i agree. everyone in the theater laughed, but i got the impression that the laughing wasn't a bad thing. that it was intentionally over-the-top and supposed to be silly.

"As for the people who are considering seeing it in IMAX: I recommend it, but you better get there early. I saw it at Discovery Place this weekend and was pinned down at the bottom right of the theatre. Because of this, it was nearly impossible to take in everything that was happening. I ended up just picking out a small portion of the screen and focusing on it for much of the movie. It got so bad during the hand-to-hand combat scenes, I would just give up and shut my eyes -- it was humanly impossible to process everything that was going on. I walked out of the theatre feeling like I'd just been in 2.5 hours of turbulence -- my head was completely scrambled.

BUT, there are a few shots that are absolutely breathtaking (the overhead shot in Hong Kong, for starters). I'd say go see it in IMAX for the money shots if nothing else. Also the sound will blow your mind. Summarizing: if you're going to see it in IMAX, don't sit near the bottom.
"

that's the problem with seeing it in an "omnimax". These movies aren't meant to be shown on something like that.

the flatscreen imax in raleigh won't be that bad. You will still want to sit near the back if possible.

as for charlotte, concord mills is supposed to be receiving a flatscreen imax in september.

I saw the movie Saturday afternoon at Crossroads (in theater 1). The focus was rather dull and there was a large, lighter than normal block of the screen in the top left corner. I didn't complain during the movie because I didn't want to leave, and there were just too many people in my aisle. Afterwards, I went to guest services to complain. They ended up giving me back the money for the ticket, and I decided that I'll definitely see it in IMAX downtown next time. Awesome movie!

Yeah...every time I talk to someone about the movie and about how great Ledger was...I also mention how sad it is because we will be deprived of his acting in the future (not to mention future roles as the Joker). I was one of the few people that were optimistic when he was named to play the Joker role. He might not have the best movie resume (but honestly...its actually pretty good), but I've always felt like he was a good actor.

However...thinking about it...I believe it would have been difficult to bring him back in another movie. He's such a captivating character, that it would be hard to bring him back and not have him in a huge role like he was in TDK. I couldn't imagine another Batman film where Joker would play a minor role (at least with Heath playing him). Oh well...those are just my thoughts.

And going back one more time to two-face...I really only remember him from the cartoons. And the cartoons didn't have him as grotesque as the comic books. So I guess I'm a little off-base if they're trying to be original. But if you're going to go that route, I think they could have made it more grotesque and less fake. I didn't think his face looked gross at all...it was almost comical to me.

You have to strike a balance...it needs to be grotesque but also easy to deal with. You can't have people holding back vomit at every appearance of your main villain (assuming Harvey plays a significant part in the future).

For some reason I have a feeling it will change a little bit for the next movie. Probably not drastically...but open wounds like that will change/heal/scab up after a little while.

Spoilers
Someone please answer these questions b/c I'm in Puerto Rico and the movie still isn't out so I had to watch a cam and didn't understand the story fully.

Whats the deal with everyone expecting more two-face. I got the impression that he died at the end of the movie.
Also, was that the scarecrow in the beginning and if so wasn't he against the Batman copycat?
After watching TDK I wouldn't even mind if the third movie had Joker as the main villain again seeing as how he played it so well.
Maybe I'm an asshole but I thought the guys at the end not blowing up the other ships was kind of corny and I expected Joker to blow them both up to make them pay. Did he attempt to do this or not I couldn't tell.
I read some Batman but not enough to have ever heard of Deadshot, is he a legit comic villain?
Maybe I didn't catch it earlier but who was that first guy Two-Face killed at the bar that was bald?
I totally missed Alfreds story about Burma, did he say some dude was throwing out ruby's or what was the deal?
Why did Joker break a broomstick and say he was hiring or something, what were they supposed to do in order to work for him? Were they supposed to fight to the death or something?
Wasn't Batman's new suit less bulletproof and knife resistant but made him more agile?

I think he was dead as well. I guess people in this thread just really like Two Face and hate that he had such a short appearance as a villain. They just don't want to accept it.

I could be wrong.

The point of the story was to show how some criminals aren't as "simple" as Bruce Wayne thinks they are. I.e. they aren't always in it for the money. In his story there was some guy that was stealing precious stones, not to get rich, but simply for the fun of it. They used the story as exposition material for the joker's character.

The only part I must have dozed off during, or missed altogether was what happened after Wayne got sniped in the window. I guess he either had a bullet proof vest on under the dress shirt, they were sniping with blanks, or the guy just missed. Seemed like an elaborate setup with absolutely no point after it was all said and done.

Sure, but at least have him say "ouch" or maybe even grab his shoulder or something in a later scene to acknowledge the fact that he got shot. Otherwise it's pointless.

You're talking about the scene where Joker had that window open and Wayne was shot at?

I think, if I watched it correctly, that the window was only supposed to open to distract Gotham PD's snipers from the Mayor, so "cop Joker" could get a clean shot. Bruce just only happened to be there because of his Batman detective-ing.

But if that isn't up for debate, I think they just missed and Bruce ducked pretty quickly once the window swung open.

I was a little confused about that whole part actually. So Batman recovered the bullet fragments from the wall and analyzed it for fingerprints. So the prints from the bullet fragments were from the dude that lived in the apartment he went to (where the policemen were tied up), right? And was that an intentional clue left by the Joker?

I don't think he was trying to set Joker up or anything ... Joker just happened to use that guy's gun (or, had that guy push in the round) to kill a guy named Harvey and a guy named Dent.

And when Batman found out who the guy was, he realized Joker was probably using that person's residence to set up the Mayor at the police commissioner's funeral.

It was just some guy with an adjacent window. Wayne was hoping to show up and stop a sniper. Instead, he walked in on an automated window that opened to create a distraction for Joker.

That still doesn't address the question:

So the joker knew that someone would be able to trace the killings back to that apartment, even though it required some amazing - unknown to the public - batman forensics to arrive at that conclusion. They also planned on whomever to arrive at the apartment at the precise moment needed to create the distraction. Not the hour before, or a day later.

Yeah, it's a movie. Just sayin'.

He didn't know Bat-gizmos were gonna trace anything to the apartment.

There was a camera on a tripod set up in the window. That would have been distraction enough with how paranoid everyone was ... Wayne just happened to be there at the wrong time.

yeah, it didn't matter if someone was in the window or not, they cops would have still fired at a blind that instantly opened with some apparatus pointing at the mayor

As for the "realism", its not very realistic at all. The DNA results come back the next day and why would they even have the DNA of those three people on hand unless they had done some sort of crime which I doubt considering there positions.

Also, how did the judges DNA get on the card from merely flipping the card over during the court case because DNA does not come from fingerprints. Did the judge not think it was weird that a Joker card was in her case files?

^^I don't remember the details...

But all of those people holding public offices (judge, DA, and Mayor)...wouldn't their fingerprints be on file?? And I can't remember if they said DNA or fingerprints. If they said fingerprints, then that would make sense.

And I completely forgot about the corniness of the boats and blowing up. I will say that it was pretty corny (especially the guy who had been bitching the whole time not pushing the button...but not Devo not doing it, because that kind made sense)...however...it did fit in perfectly with the story/ending where Batman was saying that they needed Harvey Dent and such.

it was DNA, not fingerprints.

and the judges DNA didn't have to get on the card from her handling it in court. Though it's possible. It's possible this is a different card all together.

It wouldn't be too hard to the joker's goons to get DNA from 3 people. Watch CSI, that shit is everywhere!
