Hate to do this to you, but
say your car gets 20mpg, and the bike will get 45.
Every day you take the bike saves 2 gallons, or 6 dollars
To save 2000 you'd have to commute on the bike instead of the car 333 days.
On average(winter including) I doubt you will be able to commute more than 3 out of 5 work days, so 333 days turn into 111 weeks, about 2 years.
You would be saving the environment though

your math is fucked i think

car = 20 mpg
bike =45 mpg

commute = 140 miles

car commute = 7 gallons
bike commute = 3 1/9 gallons

9 x 7 = 63
9 x 3 1/9 = 28

so for every 9 days (3 weeks in your estimation)
he saves 35 gallons
times $3

$105 per 9 days

105 / 9 = 11 and 2/3

that means he is saving almost 12 dollars a day just off gas
which means he has to commute ($2000 / $11.6666) 173 days to equal it all out
or 53 of your 3-a-week weeks

that is of course if he is commuting 70 miles each way

so if the commute is half the distance you used, then it would take twice the time to make it back.

Well i did it.... i got an R6, its a 2004 red/black, and your right its fast as fuck. I havent even begun to get into the power yet, im taking it slow, ive only been to about 6 grand. But its worth it, i love it

BTW im glad i took the saftey course, it has helped alot, especially with the fundaments and confidence

Nice choice on the R6 and the color.
I usually get mid to low 40's on my carbed R6, but a lot of it is highway commuting, and since that was the topic, I picked 45. Also I'm pretty sure 70 miles is round trip.

I know the 600RR's have dual injectors so that could eat up gas when you rev the engine above 5k.

the hawk gets 45ish. maybe more. i cant clock it anymore since i took my tach off, going to upgrade that in a few.

about r6's if you stay outta the power band u can get mad good gas mileage.. but who wants to do that?

i rode an 04 r6 and compared to my 00 the off the line power was very nice. i got it up in 3rd gear (i dont try to wheelie bahaha) and it was fun.

nah this was directed to the red fi'd r6 that he just got. i did a roll one with my carb'd r6 with the 929.. it was nasty on the highway. i felt like i was going nowhere! but from a dig it's easier to get full on the r6 earlier than the 929.

i kept it for 4 reasons

1. it's too much fun
2. people kept repeating what i said in the ad when i brought it to them. then they would offer me some ngr price like 1500. i told them to find a faster better running sport bike with a title for that price, and then i would leave. i also realized i wouldnt be able to find a sport bike that i know everything about have a buncha spares for for this price..
3. i found a buncha parts on ebay cheap for it. so im going to take the cage off, put some decent fairings on and rock it like that.
4. having 2 bikes is too much fun.
