Wouldn't it depend somewhat on if they were fired or laid off? When people here have gotten laid off, they were allowed to say goodbye, pack up their stuff, whatever. Fired ... not so much.

nowadays? no. But it used to be dinner was the biggest meal of the day and it was held more around lunch time, and supper was the "late" meal, and could be a new meal, but could also be leftovers

tl;dr: People around me young and old are dying, this makes me sad. Also, kitty.

In other news, seriously depressed. I don't handle death well. In the half a year, I've gone through 4 deaths, three very intimate, one less so.
Two weeks ago today, a friend of mine was killed when biking with her father in Okotoks, Alberta. She was a rising junior in Mechanical Engineering, and I unfortunately only got to know her really well towards the end of the semester. I found out about it Thursday evening (July 5th, she was hit by a truck July 4th), it hit local papers around here on Sunday I believe, in case anyone heard about it.
And then, while I was at work today, and still struggling with Rebecca's death (my coworker's have noticed that I'm not quite so cheery as I usually am), I get an email from my mother saying that my great uncle passed away.
Fortunately, my meeting with the general manager of our division on a presentation I'm giving to the president of the company was postponed because of his busy schedule (and my getting the project done earlier than anticipated), so I didn't have to maintain composure too much, and I could hide behind my computer screen or on the production floor and not make eye contact with any of the works (who, granted, all seem to like me).
So yeah, I'm really depressed right now. Too much death and dying and sickness. And my uncle was back in the hospital today again.
