And such a crappy history that we trail only Duke and UNC in ACC titles. And we neck-and-neck with UNC for the lead until the late 80s. But other than that, yes, our history is riddled with suck and failure. 2/11/2011 6:57:51 PM |

Good read, from the DBR perspective.

Wow, that article is right on the money. Of course, DBR always seems to get it right (and is always really nice to state). This was pretty interesting...
Quote : | "If that makes State the worst high-paying job in the country (as Parrish claims), where does Boston College rank? Al Skinner was FIRED after leading the Eagles to seven NCAA Tournaments in 10 years. He produced four ranked teams to one for Sendek. He had a .600 winning percentage to .591 for Sendek. He had a .500 winning percentage to .450 for Sendek.
Yet, he was fired while Sendek decided to leave because he wasn’t appreciated enough.
Which school – N.C. State or Boston College – has the most unrealistic expectations?
The implications of all this is that – N.C. State is a second-rate basketball program that should have been content with Sendek’s modest – and it was VERY modest – success. The Pack’s current misery is a fair punishment for the program’s delusions of grandeur. " |

DBR has always been super fair to State fans from what I read.
Someone should email that to Parrish. That's from the horse's mouth. State is a proud program with a ton of history to be proud of...when even your rivals can admit it, then you know it's true 2/12/2011 11:00:20 AM |

No articles change the fact that, when faced with trying to find a new coach, our fans immediately assume we can steal a coach from a top 5 school and that if we don't, it's the fault of something other than their expectations.

BTW...
To all the doom and gloomers who think that firing Sidney and getting a new coach means starting all over with a decimated team...
What happened to Clemson when Purnell left?? Serious question, but did they lose anybody? Any recruits? I can't remember. All I know is that a new coach has a great chance at taking them to the tourney. And I don't think they have any McDAA's on their team...or even top 30 recruits (like Harrow and Brown).
If this is handled the right way, we can avoid defections and actually have a good season next year. 2/12/2011 5:24:49 PM |

I hardly ever go to pack pride, but I was intrigued by the "big name coaches" thread
just found this gem:
Quote : | "I think Barbee from Auburn would be a good coach. Auburn is horrible this year but that is because they have no players. One of their starters who would have been a walk on is on an engineering scholarship. I've watched some of Auburns games and they play with passion and determination. In the LSU game they almost beat them after scoring only 6 points in the first half, gaining 40 points in the second half. At one point they were a couple points behind them. He's been succesful everywhere he has went. Once they get good players Auburn will be good in basketball. " |

I don't recall anyone jumping but only two recruits were signed and they were 2 stars so they probably didn't have too many other big name teams trying to get them. They have one McDAA (Milton Jennings I think?) but they have a lot of really solid players who had defense hammered into them (Purnell was a pretty damn good coach considering the talent level on the team). I don't think it is unrealistic to think we will lose some of the recruits but you gotta break some eggs to make an omelet right?2/12/2011 6:51:10 PM |

To me it doesn't seem that hard to see what we need:
Go get a proven winning coach at the mid-major level who coaches two things really well:
1. DEFENSE 2. TOUGHNESS
Sid's teams have all lacked the two above IMO. If I am Debbie You that is what I am looking for. A proven winner whose teams play great defense and play super hard every night out. To me, this more than anything else, makes for a consistent winner. See: Mike Krzyzweski, Bo Ryan, and Brad Stevens to name a few.
You could argue that Ryan and Stevens aren't great offensive coaches (not that Stevens has had all that long to prove it) but their teams win A LOT b/c they play great defense and they are tough. 2/12/2011 6:53:38 PM |

PackPride has it on good authority that we should be able to get:
-Bill Self -John Calipari -Rick Pitino -Jay Wright -Thad Matta
Why wouldn't we be able to get them? I mean, we DID win national championships when they were in school. Thus, we deserve it.
I swear these people have been in comas since V was given the boot.

Whether you want him or not, Pitino went from KY to LU (which would be like us getting rw), these guys are not that loyal. Fucking anyone (short of K and RW) is for sale.
Money talks - if we are serious, we have time to go after some big names. If we are not willing to pony up the dough, then we are going to get a mid major up and comer which is always a gamble. 2/12/2011 10:20:40 PM |
