OK, I really like the new Avett Bros album now.
9/2/2009 9:57:59 AM
^ It's pretty good for a Ben Folds Five album.
9/2/2009 11:42:57 AM
That's funny, I thought the same thing (about Ben Folds) in parts. Also heard a little bit of Violent Femmes maybe. But while this CD sometimes gets a little same-y (and also a little too pop in parts), there aren't the usual 3-4 tracks that I can't stand as with most other Avett albums. It is definitely growing on me a lot. Based on what I'd heard (from the EP and a few live performances), I was really worried about this release. Glad I was wrong.[Edited on September 2, 2009 at 1:16 PM. Reason : d]

I have a couple of friends who are completely bonkers about the Avetts, and for years have been telling me how awesome they are and the new record is something I'll love (every time) and whatever.I keep hearing about how the Avetts are a cool combination of country, bluegrass, and the weird/noisy rock energy that I enjoy in so much music that I love.So I listen to the Avetts, and I never hear that, but I do hear it when I listen to Gather, Form & Fly. That's what I meant by beating them to the punch.
9/2/2009 4:21:44 PM
^ No, I knew exactly what you meant. In fact, when people who do not know Megafaun have asked me what they sound like, I normally respond with, "similar style to Avett brothers, but better" or "how the Avett Brothers are supposed to sound" for the same reasons you mentioned above.I have always found their material hit or miss, but I felt this album was exceptionally bad on my first few listens. (of course, I also have a tendency to need some time with an album, this one just left me with very little desire to return to it).I also wonder whether their apparent desire to be as prolific as Ryan Adams has hurt them as well. All that time and energy wasted on marginal EP's with one or two songs, etc.At least Avett Brothers' fans will have the Rick Rubin excuse to fall back on...[Edited on September 2, 2009 at 4:29 PM. I have never been able to get into TAB. Last winter tuesday nights was "firepit night" for me and friends for like 3 months and they listened to TAB almost every tuesday for the few hours we were there. It wasn't something I hated by any means, I certainly didn't mind it in the setting, but even after all that, it was never something I considered buying. /shrugI know plenty of people who are nuts for them tho.

Does the Beatles Re-release fit in this thread? Kinda dissapointed. I don't know what I was expecting, but the stereo is pointless.
9/5/2009 2:46:56 AM
Making mono shit stereo rarely works out well.See: Pet Sounds, stereo mix.
9/5/2009 3:45:30 AM
The new Arctic Monkeys is pretty boss, I like how dark and brooding they've become
9/6/2009 8:29:11 AM
http://www.myspace.com/neonbordeauxthebandclicked it, reiterated how exhausting the whole bleep bloop thing has gottengo away, 2007.lol @ the band name.Toro Y Moi is pretty good, though.[Edited on September 6, 2009 at 10:37 AM. Reason : dfasdfs]

^ ha well i can understand because I "wrote" all those bleep bloop songs. I found a copy of fruity loops version 3 in a pile of my shit and been driving everyone I live with nuts for the last 2 weeks. Its more fun to make than listen to. on the serious end Toro Y Moi is one of the only decent things ive heard come out of Columbia, SC.

Ray Lamontagne is awesome...please don't put him under bitch music...especially with Jack Johnson...his music is way more deep than that crud. What Jay-z said (referring to his quote when he went to the Grizzly Bear concert) reminded me of Busdriver and his new album Jhelli Beam....it's definitely a different kind of rap.hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?zfmmyenmtof[Edited on September 7, 2009 at 4:19 PM. I saw them open for Okkervil River in Wilmington, and they were pretty awesome. I had never heard of them before then. Gonna have to check out that album.
9/7/2009 7:34:39 PM
I, too, saw them open for that show, and I, too, enjoyed it.
9/8/2009 1:05:16 AM
Diving into the Beatles stuff now...the mono mixes of the early stuff sound ten times better than the stereo mixes.

9/8/2009 10:16:52 AM
lol triple postI don't know how many of you enjoy the slower acoustic/folk genre, but for those that do the new Gregory Alan Isakov is very good. Album is called This Empty Northern Hemisphere
