I'm still not sure what Sookie is yet, but her blood seems to be the 'cure' for sunlight. That's why Sophie/Bill/Russel/Eric all want her. After Bill feasted on her, he was briefly immune to the effects of sunlight, although he did start to bake/smoke a little bit after being in it for a few minutes. But nothing like the immediate toasting that would normally occur. That's why Bill took the chance to run out in the sunlight to save Sookie from Renee at the end of season 1 and didn't immediately fry up, because he knew what she was the whole time.

This makes me think that while he may have originally been sent to Bon Temps to 'procure' Sookie, I think he really did fall in love with her as demonstrated by him killing his maker, Lorena, to save her. And Eric mentioned something about the only allegiance a vampire has is to his maker.

In regard to the fairy/nymph scene while Sookie was in a coma, I'm still not sure what that makes her. But they made it clear that vampires have hunted their kind before. When Bill showed up at the hospital, darkness fell in her dream. Vampires = evil, darkness. The nymph said, "Don't let him take your light." "Light" in this case being the ability to tolerate sunlight. Essentially, they want to harvest Sookie to experiment and eventually make them all Daywalkers.

^Not all vampires are necessarily evil though. Yeah, Bill might have a hidden agenda but there are some like Ed from Season 1 that are typically innocent.

I'm not saying they are all inherently evil... Just that they give off some kind of dark aura or something that other supernaturals pick up on.

I'd like to know more about Russell's history. Did it say somewhere that he was like 3000 years old? That would be right around the start of the Iron Age when the Greek empire was forming and coming to power.

^^i hope when I correct you don't take it negatively. I love this too (obviously) so I'm just trying to help. Keep thinking of possibilities! It's what I love to read most

^yeah when bill tried to stake him he laughed at bill's attempt saying, "I'm over 3000 years old!" (wiki says nearly 3000...shrug). And bc I love this way too much, I watched the comic con panel for TB and Dennis O'hare was saying that Alan Ball gave him some creative license when it came to history of Russell. He didn't get much in to what, but said he enjoyed doing the research and hitting Alan Ball with his ideas.

blood spewing out of lorena's mouth like a fountain: retarded
the slow-motion effect of the magister's head flying across the room: retarded

both of these things made me laugh out loud...which i do not think was the point...they were both unnecessary (they could have just made lorena explode in blood, or show the magister's head rolling across the ground) and were done so poorly that i couldn't help but sneer

yeah, they've really upped the gore/slaughter this season and most of it has been unnecessary and mediocre at best effects wise.

I've been digging the gore as well. Tara beatin that vamp's head in was pretty intense.

triple agree on the gore being just right. Magister's head splatting has been my favorite so far.

I, too, have not minded the gore at all...

Honestly I don't know how you could say that there's more gore than previous seasons... I mean, this is True Blood... Have you even been watching the show? It's always had a ton of gore!

I greatly beg to differ. i don't recall previous seasons being quite as frequent or "intense" with those types of effects.

And it's not that gore bothers me or that i mind it. I actually really enjoy well done special effects makeup of the sort. I'm just not impressed with the quality of a lot of what I've seen on this show this season. And I really don't think it's contributing much other than trying to entertain people with something other than the story-line itself, which some have complained about this season (particularly the first half).

There have been several scenes that made me laugh very hard because it just looked ridiculous. I DID like the guy's head splattering on the floor - mostly b/c i didn't expect it. But a lot of it just looks cheap and unrealistic imo.

And beyond not looking good, some of it isn't really necessary to help tell the story, that or it seems to be over the top for the sake of being over the top imo. There are movies and what not made that do just that, over the top gore and make-up effects really just for the sake of it. And the story almost serves for a opportunity for the effects more than the effects serve to help tell the story. There's nothing wrong with that imo. I watch those movies occasionally, but i usually expect better effects than story.

I felt the show used those types of effects to help tell the story in the past (and effectively). Now it seems more like the effects themselves are taking center-stage at times, which isn't necessary. And regardless of whether it's needed; it's one thing to do a good job with it and another to do a mostly so-so job with it. If most of them didn't look like complete shit and made a little more sense at times, I wouldn't mind at all.

lol, good point. but there's a point where a show goes from being somewhat lighthearted and even campy to just being ridiculous. At least for me there is.

So...can vampires die from decapitation or bludgeoning? I'd imagine that given enough time and a source of human blood they could recover.

i'm going with a yes on decapitation since his head sort of exploded like their bodies do when they die and Russell said something about giving him a true death.

I'm not so sure about the bludgeoning. Franklin's body didn't really do anything, where as something has happened to the bodies of all the other vampires who have been killed, i think. And in one of the scenes right after Tara "killed" Franklin, there was a part where Sookie said something like "this is what a dead vampire looks like" about Lorena. I took that to possibly be a hint that Franklin wasn't dead.

in the TB world, when a vampire is awake during the day they get "the bleeds"...and they can bleed from their ears or nose

i could really do without all the homo stuff that's shown... i mean no one wants to watch two guys making out. at the same time, they haven't had much lesbian action... wtf?

yeah, but even girls (that i know at least) don't enjoy seeing dudes make out. It's a double standard... Dudes like watching hot girls make out, but most girls don't get the same kick out of two dudes. Episode would've been just as good, (better IMO) without it. End scene was on point though.

Maybe we know different women. How many women reading this thread were grossed out by seeing two hot mostly naked dudes last night?

Maybe it's that women just aren't as into visual pornography as men (typically) but I doubt most women object to seeing gay dude porn more than hetero porn. Being at work I'm not even going to attempt to research this.

yeah..."I'm bored. Take off your clothes," was a big "thank you Talbot and TB writers!!" in my house last night

Male homosexual portrayal on TV or in movies does not bother me. I don't seek it out, but I'm not going to change the channel over it. If anything, there's much more lesbian action on film that it's refreshing a show would show as much male on male action as TB has this season.

i'm assuming he's going to hit the road immediately. And while Russell is faster, he doesn't have a link to Eric. Eric can be long gone before Russell returns.

Just watched the minisodes for the first time. Thought it was interesting that the post Eggs Jason breakdown showed a shifted warewolf who was just watching him. Would be interesting if they brought up that it was Crystal. Like she put herself there for him to find when he made his "bust".
