Oh, wow, DDK. That looks great. The color is really nice. And styling will take no time.

Skwinkle, there's a woman on pinterest who has some great hair tutorials. Here's a cool one for an elegant updo. Looks pretty easy! http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2011/09/chic-updo.html

I like both of those looks. I will have to try a few things this week and see if I can actually do it. I honestly have never been able to style my hair to not look like crap. And I def need a video tutorial to stand a chance

if you want to do a french braid, i suggest practicing first. it's not really hard but you don't want to do it your first time on the day of the big event either. just a tip! your hair is def long enough that it shouldn't take you long to be able to figure it out

also, bohemian twists are SUPER easy and if you take your time to do it and use a little smoother it will look classy (which is also true of french braiding). both styles can be casual or formal it just depends.

here's a bohemian twist tutorial. if you really can't do hair i suggest this rather than a french.

Hmm I kinda like that too. I will definitely have to practice to see what I like best. I have done French braids a few times that look decent-ish but not formal quality. Perhaps I can get another guy's gf to help me a little bit if I need it too. Thanks, ladies

i did that hairstyle for a wedding I was guest of (for practice) and piddlebug's wedding. It is fairly easy, but with my super long hair there was a lot to tuck in to the messy bun part.

Also, the top tuck didn't work well for me..so I did a partial and left my bangs more loose. It helped to have someone come behind me and pun in all the flyaways and pieces thzt didn't tuck properly first go round. I can post up photos in a bit, but, my fb profile shot has my hair up that way.

My tip is to have a shit ton of bobbypins

I have yet to own a pair of stylish boots for winter. Just never bothered to get any, they are not my top choice of shoe. But I tried these on at Target and love them - they were surprisingly comfortable! Don't know if I want grey or brown though! I'm thinking brown. Grey would be good to match for stuff I may wear to work, but I want a dark grey. And they fit my calves.

also, only $35. Nice price for a first-time 'trial run' purchase.

I bought this blazer in purple at J Crew today. On sale for $125

it looks sooooo good! Actually the grey one looks fabulous and now I want it too! The second one (in black) looked even BETTER, but it was $225. So it didn't look $100 worth of better!!

Love the second blazer

they had one a few years back in a yellow and instead of grey it was orange I think

I just know I almost cried I couldn't buy it (they don't make those things for large boobs)

Ladies,

I need a cute fall dress and preferably bright colored suede pumps for my engagement party next month.

Any ideas? I'm very petite so anything fitted helps.

awhile later , but here's how my attempt at the updo from above turned out when I first did it.

actually...this was my first attempt at doing an updo aside from a ponytail or bun by myself ever...so for that I was pretty proud of myself

egyeyes check out Ann Taylor. I've been poking around on their website and they have some really great dresses and tops/skirt combos that are super fall-ish. Plus they carry petite sizes so you have options if the regular size is too large.

Also, the Ann Taylor concept store is opening this coming up week at South Point. It might be worth checking that out as well

Oooh! Beautiful updo, LK.

As for a great dress for petite folks, maybe bcbg? Their dresses are so elegant. Or French Connection? Haven't shopped there, but I hear they're great for petite gals.

bcbg...elegant?

WAT

they are cut small, so that's a good recommendation

a line I noticed at Saks that is always super small is Phoebe Couture...and the dresses are fun (especially if you're wanting some bright suede heels to go with it)

Yeah! Their short stuff is a bit hoochy for my taste ... the anti-thesis of elegant. But they have some gorgeous long gowns that are very Grace Kelly-esque. They'll set you back several hundred bucks, but the flow of the fabric is beautiful, IMO.

Also, if you're short enough, some of the shorter dresses won't be hoochy at all. I love this one:

http://www.bcbg.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12139568&cp=4213681.2769162.2768993&view=all&parentPage=family

And I actually really wanna buy this one:

http://www.bcbg.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12139518&cp=4213681.2769162.2768993&view=all&parentPage=family

No need for more dresses tho.

Oh, also, Ann Taylor does have beautiful dresses, but it may be difficult to find a small enough size. Their sizes are confusing and a bit inconsistent at times. They run about the same size as White House Black Market.

Well you gotta specify which line from BCBG you're talking about

MaxAzria isn't as hoochie as plain BCBG
MaxAzriaRunway is super cute
Generation is a great contemporary line for 20s to early 30s gals

(sometimes I think I know too much )

And yes...the long dresses are way different in all the lines...way classier

Yeah, I should have clarified about the longer gowns. This time of year, long gowns are fun to wear because it gets dark so early and the extra fabric keeps you warmer.

I love the flow of their long gowns.

BCBGeneration items are very cute and the price is just right ... prob not quite appropriate for this event tho.

Haven't tried on anything from the Runway line, but it def looks very nice.

I live in maxi dresses. The bf thinks they're cute. I think they're comfier than PJs. Win-win.

And luckily you can wear them in FL year-round.

Love the sweetheart neckline. You should have held onto that ... that's the kind of dress you can pass down to your daughter or niece, even if you never wear it again.

I wanna see. Post it! Or email me.

I've been tempted to sell some of my gowns and cocktail dresses, but there's this silly voice in the back of my head that tells me to hold on to them for a female cousin or niece. Which is kind of silly, considering styles change and Betsey Johnson (of which I have WAY too much ... it's a bit age-inappropriate now) is very much an acquired taste.

^^ Don't fall for their email marketing! Their sweaters look cute, but I'm usually disappointed at the quality. Except for those long, wrap sweaters. Love those!

^ Hush, woman! I'm sure you're looking good these days. Half-marathon is coming up soon!

And yeah, I'll hold on to the dresses til I can give them to a family member or until I run out of storage space. Most of them don't really fit right now, so I'll have to have them re-tailored so they fit again.

Though some are very age-inappropriate now. Betsey Johnson dresses can look more high school prom than charity cocktail event.

I'm in search of some good sweater dresses that don't make me look like a cow. I don't like the really thick ones, because they're just too warm.

Honestly, this will sound retarded, but if you were looking at VS, consider Forever 21 for sweater dresses instead. I typically don't care for the store, but when it comes to thin, trendy clothes for layering, that's a good place to start. They won't hold up particularly well ... but VS clothes aren't particularly well-constructed, at least in my experience. So you'll save money for similar quality.

However, if you don't mind shelling out a little bit more, Banana Republic has some pretty and thin sweater dresses right now. They'll hold up much better than the options listed above.

haha for real forever 21 stuff lasts about 5 wears and then it's trash. so unless it's 5 dollars or less i don't buy it

i do however stock up like whoa on their camis because they're like 3 bucks and they're long. which I like.

Yeah, it's about as high quality as VS clothing. My VS stuff always falls apart after a couple of wears. The seams unravel. Small holes appear. Might as well just shop at Forever 21 for the value. That said, I do have a couple of Forever 21 sundresses that were under $5 on a bargain rack. And they've lasted for freaking ever. So it's not bad for trying out a new trend on the uber cheap.

i was in Vegas two weeks ago and my girlfriend and i went to the Fashion Show Mall. apparently, that mall is home to the largest Forever 21 on the planet.

i had never even heard of the store, but my gf raved about them - and i found all sorts of great stuff in there for super cheap. unfortunately, everything i found that i liked seemed so cheaply made that i wondered if i'd even be able to wear it more than a couple times. so i didn't buy anything.

up until then, i thought Old Navy had the cheapest clothing around.
