Not sure if this has been mentioned but the documentary "Schooled: The Price of College Sports" is on Netflix and about a quarter or so of the documentary talks about UNC and its academic scandal as well as interviews with Mary Willingham - quite interesting. Maybe this has been mentioned here. But, its nice to see their scandal made a pretty big documentary - well done documentary by the way too.

They are totally deflecting from the larger issue, which is the no-show classes, to the debate over college-preparedness of athletes. Ah well, it's still hilarious watching their name get drug threw the mud, along with the general shittiness of their basketball team this year.

And now another word from Herr Chancellor:

Quote :
"Dear Carolina Community:

In the days since my last message to you, I have been made aware of – and read for myself – examples of heated conversations inside and outside of Carolina regarding many of the issues I addressed: the integrity of our support for student-athletes and their success from admission to graduation. I closed that email by saying, “Whether we agree or disagree, we must welcome healthy debate, respect each other and in that way show the true character of our Carolina community.”

Today, I am asking for a renewed effort by everyone, regardless of your opinions, to encourage civil debate and discourse about these complex issues. I hope that we can talk about these topics in an informed way without resorting to personal attacks directed at students, faculty or staff members. Carolina character lives in our words and deeds.

Sincerely,

Carol L. Folt
Chancellor
"

I guess we shouldn't talk crap about President Ginger "Girls Name" Lambden. Got it.

did Willingham ever claim that she had IRB approval in the first place? seems as though they're just trying to play gotcha with her. they're being extra quiet about the data she actually studied.

ironic, given how many times uncch* has already been caught red-handed numerous times with fake classes, unauthorized grade changes, and forged professor signatures among the many other "prongs".

what a bunch of gutless cheaters.

Quote :
"Chancellor: UNC-Chapel Hill academic oversight failed for years — Chancellor Carol Folt told UNC-Chapel Hill trustees Thursday that "there was a failure in academic oversight for years" that allowed the education of student-athletes to suffer and that all students deserved better from the university."

^^^ that just implies that higher-ups weren't responsible - they're just trying to preemptively pass the buck now that they're somewhat realizing they can't cover up everything.

In a healthy body, a healthy mind: After this venerable motto U.S. colleges offer their students more than just gyms for your evening. The sporting competition of educational institutions has become a professional operation, in which wooed talented athletes with scholarships, on top of that they have to hope for discounts on the academic expectation. The University of North Carolina has obviously driven very far: The University at Chapel Hill have some of her students left in the lurch for years, said Chancellor Carol Folt. Although the Institute is one of the best public universities in the country. The establishment but has made ??two years ago headlines because BASEketball points for courses given that they had never visited. Meanwhile, a student counselor at the University has sounded the alarm again: Many of the basketball and football players in their clinic could not even read well enough to track reports of their matches, some not at all. Almost ten percent, according to estimates Mary Willingham, do not reach third grade level. "What kind of courses they should show there to make here a degree?" For the university apparently not the first concern: 2012, University of redeemed solely from the men's basketball nearly 17 million dollars. Although the Institute Willingham considered information skeptical, new studies should now take place. "There was a lack of oversight, so that the grievances could go on for years," Chancellor Folt told CNN. research by the transmitter suggest that ten percent of college athletes remain elsewhere on the primary school level. For President Barack Obama that is not a reason to rejoice. In its state-of-the-Union speech, the basketball fan has just praised, the rate of educational attainment is the highest for more than 30 years. But not in any degree apparently also lives the necessary spirit. "

right PJ - people were pissed just because you got a speeding ticket. it had nothing to do with all the other benefits you and your school got and never had to worry about punishment for.

dude's just pissed he got caught and subsequently got to hang out under the UNCCH* bus.
