ Hrs just last year - what the fuck do you mean by long time. The true problem with the Braves was generally sucking under pressure during the playoffs. Last year it was the horrible bullpen that blew ~30 saves.

They haven't had a true power hitting 1b in about 10 years. I consider that a long time. McGriff did great for a few years in the early and mid 90's. but overall, they really haven't. Sure LaRoche did good LAST year, but before that it was Julio, and a combination of older or undertalented players.

And yes, it is easier to find a good starter than it is a GREAT closer. You can go out and make a trade for a good starter, because there are more than them in the league than GREAT closers.

you guys are crazy if you want smoltz back in the bullpen. the pen is probably the best asset the braves have right now. they're doing a pretty damn good job. smoltz needs to remain a starter. smoltz and hudson can get it done on a regular basis. every other starter the braves throw out there I really have no confidence in. they are all just decent.

You're pretty much insane if you want Smoltz to move back to closer. You always want to use great pitchers as starters, if they have the arm stamina to do so. Why do you think the Red Sox have toyed with the idea of moving Papelbon to a starter? All the predominant theories on baseball (Moneyball, traditional, etc...) agree that a good starter is more valuable than a great closer.

Thats what I wanna know. And how is it INSANE for wanting Smoltz to go back to closer? He was one of the most dominant closers of his time.

Actually it had nothing to do with the value of a starter versus a closer in this case. Papelbon has a fragile arm and the organization figured it would be easier on his arm to be a starter instead of a closer (i.e.- warming up once every five days gradually instead of 4-5 times a week in a hurry).

how is it a strong point?

well, um, because they've been doing a good job?

there a several talented middle relievers and set-up men?

the fuck kind of question is that

Smoltz is coming of of injuries, he is older, and would be better served being in the bullpen. If they can trade for Garland, it would be a smart move to move Smoltz to the bullpen, replace him with Garland, and get rid of the waste of space known as Wickman.

Did you watch any of the games in June? Did you watch the game 2 nights ago when they gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the ninth? If thats doing a good job in your eyes, I feel for you in the real world.
