My clutch cover, with corrosion, pitting, some surface rust and lots of grime:
And BAM look at this motherfuckin left crankcase cover, which about an hour ago was even worse than the clutch cover:

Yeah, dull brushed aluminum suits the bike better. Plus I don't have the tools, patience or skill to make anything look like that.
Also, I ordered a rear tire from motorcycle-superstore.com this morning at like 8 and just got an email with a tracking number. So thumbs up for them. 7/30/2010 11:59:55 AM |

With a little bit of experience under my belt, I decided to get serious with the clutch cover. Hit that shit with 220, 320, 600, 800 and 1000 grit, polished it up with Nevr Dull and threw on some Turtle Wax for good measure.
Before and after:
That picture doesn't do it justice -- it looks fantastic. I definitely could have spent more time on the hard to reach areas, but I did what I could without being able to remove it. 7/31/2010 12:51:04 PM |

Want so bad
Quote : | "I have an 84' big Sabre 1100cc. It's a great bike but I just do not have the time to work on it anymore. As of now, it's not running. Solenoid is bad and I believe the coils would need to be replaced for it to run again. Carbs and Tank have been cleaned, transmission fluid and oil changed, new oil filter, new fuel filter, battery one year old. There are a few cracks on the instrument cluster and mirror, but both are still functional. I also have a clean title for it. Let me know if interested. $900 obo. Started "resurrecting" my '03 Honda CBR600RR recently. Nothing major wrong with it, it's just been sitting for about 2 years, lol. All my riding buddies moved away, and I got married and started traveling a lot for work. I should've just sold the thing but could never bring myself to.
The other day I rode a buddy from work's Harley, and it reminded me that bikes are incredibly fun. A bunch of my wife's coworker's husbands ride, and a few coworkers of mine have bought bikes recently, so I have a crowd to ride with again.
Done: New Battery New gas Ran some fuel injector cleaner through it, runs a lot smoother after Chain lubed nicely (might need new chain anyways though)
Still left to do: Get both forks rebuilt (blown seals) Oil change New tires Fix registration/insurance
Probably just going to have a shop do what's left, since I don't have a garage to work in or even a paved area to work on, heh. 8/27/2010 9:56:55 AM |

how feasible would something like that be to do. ive tinkered with mechanical stuff in the past, but don't really know much about cars or anything. 8/27/2010 2:23:59 PM |

$100 + a weekend for the Motorcycle safetey course $0-1000 for an old, used bike that runs. You won't know how to do anything at first, but most repairs can be done with simple tools + a manual + internet reference. Most bike models have some sort of online community that can help with repair questions.
Here's a good one: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/1920580794.html 8/27/2010 3:11:56 PM |

I shit you not, folks. Lumex is the guy who bought my dad's bike.
My dad's bike that he owned from the year of my birth until last year. The bike that occupies a significant portion of my childhood memories.
I had wanted to buy it from my dad, but I couldn't figure out how to ask him without him insisting that I just take it for free. While I was strategerizing, he sold it on Craigslist.
I knew TWW would pay off in the end. 9/1/2010 7:46:00 PM |

^8 There ya go. Taking a page from my playbook! (So far, I have one grandfather's '66 pickup that I drove from the time I was a kid...a BMW motorcycle sold new from my other granddad's dealership with his signature still in the manual/service records, and I've found my first car--1971 Cutlass--and an RX-7 that my dad had when I was a little kid. Haven't yet reacquired the Cutlass or RX-7...the owners have wanted absolutely STUPID prices for them...plus I'm running out of places to keep vehicles.
