I was at least able to find a primary care place open today so I don't have to pay double the copay to go to urgent care. So that's one thing going for me.

For anyone in the Morrisville/Cary area, Avance Care is an Urgent Care like place open Saturdays and Sundays, 7am-8pm on the weekdays, but they don't charge at the Urgent Care rate. They're awesome, and I use them for everything outside my lady parts doctor.

a question for the dog people on here:

my dog just attacked another dog and got ahold to its ear and i wouldnt let go for like 2 minutes. I couldnt pry the mouth open or anything i just stablilized her head so she couldnt thrash until she just decided to let go or readjust or whatever. Are there rechniques to getting a dog to release the grip. beating her fuckin ass didnt seem to work, but i wore her ass out when we got in the house

Beating your dog afterwards doesn't do anything to fix the problem.

But I don't have an answer to your question.

I know with bully breeds and other dogs with strong jaws, they suggest to carry a "pry bar" around with you if you are gonna be around other dogs for this situation exactly. Something that you can wedge in the mouth and pry open- I think a piece of wood cut off of a broom stick would do it. I mean, it is a bit unrealistic to say carry it everywhere, but if you know (s)he will be socializing with other dogs, doesn't hurt to bring it.

oddly enough, my dog was attacked a year ago by a pitbull that has always been a well behaved dog imo. The breed did not have anything to do with it, it had to do with dominance. My dog is a real bitch to other dogs, literally bc she is not fixed. Anyway, my dog tends to growl around other dogs to show them who is boss, in all honesty she needs to be fixed, but we weren't given many options when we rescued her.... anyway, long story short. The dog came out of it's yard and grabbed my dog by the skull and shook her. The owner came sprinting and tried to pull his dog off, and I just kicked it feebly in the ribs once. The owner I guess convinced his dog to snap out of it by talking to her very firmly but directly.

It was scary, but having a dog like the one I do, this shit happens... you have to be vigilant, because this is exactly what they are entrained to do. All you can do in a neighborhood is avoid it, even if you have to beat your dog,or the other person's dog to keep them from engaging. Once they are in a fight and they are closely matched, then imo there is not much you can do but try to get them calm. However if your dog is attacking a much smaller dog, then put a choke hold on your dog.... a real one. I know that will sound like abuse to everyone on here, but aggressive dogs are different from friendly dogs. If your dog is capable of killing another dog or hurting human, you need to show your dog you can threaten their lives if they behave aggressively toward a nonthreat.

where did you rescue the dog from? every shelter and rescue organization I've ever worked with will either advocate fixing their animals or go ahead and do it before you get it. The only surgeries that are no-no's are things like clipping tails/ears and declawing cats.

we were not able to do it through a shelter, if she had gone to one, they told us they couldn't help her, they could only put her down because she was far too aggressive. And at first she really was that aggressive, she would bite you if you tried to wipe her down with a towel, a very real bite.

so why can't you get her fixed now? If it's a money thing, the SPCA runs a clinic that you can get it done for <50 bucks. It is not only a behavior thing, it is also a health thing- that is a site that loves to get cancer in older dogs. Not as bad as testicles in male dogs, but it really is something that you should look into.

We have a vet who is willing to come to our house to see her so she can prescribe her pills or something to put her under, so that we can administer it and then take her to the surgery, I am not exaggerating about how bad she is with health procedures. from clipping toe nails to putting on flea medicine.... she is still a biter so, it is a slow process.

I would think they would just muzzle her and then give her some IM sedation- that's what we do with the super fractious animals we come across. Haha I've heard of some cases where they gotta sedate the dogs in the owners car because they can't even get the animal into the building. Best of luck with all that!

how does everyone wind up with dogs like this?

my father's hobby is training german shepherds and he's never had one that didn't listen to him - they start to go after another dog and one word from him stops it immediately.

IS MY FATHER BETTER THAN YOU PEOPLE OR SOMETHING

I know, we have tried to muzzle her. Tried many times, and it ended with blood and her shaking in a corner because she bit me.

meh, she is coming through it... she just needs exercise and some time, she has come alonggggg way. She likes people now. She just needs to adjust a few more screw in her head. lol

thanks
