If we land Wall... snowball effect happens... all of a sudden Sidney is seen as a top talent recruiter in succeeding years... if we can build our brand for talent like that then we can start to compete with UNC sooner rather than later! 8/14/2008 12:36:39 AM |

well, from what i have heard ... we are really in the mix with Favors and Noel Johnson. Getting LO Brown was the key piece to the puzzle.
there is reasons we are going to have a big class but i was asked not to post b/c of speculation at this point and i dont want to get TWW in trouble for posting premium PP information...
i just checked the recruiting thread on the regular board and some of the stuff has leaked so here are some of the things being talked about:
Johnny will more than likely never see the floor from his injury but a lot of us were getting that feeling.
A lot of people close the program feel that Costner will not be back after this season either. Looks like he will be graduating on time and he has been here 4 years already with the red shirt.
we are still recruiting these kids hard: Favors, Dewitt, Adams, and Johnson.
Oh and Spurlock has committed to UVA

sorry for the double post but:

Quote : | "RALEIGH -- Marques Johnson is on the move again.
North Carolina State said Wednesday that the point guard is leaving the program and the school. Johnson has not said where he plans to transfer.
Johnson played only part of one season with the Wolfpack after transferring from Tennessee.
After sitting out the first semester of last season, he started six games at point guard and averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 assists in 21 outings.
In an interview with News 14 Carolina Wednesday, coach Sidney Lowe called Johnson's departure a "win-win." --- [i really dont like the way that was worded, but in truth...it is]
"When one of your players leaves, it's a tough situation," Lowe said. "Marques felt that he had better opportunities somewhere else and he's going to go take advantage of that."" |

^You didn't listen to that interview then. We may not be at the top of their lists of schools but we all know that that is often misleading and is not necessarily a good indicator of where they end up going. The thing to take away from that interview is that we may not be the leader for either, but we are certainly not out of the running. 8/14/2008 2:54:47 PM |

The only part of that i didn't know was someone being in academic trouble.
We have a better shot with Favors than most believe, and the longer the Wall recruitment goes on, the more it seems like we will land him. I'd say that if Favors leaves Georgia he probably ends up at State. I'd also say the odds are probably in GT's favor right now. If we got Noel Johnson there are rumors that we'd become the favorites for Favors.
All of that was leaked on PP's free board. 8/14/2008 4:58:53 PM |

draftexpress on richard howell:
Quote : | " Richard Howell (#74 Scout, #59 Rivals, #60 ESPN) definitely caught our eye as someone who may be a bit of a sleeper relative to where he’s ranked. He’s a slightly undersized big man with a great frame and excellent strength for a player his age, but he brings a very high skill level to the table on top of that. Howell likes to play facing the basket, where he can put the ball on the floor with a spin move into the paint, or knock down a flat-footed and slow-developing 3-pointer with very nice consistency. He also has good hands and a nice feel for playing inside, and showed off a solid drop-step move inside in addition to a pretty turnaround jump-shot. Howell is just an average athlete and doesn’t seem to play all that much defense at this stage, but he looks like a really nice prospect for Sidney Lowe at N.C. State, especially in that system. " |

If you check out Noel Johnson's list on Rivals, it lists us as High Interest along with USC and UCLA. Miami and Wake Forest are listed at medium interest. The thing that seemed odd to me was that Louisville wasn't anywhere on there, b/c he was high on them at one point. Scout continues to not have us on his list, but they are notorious for not keeping those lists very up to date.

I think if we landed Johnson we would definitely land Favors. I mean he'd get to play with Brown, Howell, and his AAU teammate in Johnson. We'd have a class that could be considered the No. 1 in the nation, and easily beat out the Heels class, especially if Howell and Wood move up like many believe they will due to their performances over the summer. A next gen Fab 5, but we'd have to come up with our own name for them. Perhaps the 5 Pack or just simply Da Pack. I doubt Johnson would end up being a 1-and-done. He'd probably be here at least two years, maybe three. I think it's pretty evident that Sid maybe moving us toward a three guard lineup. Jimmy V loved guard oriented lineups. A backcourt of Lowe, Whittenburg, and Gannon worked out pretty well for us in the final 44 seconds of the 1983 season. 8/18/2008 9:12:29 PM |

Rivals release their new rankings. Scott Wood got bumped from 150 to 126 and remains a three star player. You have to break into the Top 100 to get 4* status. I'm glad he moved up, but a lot of people thought he'd break into the Top 100 with the way he performed this summer.
They have Lorenzo Brown as #43 overall and the #7 PG one behind GT commit Mfon Udofia (how do you even pronounce Mfon anyway?). Based on the video I've seen I don't agree with that one bit. Udofia is good, but I think Brown is clearly the better overall player.
Richard Howell is listed as the #51 overall and the #15 PF. He was previously the #59 player overall and the #18 PF.
Garrius Adams broke into the Top 150. He is listed as #128 overall and the #27 SF.
Noel Johnson moved down a couple of spots. He was #36 overall and the #4 SF, but is now listed as #38 overall and the #7 SF.
I really like how they broke down the class. It's pretty evident why the ACC is usually the top conference, and there are still some uncommitted players that will likely end up at ACC schools.
