Quote :
"Two schools on top for Brice Johnson

By Jeff Borzello

It’s been an interesting few months for Brice Johnson and his recruitment.

He missed a chance to boost his stock at the NBPA Top 100 camp in June when he suffered a concussion early in the event and had to sit out the rest of the event. But he certainly bounced back at the Peach Jam in July, dominating every opponent in front of college coaches from across the country. Averaging 4.2 blocks per game and shooting nearly 82 percent from the field spurred one high-major head coach to call him a future lottery pick.

Johnson went from a player who might have been leaning towards staying in-state and going to Clemson or South Carolina to one with offers from North Carolina, Ohio State, Connecticut and Florida.

So far, the 6-foot-9 power forward from Edisto (S.C.) has taken official visits to North Carolina State, North Carolina and Florida, with one to Clemson still on the way.

A pair of schools is standing out: North Carolina State and Florida.

“They are the top two,” Johnson said.

We will soon find out where the No. 29 prospect in the country will end up, as Johnson plans to make a decision soon.

“Sometime this month,” he said.

i agree he definitely is... but it's so blatant you have to think he checked with the NCAA to make sure it isn't a violation???

i mean absolutely nothing is being hidden about what he does... do we think there is a possibility he could be that stupid? or careless?

According to Rivals, Providence's backcourt is more highly ranked (#8 SG and #10 PG) than NC State's (#6 and #55 PGs). And UCLA has the #2 and #52 PGs.

Unless he's getting paid, what he is doing is no different than any other ncsu grad or college grad for that matter using twitter to convince someone to come to their school. If NCAA is going to penalize on that, they will have to expand enforcement by 10000%

yeah i would be shocked if the NCAA has an enforcement policy on former players using Twitter to encourage recruits

might seem shady, but he's been doing it long enough that if there was an issue, i'm sure it would have been handled by now

Haven't there been times when former UNC players had contact with recruits and people asked about it. Wasn't it just deemed ok because of their standing with the university?

I'm sure Debbie has compliance staff that monitor him. He hosted the Red Rally last year. He's in close enough contact with the athletics dept that they're not gonna let him fuck it up before Gottfried even gets started.

I think other users nailed it already. No name, no problem. And as long as he's not providing benefits, it's free speech.

THE JULES OF HARLEM

Until Hodge is an employed staff member of NC State University, I don't see how it is a violation. Former players all over the country encourage recruits to come to their schools. They shouldn't be allowed to play in summer leagues with them if the NCAA doesn't want them advising them on where to go.

V beat them head to head for a handful of recruits in the 80's. (Not many though)

There really is no evidence to back this up except word of mouth. Have heard guys like Walker Lambiotte (transferred to Northwestern), Chucky Brown, and Rodney Monroe. (UNC favored King Rice over Corchianni, who was also a McD's AA)

UNC also wanted Lowe and Whit, (Norm Sloan recruits). And you'll get debates over Washburn, (they accepted fellow McD's AA Kevin Maddon that same year who had an equal if not worse SAT score, 500?) and Charles Shackleford.

@Ernie Again the part you are not getting is the recruits names were mentioned directly. "John Wall PLEASE come to NC STATE! Also according to the article it was more of a concern with people directly contacting the recruit.
Quote :
"communication via message boards, chat rooms, walls, comments, blogs, IM, etc. is not permissible."
Construing a random tweet in which no names were mentioned as a communication with a recruit is a pretty big stretch. I think our compliance staff is very aware of Hodge and is more than capable of dealing with any concerns without help from the TWW tweet police.

guys, the concept of a loophole is not a foreign one to anybody. you don't have to explain the same technicality over and over.

the point is: julius hodge is sitting squarely in a loophole, knowingly murdering the spirit of the law. sometimes people get upset when you do this to their rules.

I'm sure he isn't aware that it's a fine line. So TWW drawing attention to it is sure to help the situation. Maybe someone should start a thread on PP, or better yet, on IC.

I didn't say this was a violation

I asked where I can put money down on when he commits a violation

This is a pretty specious argument. Have all the faith you want in the compliance department, but if that faith were 100% justified, no recruiting violations would ever occur at any school.

I'll never understand why message board dudes get all up in arms when you legitimately criticize one of their boyz. Tweet police? Come the fuck on. Hodge is treading dangerously -- I'm not trying to stop him or call attention to it, I'm just having some laughs because it's so blatant.

Quote :

Ah, yes. We should just sweep these things under the rug. Good things always come from that. People acting stupidly deserve to be recognized as stupid.

In a game like recruiting if you aren't exploiting the loopholes you aren't doing it correctly.

Quote :
" For potential violations?!"

More like non-existent violations.

Quote :
"Come the fuck on. Hodge is treading dangerously -- I'm not trying to stop him or call attention to it, I'm just having some laughs because it's so blatant.

Actually given the information he is doing exactly as he should. He is exploiting loopholes. Also just in case you forgot if this were close to a violation it would likely be an extremely minor secondary violation that wouldn't fucking matter.

So in summation, we have the tweet police getting their panties in a wad over the fact that a past player isn't committing an extremely minor secondary violation. Glad I could clear that up for you.
