- maximus is a horrible troll
- Matt Ryan is not that great. Maybe a mid-tier NFL QB.
- Turner is a straight up beast.
- This is probably the Cam Newton you will see for the rest of the year. He's still over-achieving, but he's still a rookie. He has played pretty bad at the end of the game when there's still a chance. Hopefully that will improve.
- Atlanta will not make the playoffs. Sorry Jaybee...but both of your teams suck this year.

Nah I'm pretty confident he'll be much better the rest of the year.
He'll certainly average more than a touchdown and less than 2 interceptions through the rest of the season, which would be better than this game from a passing standpoint.

^He hasn't exactly been facing the best passing defenses in the league (Jacksonville being the best (14th), and that was probably his worst game statistically.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him throw a lot of picks the rest of the way as he continues to force things. 10/17/2011 11:25:16 AM |

^^One INT was just a tipped pass -- and it wasn't even tipped by the defender guarding Cam's target. It's shitty but it happens. Hard to put that one on Cam.
The second INT was a bad play and pretty much sealed the game. I'm sure Cam just didn't see the defender (it was a dlineman who dropped back into coverage at the last second), but it still was bad.
The third was an end-of-the-game heave. Again, can't really put that one on Cam ... he was just doing what all QBs do in that situation. Throw it toward the endzone and give your guy a chance.
Three INTs look bad on paper, but only one was a bad throw. Still, the good thing about Cam is he always seems to know where to go with the ball. That's one thing that impresses me most about him. Even if his throws are off target, they're almost always the right read. 10/17/2011 11:37:31 AM |

^That's pretty much the case with most interceptions. It's not like Cam's INTs are any different than most QBs.
I'm not saying he's not going to be great...I'm just saying that he's a rookie. Go look up Peyton's first year stats. There aren't too many first year world beating QBs. The only ones that have good records are guys that are added to stacked teams and only have to "manage" games. 10/17/2011 11:42:55 AM |

I was surprised at how effective Atlanta's run defense was. Stewart and Williams weren't exactly blowing up the stat book yesterday. I also think Carolina should throw in a few more designed runs for Newton. Take advantage of him while he's young.

from this weeks MMQB:
Quote : | "6. I think you'll see an interesting new commercial on the air next Sunday. (You'll probably be so sick of it in two weeks you'll never want to see it again.) But it's one of those NFL Play 60 commercials, with players from one team getting on a yellow school bus to the tune of "The Power Is On,'' by The Go! Team. (I had to look that up. There's no way I would know who The Go! Team is -- the band is from Brighton, England -- as you well can figure.) But the song's catchy, and this commercial is pretty good too.
It's the Carolina Panthers on the bus with kids, then getting off to exercise with them. There's Cam Newton, nodding in tune with the song, and Steve Smith, and Ron Rivera, and Jon Beason, and other players ... and -- spoiler alert now -- when the front door of the bus opens up to let everyone out, you see the driver. Jerry Richardson, the Carolina owner. In a spiffy blue suit. "When we heard Mr. Richardson would be the driver, we were all like, "Whoaaaaa,'' said Beason. Beason agrees with me: "The music is very catchy.''" |

we'll need a few more LB's for that to be viable
or maybe Hardy could be a rush OLB, he's 6'4" 277 with some decent speed. probably Norwood too. i assume Johnson would stay as a DE...we would need a bigger DE to play opposite Johnson though.
thing is, James Anderson doesn't really fit into a 3-4 does he? he would have to move inside, but we have Connor as well. i'm interested to see how this will play out. 10/17/2011 2:44:10 PM |

we're giving up 140.3 rushing YPG, good for 31st in the league.
we're sandwiched nicely in between the Colts and the Rams. though we've got a cushion before being the worst...the Rams are giving up 163 rushing YPG
^McClain or Fua could move to DE if Fields and Kearse handle the middle] 10/17/2011 3:05:26 PM |

that cushion will go away quickly considering we have to defend Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Arian Foster, and Michael Turner once more over the rest of the season. 10/17/2011 3:08:13 PM |
