She's right. They did win. . . more congressional seats for the majority.

the question is not so much about gaining one or two single congressional seats, the question is how much the election has impacted the voting trends of the blue dogs.

but hey, sticking your head in the sand is always a winning strategy, so carry on.

Sure, the voting trends as it pertains to their state governor. Want to talk about voting trends? How about the GOP imploding in New York thus coughing up a district they've held since the Civil War.

That's a problem that can be fixed with primaries. If the GOP had supported the conservative candidate all from the start instead of some RINO, the democrat would've been trounced.

You're whistling past the 2010 democrat grave-yard my friend.

^^ i don't get the emphasis the media in general is putting on the governors. It's really bizarre.

NC has had a democratic governor for years, but we usually vote republican for the presidential election. A state's governors isn't that important when it comes to the presidency.

^^^ If you're alleging that from last november to this nov the country went from loving the democrats to hating the democrats, then what makes you think the country can't go back the other way by next novemeber?

And there was plenty more voting going on than 2 governors races, that don't really signal any overall momentum for the republicans.

The Daily Show had a good segement last night that reflected my thoughts... the media seems to be pushing this narrative to have something to talk about "whether it's true or not" (what a commentator on CNN said).

Again, I'm talking about the blue-dog LEGISLATORS... Nancy may have gained 2 votes and lost 30. Who knows? Maybe not, but this election does not portend 2010 - only possibly the healthcare vote.

Bwahahaha. You're falling into our trap.

Nate Silver, before the election:

Quote :
"The best-case scenario for the Democrats would seem to be a very narrow Owens win, which would leave conservatives feeling plenty empowered (and with plenty of people -- notably Scozzafava -- to blame) but would still give Democrats the seat in the Congress and leave them feeling less worried about the upside potential of conservative populism."

Fox's Martha MacCallum reported that:

Quote :
"“Robert Gibbs said, well, [Obama} was actually watching, you know, the HBO special about his year-long campaign and how it all went.”"

Oops!

Quote :
"Gibbs: One thing I should contextualize – the President obviously got updates about the election last night. He did not watch – as I told some of you – did not watch election returns. I wouldn’t read a ton into that since he didn’t actually watch election returns when he was running. If you did watch the movie on HBO – we called him and told him he won Iowa. He did not watch election returns."

1. No, they don't.

"[Obama} was actually watching, you know, the HBO special"

v.

"If you did watch the movie on HBO"

READING IS HARD

2. I forgot to mention that she was reporting that Obama was watching his documentary on election night, 2009

For Thrillers, Glenn Beck Is Becoming New Oprah
November 4, 2009

Quote :
"Virtually every novelist in America fantasizes about being picked to appear on Oprah Winfrey's talk show. But now an increasing number of writers have discovered a new champion: Glenn Beck, the outspoken media darling of populist conservatism

On his radio show and cable television programs, first on CNN Headline News and now on the Fox News Channel, Mr. Beck has enthusiastically endorsed dozens of novelists, a majority of them writing in the thriller genre. Mr. Beck, who now attracts 9 million weekly listeners on radio and 2.7 million daily viewers on television, often selects authors whose plots or characters reflect political stances that mirror his own. But he also promotes the work of authors who may disagree with many of his views.

'He's our Oprah,' said Brad Thor, a writer of political thrillers who has appeared on Mr. Beck's radio and television programs several times. 'God love him, we're very fortunate.'

At a time when the book industry is struggling to maintain, much less increase, sales, publishers and authors say an appearance on Mr. Beck's television or radio programs helps attract new readers. After James Rollins, the author of 'The Doomsday Key,' a thriller about a group of Defense Department scientists trying to solve an ancient mystery, appeared this past summer on Mr. Beck's radio program and then his television show — on which Mr. Beck promised viewers 'it will keep you on the edge of your seat' — Mr. Rollins met several people at a book signing who told him they had bought the book based on that recommendation, he said.

According to Seale Ballenger, a publicist for William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins that released 'The Doomsday Key,' the novel remained in the Top 10 of the New York Times hardcover fiction best-seller list longer than typical for its type. 'It was totally driven by Glenn Beck,' Mr. Ballenger said.

In the past five years Mr. Beck, who was a best-selling novelist with 'A Christmas Sweater' last year, has interviewed about 40 thriller writers, including David Baldacci, Nelson DeMille and James Patterson, on his radio program, his cable television shows or both."

Quote :
"'I don't think there's anybody else on TV that is either that eager or open to booking novelists,' said David Brown, deputy director for publicity at Atria, an imprint of Simon & Schuster that publishes Mr. Thor and Vince Flynn, another thriller writer who has appeared frequently on Mr. Beck's programs."

You can also catching him at 2am if you're up. But, sadly, he's on the same time Rachel Maddow so I only flip over to see what he is ranting about on his little blackboard during commercial breaks. As forgettable as it was, Faux News attempted a counter to the Daily Show with their own conservative comedy show. Even though it failed miserably it seems they succeeded in bringing the funny through crazy with Beck.

Glenn Beck is absolutely an open, festering sore, who, arguably, ought to be shot to quell his influence on the undereducated, alarmist, xenophobes in the United States.

but I can't say I don't tune in when I catch him on TV.

So I just added a high school friend on facebook, she lists bill'o and beck as her favorite tv shows. I mentioned that I didn't think we had similar tastes in television, and she replies with "That's cool, I figured. Many young Americans have that same attitude because of what's been fed to them."

How do I respond to this?

Yeah, Rush's 12:00 timeslot and Beck's 5:00 timeslot cause me to question how hard-working their listeners are.

I read somewhere the that average Rush listener is like >60 years old, iirc. That might account for most of it.

my dad.

>60

lost his job due to corporate shenanigans

couldnt get another job due to age discrimination

lost ~1/3 his retirement savings due to Wall Street stock market shenanigans.

now collects reduced social security and sits at home all day in his forced retirement watching Fox News and listening to angry conservatives on AM radio so he can justify his hate for and tax-and-spend liberals and other assorted Obama-Socialists who he believes are ruining the country.

it makes my stomach hurt to think about it.

^ Well, damn. Since you done gone and put the guilt trip on me, I went back 16 pages and found it for you:

Quote :
"I'm not a big Beck fan--too hyper and too goofy and too much with the conspiracy theories for me--BUT. . .

Glenn Beck Tops Two Best Seller Lists; Hits Trifecta of NY Times Lists

I do, however, think that Beck often raises important issues that need to be investigated and that other media fail to pursue or even notice. And I'll add this from page 22 for further illumination:

Quote :
"Special Report--specifically the segment known as 'The Grapevine'--is where I get a lot of my info. And from frequent panelist Charles Krauthammer."

yes, just a difference of views. No difference in their demeanor or how they treat their guests, the type of stories they choose to cover, the threshold of evidence they require to report a story, the unfounded accusations they make, their unstated insinuations, etc. All exactly the same...
