That's why the women in my family carry around a set of scientific weights from 1 gram to 10 kilos so that they can always maintain the same amount of pressure on the floor. 5/22/2012 3:40:22 PM |

typically your family cares about you and wants teh best for you, whether or not you liek it they're trying to nudge you in the right direction
I can understand it if it was something like "hey look, theres my fatass daughter meg, whats going on miss piggy"
but more than likely it was something like "it looks like youre gaining weight meg, are you still working out?" 5/22/2012 3:44:08 PM |

I'd see it as sensitive if this just happened every now and again...but my mother used to say some mean ass shit about my weight when I was younger
now she makes jabs every now and again so I just shut her up really quick

there is a difference though.
a.) Meg is absolutely not fat
b.) if the person they are speaking to has been approximately that size most of their life/ and or it's a healthy weight range.... I think it is none of their business 5/22/2012 3:45:13 PM |

but talking about or to someone who has gained a little weight like they are morbidly obese is pretty difficult coming from people who should be on your side.

i am overreacting. i need to hate myself less and get back into my routine. but being reminded about it several times a day the past few days has been unnecessary.

I am not as much of a people pleaser to a fault as I used to be in a lot of ways, but I have recently realized I tend to feel the need to explain myself to other people when it isn't necessary because of the feeling that I have done something wrong. 5/22/2012 6:24:56 PM |

Yeah. I just ordered something and the guy I was ordering it from messed up a dimension (after getting it correct the first time he said it). I didn't notice the second mistake so he was working off that one, and we had a few back-and-forths on the confusion before we got it straightened out. Then I felt the need to tell him why I had been confused, when there's no reason I should have done that. 5/22/2012 6:29:34 PM |

Yeah, I've noticed myself doing it in very minor instances also. Had to switch vehicles the other day while mine was being worked on leaving my employee badge in my car. Got to work and gave the HR dept like a 2-3 minute explanation of what happeneds so I wouldn't get in trouble for "forgetting" my badge. *sigh*
Also, that Cheetos commerical where the construction workers are dancing in the framework of a house while the cheetah stands watching is HILARIOUS to me for some weird reason.

Swinkle - just picked up a new habit last year. When I catch myself wanting to over explain and people are busy, I give them the first half of it. Two things happen: they fill in the rest of the story themselves, and then they believe it better and we move on faster. 5/22/2012 7:35:02 PM |
