Tww experts - I live on the 3rd floor and set the AC to 69 yet it remains almost 80 in here. I'm being told that is just how it is when you live on the 3rd floor and it is hot as balls outside. Opinions? If someone tells me "hot air rises" one more time I am going to shit in your breakfast.

Oh for fucks sake, you're a University. You may want to proofread and/or hire people that understand basic fucking english.

This official letter I received in the mail says, "We cannot except a paper copy."

i know 80 sux, Meg, but they aren't going to freak out over that. 69 is a low temperature to try and achieve, especially with this kind of heat right now. The AC is trying to move heat from inside your place to outside, and there is just so much heat outside that the AC can't keep up.

Trying to maintain a 30 degree difference like that is damned near impossible with the kind of units your place probably has.

I would suggest that, if you can, you close off rooms you don't need, maybe even close the vents in those rooms, and just deal with it. Get some fans and get some circulation. Put the AC on 76 and just enjoy it.

i won't accept that this unit is not capable of working like every other ac unit i've lived with in my life until someone who works here just mans up and tells me it's a piece of crap and can't work the way i want it to.

I've got a single story house and can only get it down to 78. you're gonna have to have a super-pricey unit in order to get a -30 degree difference in inside and outside temperatures.

you've probably not had an AC unit this shitty before, then. Yell at them to come check the refrigerant level, but that's about all they can really do. It's 100 fuckin degrees outside. Your unit probably hasn't even shut off at this point.

seriously, it's not unreasonable for them to come check the refrigerant and make sure it's at the right pressure. if they are telling you to piss off, then check your lease for your options with regard to maintenance requests. Them telling you to piss off probably isn't allowed.

ok. about the only other thing I can think of then is to see what the temperature of the air coming out of the vents is. It should be about 15-20F lower than the air going back to the unit. If that's the case, then your unit is pretty much maxed out, and this is the best you are gonna get.

I've read that the IR-guns are quite worthless for this, so if you know anyone with a thermometer that reads down to 50, then go get it. They are like 10-15 bux at Lowes

if you can find out how many tons your unit is rated for, that would help someone on here more knowledgeable than me. It would also help to know the sqft of your place. Also, what's the building materials? Is it brick? If so, you might as well give up. I doubt your place put too much thought into insulation.

I was just at my neighbor's pool and we were chatting about the weather (like everyone else). We both live in ~2,000 sq ft ranch homes that are older, but well maintained. They have brand new duct work and our house had central air put in less than 10 years ago. With the units running nonstop, neither of us are able to get our houses below 78 degrees during the day when it's 100 degrees outside.

my house is a 1600sf brick ranch built in 1964. i have a new but cheap gas pack, this is our first summer with it. it will cool the house to about 74-75 during the day when it's 100+ out, and seems to take a lonnnnnggggg time to cool it down overnight. idk if it's actually reaching the temp i set it to overnight since i'm not up watching the thermostat & the unit is on the opposite side of the house so i don't hear it running. it is set to cool down to 67 overnight.
