yeah, I know how filling scholarships work. I'm wondering if Gottfried is holding out for Purvis and Warren to sign the last two scholarships. Or if we land, say Purvis and Amile Jefferson, and TJ Warren also wants to join, would Gottfried cut a current player's scholarship or switch them to being a walk-on or something to make room for a top tier recruit? 7/25/2011 2:36:41 PM |

Doesn't sound like something that would be legal. Players sign their binding national letter of intent contract, entitling them to a scholarship. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but unless they fuck it up (flunk out, get arrested, etc.) then the coach can't revoke their scholarship, especially in favor of a better prospect.7/25/2011 5:08:26 PM |

yeah it definitely would not help Gottfried's reputation. though i do think that some players sign scholarship offers that are renewed every year, and others are offered scholarships that are good for 4 years. 7/25/2011 5:19:10 PM |

Pretty sure every scholarship is renewed yearly. Don't think there are "four year scholarships."
It would just be absolutely retarded to not renew a scholarship just because you wanted a better player or someone wasn't playing well. You would get destroyed by the media and on the recruiting trail. 7/25/2011 5:24:50 PM |

The players know if the coaching staff has them in their future plans or not. That's when they'll go looking to transfer in order to play more minutes elsewhere. 7/25/2011 5:46:36 PM |

you can drop a players scholarship but it never happens quite like that because like someone mentioned you'd get killed on the recruiting trail in the future for it.
The player always transfers or takes a job with the team like Lewandowski did when he is asked to take one for the team like that.
I mean if my coach said hey man it's not working out and you'll never play another minute at this university I'd transfer for sure. 7/26/2011 8:14:38 PM |

Quote : | "A layman's guide to the Class of 2012
Rodney Purvis, 6-4, SG (Raleigh, N.C.)
Telep: "He's a litmus test recruit for Mark Gottfried at NC State. The Raleigh resident, since decommitting from Louisville, has been the new State coach's top target. Missouri accepted a commitment from his high school teammate and then took another player from his AAU program. Duke was in the mix but isn't recruiting any more guards this year. Will it come down to the Pack versus the Tigers, or will others get involved? Everyone recruiting him knows that he will immediately get buckets on the college level."
Brennan: As Dave said, this is a pretty big one for Gottfried. Purvis would be the first high-profile recruit of the new era at NC State, one that began after Sidney Lowe's talented 2010 class underwhelmed in his final year at the school. The Wolfpack have some talented youngsters on the squad, specifically forward C.J. Leslie, who could be in for a big year this season. But the long-haul expectations of the NC State fan base -- which is rightfully tired of seeing Duke and UNC cherry-pick top young talent on an annual basis and eager to rise to a similar, if not identical, level -- demand a recruiting breakthrough that feels less like a quick fix and more like the start of something special. There may not be a more important recruitment on this list. " |

Here's part of the PP article...nothing earth shattering, but it's got some good quotes from Purvis.
Quote : | "“They’re recruiting me pretty hard right now,” Purvis told Pack Pride about NC State’s involvement. “They’re close to home. I’m just taking my time and making sure it’s the perfect fit. But I’m looking at other schools too, so I need to figure things out.”
At the moment, Purvis has shut down much of his recruitment as he focuses on winning at AAU Nationals and also enjoying his last AAU tournament of the season. He currently has no time frame for a commitment or a concrete list of schools.
“I’m going to sit down after Nationals is over with and figure things out,” Purvis said. “Right now I’m just focused on winning Nationals and spending this last tournament with my team.”
Still, Purvis notices to presence of Wolfpack coaches at all of his games during July.
“I’m talking to (NC State) every chance that I get. They’re out here watching me a lot and our relationship is getting pretty good,” Purvis said.
Rodney has developed a strong relationship with assistant coach Orlando Early.
“My relationship with Orlando, it’s pretty good,” Purvis said. “I’ll give him a call every once in awhile. He’s out at my games watching me.”
Purvis is also spending AAU Nationals playing with Pack commitment Torian Graham, who recently came back from a knee injury.
“It’s great playing with Torian. He’s coming back from his injury but he looks good. He’s still healing a little bit,” Purvis said. “Anytime teams help off on me they leave him wide open. I just try to get on the same side as him so that when they help off I can pass it to him because nine times out of 10 he’s going to knock down that jumper.”
While Purvis enjoys playing with Torian, he also acknowledged that his decision to commit to a college program will include other factors.
“At the end of the day I have to make the best decision for me,” Purvis said. “For NC State and Torian, it fits perfectly. But you never know. I have to take my visits and find the best situation for me.”" |

that said, he's doing a great job. we're going after big time players and it seems to be paying off. we'll see where Purvis decides to go in the next month, so here's to hope. i just can't see him going to Mizzou, and Duke is out of the running. that leaves State, right? 7/28/2011 11:21:40 PM |

what if purvis and reinhardt both commit? a big-man would be nice in 2012, but we'd be fine with 2 talented big SGs , right? 7/29/2011 12:22:16 AM |
