hold up so is it the caffeine thats he problem and not the artificial sweeteners? dammit i love my coffee in the morning but now that its getting warmer i should be able to cut out the coffee on the way to work, may substitute it with green tea. i've been trying to do that more anyway.

It was def a bitch for me to cut it out too. I def know I am more sensitive to insulin resistance because I am type I diabetic but it has been the case for some that are not diabetics. Grain of salt here, sparky.
I was just saying about the diet soft drinks with caffeine because that is def something people think they can have as much of and be ok. I don't know if one cup of coffee a day will do it but I know this phenomenon does exist.] 3/22/2011 9:49:23 PM |

I, too, have read a while back that caffeine was speculated to promote a cortisol response and lead to bodyfat storage.
I didn't know that it had ever been confirmed, and I'd never heard the part about the insulin and stuff. Wouldn't promoting higher blood insulin levels lead to lower fat storage, though?
I probably should cut back on caffeine. It doesn't do a lot to me (never has--not just because I have a tolerance for it), so I have to intake a lot of it if I want any stimulant effect. 3/22/2011 10:06:44 PM |

I do know when your body increases insulin production, your body immediately starts a fight or flight type of situation that causes you to then eat eat eat to compensate for that tremendous imbalance or triggers your brain to say STORE WHATEVER! Higher blood sugar does cause ketoacidosis to occur and then cause your body to start basically eating itself in survival mode. I, again, def say this as a diabetic so this happens more readily with people like me than normal insulin producing people. That is why I am TOTALLY against the atkins diet because it often throws normal insulin producing people into this situation.
I just know people who are prone to weight gain or even obesity will deal more with this than people who are healthy exercise and diet type of people. That is why it is def not true for everyone.
Also, my neurologist was saying that my TIA episode that I had a few weeks ago could have been triggered by the overuse of caffeine...but who knows. Vessel constriction and whatnot] 3/22/2011 10:13:49 PM |

i only drink like 2 caffeinated drinks a day (usually diet cokes)....with a few exceptions (ie i had a monster yesterday and today and probably will have one tomorrow to help jack me up to study)......
so this wont be too hard
im wondering if i should even worry considering my caffeine intake is usually less than 150ish mg/day 3/22/2011 10:14:04 PM |

yeah, thats what ive heard too.
ive actually read in some studies (yeah, it was more than one! ) that certain caffeine intakes (i cant remember the number like 200ish?) is actually beneficial to health rather than no intake at all.
i'll see if i can find it sometime this weekend (if anyone is interested) 3/22/2011 10:29:06 PM |

this is interesting because a lot of your pre-workout supplements are loaded with caffeine. regardless i didn't have my usual morning coffee today, instead i had a cup of green tea. i'm thinking this is a much healthier route regardless of caffeine.3/23/2011 8:30:16 AM |

My friend eats a sandwich with that bread every day and always buys it when we take trips to TJ's together. I'd never thought about it because I don't eat bread much at all, but then she started talking about the nutritional profile of it and that it's actually good and ever since I have been pretty excited to try it. I think that makes me a dork. But it's nice to hear another recommendation for it.
After my departure from LFF I am gym whoring it up for a bit. I got a week's pass at Gold's Gym in RTP starting today. I think I pissed the woman off last night because she was trying to sell me on "We have 3 times more machines than other gyms!" and I told her I don't use machines and was otherwise unimpressed with the shiny whoozywhatsits they try to talk up. Then I have a month at Fitness 19. I think those are the best options for me, but if there are any more I will try those too. Then I decide which one I like better. It felt really good to lift again this morning as I've been out of the gym for almost two weeks (still doing cardio and some at-home stuff).

I gotta say, I realize that most everyone in this thread is more about perfecting an already in-shape body, but for those of us who have to lose a lot of weight before even worrying about the cuts in all the right places, it's amazingly satisfying to have people look at you and say "... You've lost weight."
It's happened four times in the past week. I gotta take pictures soon and see before / after.
I do know I'm about 15.5 lbs down. 3/23/2011 12:45:51 PM |

ok so no explosive rhee rhee before work out, but post workout and protein shake you have explosive rhee for the rest of the day. what do you mix you shake with, water, milk? have you tried working out and not drinking the shake afterward to see if you have the same issue? maybe they changed the formula. 3/23/2011 4:49:59 PM |

I do wish I was seeing more progress than what I'm seeing, however, admittedly my first 2 months of working out my diet was shit, so I was kinda working against myself.
In the past month though, the diet has gotten a lot better, and improvement is happening. I just have to remind myself that I didn't put it all on overnight, Rome wasn't built in a day, etc, etc. I'm definitely stronger than what I was, more fit, and my endurance is increasing. I just hope that I'm doing everything right so that I have that good "beach body" for this summer. Not much time left until the summer is here! 3/23/2011 9:19:14 PM |

I decided this week that I'm tired of being a fattie and want to take significant changes to drop back down to a healthy size. I started the South Beach diet Monday. So far it sucks but I haven't cheated... yet I also found out there's a free gym in my office building so I need to start taking advantage of that on my lunch break.
Has anyone else ever tried the South Beach diet? 3/23/2011 9:41:47 PM |

My weight is all over the place. Who gains 7 pounds in 2 days and then it doesn't go away? I'm trying really hard to remain sulfite-free but it's tough. I feel better today although my hands were swollen this morning.

No headaches but I had a general blasé feeling yesterday. Today was a little easier. I need to be better about planning meals ahead so I'm not on my lunch break and going, "Well damn, where am I going to eat today?" Luckily Harris Teeter had some of those Atkin bars on sale today so I got some of those to stash in my desk when I start feeling cranky. 3/23/2011 11:03:57 PM |

^^ that's really good you don't have any headaches. It'll get better. Just make sure you're taking in enough fiber. I know a lot of people end up having issues on no/low carb diets because they end up losing out on a lot of fiber in their diet.

I am currently cycling my calories, strength training and intermittent fasting. I am down about 15lbs in 3 weeks. No major loss in strength or well being. Body fat% is probably down from 15% to 12%, but this is a rough estimation.
On training days, I eat high carb and protein. Eating my largest meal post-workout. I focus on heavy lifting only. No cardio at all.
On non-training days, I fast until mid-early afternoon and have minimal carbs the rest of the day. It usually turns out to 2 meals, both pretty sizable. For example, I broke the fast with 4 fried eggs, 4 slices bacon. For dinner, 2 chicken breasts and vege's.
Supplementing with: Fat burner pills (helps control appetite and maintains energy levels) whey protein creatine vitamin d and calcium 3/24/2011 9:59:51 PM |
