^^^Sweet! I didn't even realize they scored because the feeds are crap. The better news is El Salvador won 1-0, so Costa Rica trails us by 4 points with 2 games to go.

USA------16
Mexico----15
Honduras-13
Costa Rica-12
El Salvador-8
T&T-------5

Thank you El Salvador and Mexico! Maybe Honduras can blow it at El Salvador too. It's too bad El Salvador doesn't get to play Honduras at home before going to Mexico. When they lose at Mexico they will be eliminated. It's funny that as upset as we are with the USA blowing it at El Salvador and tying 2-2 that we are the only team out of the top 4 so far that has not lost there. T&T also tied them at 2-2 in El Salvador. LOL!

Yes because that would mean...

USA------19
Mexico----18
Costa Rica-15
Honduras-13
El Salvador-8
T&T-------5

Honduras could only get to 16 points by beating El Salvador at El Salvador which seems to be no easy task. Here is what will more than likely happen though since the home teams should sweep...

Mexico----18
Honduras-16
USA------16
Costa Rica-15
El Salvador-8
T&T-------5

El Salvador @ Mexico
USA @ Honduras
T&T @ Costa Rica

Mexico beats El Salvador
Honduras beats USA (goal differential puts them in 2nd)
Costa Rica beats T&T

We must not lose on the last day to go to the World Cup.

Here's the scenario for next round

USA is in if:

they defeat Honduras, OR
Costa Rica lose to Trinidad and Tobago, OR
they draw with Honduras AND Costa Rica draw with Trinidad and Tobago.

Even if we don't get points at Honduras, we still control our own destiny if we beat Costa Rica at home.

So worst case scenario would be us finishing in fourth and having to play the 5th place South America team for that last spot.

Huge T & T fan right now!

Is there any chance of a bar actually showing this over college football on a Saturday night?

^Yeh it sucks when they do that. I bet you will be able to watch it on there since those feeds are all from Central, or South America. The picture will be choppy though and they will probably cut it off. It sucked when they did that for teh Costa Rica game last week.

^Yeh but we need to not screw up, so that it can be a WC warm up. I'm still scared that Landon Donovan will be called up for the Honduras game that we are going to lose anyway and get his second yellow card, which will make beating Costa Rica hard.

whatever, we have nothing to lose in Honduras

I would rather go all out for a win and lose Donovan than be pussies (which will ultimately fail anyways) and save it for the Costa Rica game. Donovan knows he has a yellow, he'll just have to be smart, which he usually is... so I'm not worried.

U-20 World Cup

USA 4 Cameroon 1

Watch the highlights somewhere, or the rerun on espn360. The 3rd USA goal was awesome. It was an attempted cross that turned into a shot and a 3-0 USA lead. Then Banana Yaya got one back off a PK for Cameroon before we scored again.

Halftime

Korea Republic 2 USA 0

Germany 1 Cameroon 0

Group C
Germany--4
USA------3
Cameroon 3
Korea Rep 1

This is a 24 team tournament, so the top four 3rd place teams go, but just like at the World Cup and Olympics it looks like we will blow it on the last day like we always seem to do.

Soccer Q:
Just was watching the US/Korea match and am curious as to why some players on the sideline have a different jersey on over their regular ones? Have something to do with injuries or subs?

^^They do that so the reserves aren't confused with the starters.

Anyway we lost 3-0, so while it isn't official we will probably go home and finish outside the top 4 third place teams.

So how has US Soccer faired overall on the last day of tournaments that use a group play format before today?

FIFA World Cup
1930: Beat Paraguay (advance to knockout phase)
1950: Lose to Spain (already eliminated)
1990: USA goes 0-3-0
1994: USA loses to Romania (makes knockout phase with help)
1998: USA goes 0-3-0
2002: USA loses to Poland (makes knockout phase with help)
2006: USA loses to Ghana (Eliminated)

Confederations Cup
1999: Beat Germany (advance to knockout phase)
2003: Ties Cameroon (already eliminated)
2009: Beat Egypt (advance with help)

Olympics
1972: Lose to West Germany (already eliminated)
1984: Ties Egypt (Eliminated)
1988: Lose to Soviet Union (Eliminated)
1992: Tie Poland (Eliminated)
1996: Tie Portugal (Eliminated)
2000: Beats Kuwait (makes knockout phase)
2008: Loses to Nigeria (Eliminated)

U-20 World Cup
2009: Lose to Korea Republic (????)
(Outside of today the U-20 team has advanced and played well on the last day most of the time.)

okay enough of that U-20 bullshit... Honduras on Saturday

Here's the roster (Dempsey out with an injury, HeyDude added):

Quote :
"GOALKEEPERS- Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton)

DEFENDERS- Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Jonathan Spector (West Ham), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew)

MIDFIELDERS- Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca)

FORWARDS- Jozy Altidore (Hull City), Conor Casey (Colorado Rapids), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (1860 Munich), Charlie Davies (FC Sochaux), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)"

A win clinches, a tie would make things easier, loss doesn't kill us if we win at home against Costa Rica next Wednesday. Here's the scenario generator from USSF - http://www.ussoccer.com/Tournaments/FIFA-World-Cup-Qualifying/2010-FIFA-World-Cup-Qualifying-Final-Round/Scenario-Generator.aspx

It can only be viewed in bars/restaurants and there's no English broadcast in the Triangle. There are two Spanish broadcast options at Honduras Restaurant in Durham and somewhere called Centro Cervecero La Azonoa in Raleigh. The one in Durham is a $20 cover charge and the owner said all US fans are welcome... haven't heard anything about the other venue yet. I haven't decided if I'm going to go or not. I don't mind going if there is a decent group of US Supporters there, but I don't think it'll be much fun being one or two American fans in a place called Honduras Restaurant.

Hopefully Justin.tv will have it. Anyway, we will probably lose at Honduras and Mexico will win out. Costa Rica will beat T&T and go into our final game trailing by 1 point, so all we need is a tie vs Costa Rica. A loss and we drop to 4th.

^The home team has the tv rights to the games and can sell it to any network they want. That is why USA @ Mexico was only on Telemundo and Telemundo 2.

Mexico has a contract to show all of their qualifiers on Telemundo, or something like that, so that is why ESPN couldn't pick up the second game and everyone in the USA was stuck watching it on the Telemundo networks.

Telemundo did offer (and has always done in the past) the English rights to ESPN to cover the game in Mexico City. Their price was too high and ESPN declined to purchase them.

I need to check the ratings for the Costa Rica game. I figure at least one US station would bid enough to buy the rights out of the country. I can't see a company like Telemundo gaining much by keeping the rights to themselves and alienating a large portion of ellos que no pueden hablar espanol.
