So who's Pack Pride rallying around as the new coach?

Has someone offered to be an indentured sexual servant to Rick Barnes yet?

It appears that Sean Miller is the new Rick Barnes, but they're spending most of their time arguing about Gregg Marshall.

How long is Miller's contract? He's only in his 2nd year at Arizona. It doesn't really matter, I see no way he would actually come here.

Depends. He has 40 years of ties to the east. Maybe if we offer enough money (probably 2.3+ million a year. I think he's making close to 2 million a Arizona)

If the magic number to get him is 2.5 million do we want him? Is Sean Miller worth that kind of money?

^^I would say yes, if it takes 2.5 million to get Sean Miller then pay him that much. However, I don't think he is going to leave Arizona.

I dont see why the money makes a difference

If we want to hire Sean Miller we think he's going to be our guy, right? You drop as much cash as possible. In the interview Parrish had on the radio where he tries to justify trolling NCSU fans on twitter he talks about how Arizona had to "overpay" Miller to get him to go there. WTF? So what, at 1.5 million he wasn't going to be overpaid but at 2 mil he is?

It's either a good hire or it isn't. The money doesn't make a difference unless you are Wendell Murphy. Lowe is making peanuts in comparison to some other coaches and you could say his results are matching up with that...but it's not like we're going to keep him around because he's performing to his contract

While I don't expect Dixon would leave...the best conference? based on what? regular season records and depth? Definitely not based on national titles

Championships are overrated in any sport. They're too fluky, especially in one game contests, to be the main factor when determining success

Continued dominance is the real measuring stick, and the Big East has dominated the sport for the last 15 years.

I agree that the Big East has been the best "overall" conference over the last 10 years

disagree that championships are overrated

I think we can agree the SEC has been the best football conference over the last 10-15 years, based on both consistent domination, AND national titles

In basketball I'd say that the Big East has been more consistently dominant, but that the ACC has won titles in 5 of the last 10 years, with 3 different schools

And I don't think national championships are overrated at all, its every team's goal every year, and when its all said and done, its the only thing that matters.

Further, I don't know how Pitt has been the best team in the Big East over the last 10 years. I'd give that nod to UConn or Syracuse.

FUCK THAT. What proof do you have that the SEC is the best football conference, even over the last 5 years? Including winning %, national titles, etc...

Well I think the AD would like to try to stay in the black as much as possible. Although with the right hire we'd probably more consistently fill the RBC center. If we paid enough money to get Barnes, Wright, or even Miller, and they managed to somehow win 30 games (including post season), you best bet that place would fill up.

We averaged just over 13K a game last year, and the RBC center seats just under 20K for basketball. Lets say we get 6K more a game with 17 home games (I think we had that many last year). That's 102K more tickets sold a year. I don't know what the average ticket price would be, but you can see at even 20 bucks a ticket it's over 2 million a year.

There's this dude out in i think New Mexico or Arizona that's had some success but isn't doing so hot currently (is like 1-10 in the PAC) and might be getting the boot

i think we should get him, i feel he'd be a good fit

can't remember his name though

I would shit myself if we manage to win 30 games, but if we did manage it then it almost certainly wouldn't materialize until the new coach's 3rd year at the earliest.

How will people react if the team goes 4-3 to close out the season, makes it to the semi-finals or finals of the ACC tournament, and Yow decides to give Lowe one more year?

[Edited on February 8, 2011 at 6:03 PM. Reason : Vsure, its possible. we did it sid's first year with less talent ]

^^It's hard to say how I'd feel. I think most of the fan base has already decided that Lowe should be let go at the season's end. So, regardless of what happens the rest of the season there will a lot of upset people if Lowe is still here next season. Personally, I think I'd be pretty upset. In 5 years he hasn't done anything, but based on a 10 games stretch we give him another year...I don't know. I don't like that. It's clear he's not going to get it done here, and my mind is already made up that I want him fired...but I'm not the one making the decision.

4-3 finish with an ACC tourney run (without winning it) would be like finishing off a meal of feces with a bottle of Boone's Farm. (wild cherry, of course)

you seem to be missing my point. i'm not saying that would be a good finish, or i'd be happy with that finish. i'm creating a hypothetical scenario. we win some, and debbie yow keeps him.

No one is missing your obvious hypothetical point. But 99% of posters stopped playing that game 2 weeks ago. It would of course suck if that scenario played out.

^5, I agree. If we show no improvement the rest of the regular season and finish 3-13 or 4-12 in the ACC but we win the ACCT by some miracle, I don't know that I'd be willing to give Lowe another year even then. We've been bad for pretty much the entirety of his time here except for a few moments (beating Duke last year, UNC his first year, and the ACCT run his first year)...I don't think it's worth giving him another year based on the team getting hot for a 4 game stretch.

That said, if we do somehow win the ACCT he'll probably be back next year...

You have to remember that the people plastering their opinions on the internet represent a tiny percentage of the people filling the seats. If you talk to some of the older fans you won't find the same unanimous feelings about letting him go.
