you didnt ask any tech questions, you asked dumb questions about somebody wanting to show you their phone.. just go to the store and play with one, theyre just sitting there and are completely activated and free to use and i've never even spoken to a sales person in an apple store ever..they aren't bothersome. 3/12/2008 10:12:01 AM |

well you've obviously never gone into an Apple store. The displays are fully functional and you don't have salespeople hawking shit at you the whole time. Furthermore, the sales people are actually useful if you have a question about any of the products. But if you wish, you can go in, not talk to anybody, and play with the iPhone for an hour and nobody will bother you. 3/12/2008 10:12:43 AM |

^ first of all, iPhone has the fake GPS (cell tower triangulation)...and the Exchange compatibility is supposed to come out in June right? If I somehow knew the 3G was built in to current models, I'd pull the trigger today. But there's no telling the status of that. 3/18/2008 10:43:40 AM |

well, I was holding out for 3G as well. But at this price, I've got no problems with just selling this one when the 3G comes out. Even with the flood of upgraders, I should still be able to (almost) break even. 3/18/2008 10:45:22 AM |

i have one, i know what it has already. it states pretty clearly on the website it supports EDGE, not 3G

i know 3g is not in the iPhone right now. what i was trying to say was that if they were for some reason building the hardware to support 3g at a later date, i'd buy now. but from what i gather people have dissected the thing to no end and theres no sign of the necessary hardware to support 3g, right? (or am i missing something, can they add 3g later to the current hardware via a software update?) 3/18/2008 12:21:02 PM |

it does turn by turn directions based on your current approximate location. if you're trying to find something 300 yards away, it won't be that much help. but if you're trying to go somewhere 1 mile+ away then its a huge help.3/18/2008 12:46:43 PM |

in a word, no.
3g requires specific hardware, which is not included in current models.3/18/2008 12:47:41 PM |

I'm wanting something that gives real-time auto updating turn by turn directions. I understand that it will give a list of turn by turn directions..but unless I'm missing something it doesn't do what I really want it to do.
Plus updating everytime you hit the button to show you current location is pretty slow on mine compared to a typical GPS system.3/18/2008 1:00:02 PM |

= GPS
I'm just saying I've found that new feature helpful. If I'm planning on a trip, it approximates my current location and gives me turn by turn directions on how to get somewhere. sure its not GPS, but its better than nothing (read: most other phones). but then i also carry a blackberry 8830 so if i really need gps i pull that out.3/18/2008 1:15:18 PM |

If you have your iphone jailbroken there are mapping applications out there that do an automatic refresh every 10-20 seconds so it's closer to the actual functionality of a GPS.
It's still not exactly the same, but it's a lot closer to the "real thing". 3/18/2008 1:52:41 PM |

no trolling. i have extensively played with both, and the biggest thing about iphone is 3rd party support sucks, and reception is as spotty as a leopard, in general. an all touch screen is gay, nothing to feel for refernce if you can't look at the phone, and it is not a one handed phone. i could add a few more points, but this is enough. 3/21/2008 11:36:16 AM |

3rd party software is about to blow up with the SDK
reception is fine, i dunno wtf you're talking about, it picks up better than my treo 650 ever did
all touch screen is debatable.. i would def prefer having keys, but being an all touch they did a hell of a job with the spell check making it a whole lot better than any other all touch screen phone. i know plenty of ppl who can't use treos or blackberrys with one hand while driving because they can't feel the keys good enough...i dont have any trouble using an iphone with one hand while driving--although it did take a while to get used to it 3/21/2008 11:38:44 AM |

i will believe this when i see it. i highly doubt it will be worth anything meaningful overall.
about the reception - look at att's coverage map, and tell me how is that better coverage, which in turn influences reception, better than any other carriers? outside of it being a great music player and being very pretty, and exciting because its an iphone, there is really nothing but complaints about the phone itself, or its shitty coverage. however, they are sweet, and if alltel carried then i would buy one, just maybe, but with att the sole carrier, i would not touch one with a 10 foot pole.

Are you basing this on anything, or just hating? have you looked at the SDK, or read about what it is capable of? There are some important limitations, but it is more powerful in some areas than any developer was hoping for, like full access to the multi-touch screen, the accelerometer, proximity detector, camera, an interface builder, etc.
Given that there was 100,000 SDK downloads in the first 4 days after release, that should tell you something about the excitement being generated about developing for it. Furthermore, already millions of iPhones have been sold and millions more coming, and Apple has just created a dead simple way to create applications and sell them on iTunes to a captive audience of millions of people. I garuntee there are thousands of developers out there will $ in their eyes when they think about creating apps for the iPhone.3/21/2008 2:26:34 PM |

iphones are awesome and i love playing with them, but i can see where seedless is coming from. One of the coolest things about my smartphone is the stereo bluetooth. I can stick a microsd in it, and listen to music without having to deal with a cord running to my phone on my stereo bluetooth headset, and i don't believe the iphone has stereo bluetooth (correct me if i'm wrong).
Also i got a smartphone so i could use it as a modem for my laptop. Couldn't do this with an iphone, considering the lack of 3G support. I guess once the iphone catches up on some of these newer features then i'll consider it, but the lack of a keyboard also really bothers me. Can't really use it in the car if you're not looking at it, and no matter how much i've played with it, typing is still much slower than using an actual qwerty keypad. 3/21/2008 3:17:53 PM |
