I'm not worried yet about players saying shit like that.
Hopefully once they sit down with Yow, whatever coach we hire, and their parents...they'll realize it's a bad idea to waste a year sitting out at a major university and suck it up and try to accomplish something at the school they committed to.
I'm not going to get mad at them for leaving, but I just hope they give it some thought and at least give the new coach a shot at giving them a sales pitch. 3/8/2011 6:34:02 PM |

my bad. you didn't.
I don't really see where that tweet is saying anything too explicit about leaving. Also WTF is the ACC tournament already over or is Harrow just checking out for the duration. Pretty suspect. On a related subject has anyone else heard the rumors floating around about Lowe being retained in the basketball department in a different position?3/9/2011 9:50:38 AM |

I really like Harrow and hope he stays around, it is the best thing for him. He's not NBA material, at least not right now, and he can't really afford to sit the bench somewhere else, his game is too inconsistent, he needs to play to improve. 3/9/2011 10:15:57 AM |

I have not heard that, but I'd love it if we could do something like that. I just don't see him being willing to do it. He's still in the prime of his career, and will have no problems getting picked up as an NBA assistant. 3/9/2011 10:16:58 AM |

Yeah, I don't think ANYONE could have handled the pressure put on him better than he has.
I have not hear a single sentence out of him that wasn't positive. In terms of his public commentary, he makes Roy and K seem like whiny crybabies. The dude should be given a doctorate degree in "Rising Above Bullshit" 3/9/2011 10:42:54 AM |

I hope the guys realize the opportunity they have. If they're thinking about their future, which is the NBA, they'll take everything into consideration.
Look at both Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins at Georgia. Both were highly touted prospects from the greater-Atlanta area. Both were freshmen two years ago when their coach was fired mid-season. They could have left before their sophomore year, but they didn't.
Fast forward to today and they're finishing up a 20-win season in their junior years and the best Georgia has been since their miracle run in '08. Now they're both being projected to get drafted in June. 3/9/2011 10:46:19 AM |

I'd love to keep Lowe in an administrative role. He has been a class act from day one and a great representative for our university. I don't think we can compete with NBA money though. 3/9/2011 10:52:16 AM |
adder All American 3901 Posts user info edit post |
^ We already weren't competing with NBA money. If he was all about the $ he would have never taken this job. Maybe they are negotiating next years salary down to the level of an assistant coach and allowing him to finish off his contract next year in that capacity.
It could be an issue with some of the players though. Some of Lowe's players (harrow, brown, maybe leslie) might be upset about things under a new coach and end up causing tension between the new and old regime. 3/9/2011 11:46:05 AM |

It could be more that is somehow not designated in his contract but that was the most reliable sounding source I could find.
Also if rumors were correct Lowe was offered NBA head coaching jobs as well.

That references a NandO article that is no longer available, but these are the details from the original contract that he still has one year left on:
Quote : | "The N&O highlighted the following
* BASE SALARY: $210,000
* SUPPLEMENTAL ANNUAL COMPENSATION: $290,000
* TV/RADIO ANNUAL COMPENSATION: $250,000
* ANNUAL BONUS INCENTIVES: After Lowe’s second season, a $50,000 annual bonus for years in which a team’s NCAA adjusted graduation rate over the preceding six-year period is 55% or higher.
* For ACC regular-season championship, ACC Tournament championship or NCAA Tournament bid, two months salary ($35,000).
* For appearance in the NCAA Tournament’s regional semifinals (Sweet 16), three months salary ($52,500).
* For appearance in the NCAA Tournament semifinals (Final Four), four months salary ($70,000)
* (Note: championship and postseason bonuses cannot exceed four months salary in any year.)
* TERMINATION WITHOUT CAUSE: $510,000 a year for remaining years on contract." |

That N&O article pops right up just search for Lowe in it and you will find the sentence I referenced. I tend to trust the N&O a little bit more than SFN. The article was from right after Fowler departed FYI...

i don't trust SFN at all, however an n&o article giving a detailed outline of his contract is worth a lot more than a line in an article comparing lowe to williams.

Maybe the article I referenced didn't include the Supplemental compensation (I am guessing wolfpack club or some other private money) how these coaches get paid is crazy. $510,000 is probably the amount the school actually pays? That makes the article I posted even more ridiculous because it compares the amount K made (verified by taxes) vs. the amount Lowe and Roy made (according to their contracts). Maybe I do trust SFN more than the N&O.

i think this game may have been a classic example of some of sid's most noticeable flaws, tell me if i'm imagining things/projecting:
strange substitution patterns - so by the first tv timeout, 4 of 5 starters were out of the game. start of 2nd half, harrow is the only player playing well, first to get pulled.
micromanagement of the game - so was it just me or did he add some new sets this game? they do that two guys at the top, run some screens alot, but if i'm remembering right, tonight was the first time we have repeatedly done that w/ the big men being the 2 guys up top. how does it help to have your passers down low and your posters up top? smith/vandy/leslie/howell arent gonna be making some fantastic backdoor pass/feed.
HOLY SHIT FOUL HIM - our complete ineptitude at fouling guys late. under 40 seconds and we dont foul the guy we double team in the corner so that we can isntead foul their best free throw shooter.
ugh
i grew up watching Les teams, but this has been the single most depressing/hard to watch season of nc state bball i can remember.
got love for lowe as a player/alum, but if he is back...ugh... 3/10/2011 9:08:12 PM |
