Because I have nothing better to do tonight, I'm reading through the list of all the things my health insurance won't cover. One of the things listed is "llama therapy." That's a new one to me

8 months after dad died... mom is dating

8 months is a pretty significant portion of time, and I'm sure it's not easy on her to jump back into the dating scene. But maybe it's what she needs to do, to stop grieving. A good portion of widows/widowers are remarried by the 2 year mark.

I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear, and I know nothing about your parents, but I don't think I'd fault my parents for moving on after the other had died.

I think that it is easy to say that when you haven't lost a parent.

My mother is on her third marriage. She lost her first two husbands prematurely. My older 1/2 brother never forgave her for starting to date my father before a year had even gone by and I also had a difficult time with my mother moving on after my father died.

In a nutshell, I feel your pain sumfoo.

she's dating an acquaintance of my dads that i've always thought was a douche bag.

i know it's selfish of me so i'm keeping my mouth shut.
i'm not gonna be a brat.

I mean i may give him the typical father/daughter speech "you fuck with my mom i'll be your worst nightmare" kinda thing. but i doubt it.

I haven't lost a parent, but I have lost a grandparent. And my Dad was thrilled when my Grandmother moved on and started dating. The idea of someone living the rest of their life alone just makes me sad.

I know it's not the same, but I just don't see how anyone would want their parent to be lonely. I can't imagine losing my husband. But I also couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life alone if he died.

I am sorry for your loss, but the bitterness can't help anything.

^See that changes everything. If he's a douchebag, then I'd be pretty pissed too.

I don't know why and it probably isn't rational, but I just don't look at elderly people dating right away in the same way that I look younger people. Maybe it's because of the percentage of time that they have left. . .I don't know, it probably isn't rational. And I don't think that 8 months is very long. That's less than the amount of time it takes to carry a baby full term. It's the blink of an eye. I lost my grandmother 11 months ago and the grief is still somewhat fresh.

I have y'all beat. My grandmother remarried six months after my step-grandfather was murdered, while the trial was going on and with the prosecutor begging her to wait until the trial was done so it couldn't somehow be used in court by the defense. Everyone in my family was like wtf to that whole thing.

That's harsh. You definitely have me beat.

My older brother was 14 when his father was died at home in a horseback riding accident. My mother started dating my father, who was ten years younger than her and less than ten years older than my brother, in less than a year.

Depends on how long you'll be gone. If you're gone long enough, it makes sense to have someone bring in the mail, water plants, and check on things. More than one person has been really f'in screwed by something like a major pipe leaking for a weak while on vacay.

the wife is having a very girly night, the second half being at our house, meaning I should probably make myself scarce. I'm good until 830ish or so, but what to do after... hmmmm
