I love metal myself, I keep metal going while Im at work on pandora. Im not a snob about what bands I really like, I can listen to most metal just letting pandora play. although I am partial to Pantera, Sepultura, Killswitch Engage, Lamb Of God, Soulfly, and Slayer. Oh and Megadeath sucks

IF you like WittR check out:

Krallice and Weakling.

Wittr has gone downhill since Two Hunters imo. The EP was alright but the LP just reaked of stagnancy and overall different feel as epic as two hunters did. I used to stay up all night when it was storming with my windows open and listen to that album the whole way through just looking into the woods. WittR is often described as a watered down less 'emotional' version of Weakling. Krallice is to weakling as crack is to cocaine. If that makes any sense. Either way if you look up an interview by Krallice or WittR they'll describe Weakling's Dead as dreams as one of the biggest inspirations for the things that they do.

I can't really get into Drudkh, but Intronaut is one of my favorite bands right now, the end of Sundail is like my favorite shit of all time. I wish i could just stream all the music i discover into this thread.

I still stand by what i said a few pages back for Deathspell Omega being the ultimate in black metal, but as for America, Weakling, Krallice and Wittr are the best black metal bands out there. Fuck Leviathan.

The Ocean Collective - I was listening to aeolian, but since i discovered that Ocean was an actual different band i've almost exlusively been listening to them. Other doom metal i'm pretty sprung for: Sourvein & Lesbian. I've been trying to listen to Conifer but they're a little too random for me. I just got some Evoken and Panthiest and will check it out at some point.

*shrug* I thought Black Cascade had some epic parts (Crystal Ammunition), but yeah I agree not as good as Two Hunters.

So i figured out what i'm going to do.


I'm going to continue playing with the drummer for the shit that i was writing, since he doesn't like black metal. I'll give this a month maybe 2 max, he lives in sanford and the bassist said he might not be good enough. Simultaneously, you and maybe ethan and whoever the fuck else can start another band thats similar but more blackmetallic.

i can't/don't want to put up any significant material until all post production, mixing, and mastering is done but I will post a little minute and a half clip of parts from 2 different songs. These clips are from the final tracking reference but as I said, there is no editing beyond the takes done here. (still sounds good and listenable though).

I just created some random fake purevolume account to load the song at and picked 2 kinda random parts. ie I tried not to pick any of the "weird" parts, just some kinda straight ahead rock and metal parts:

yea I use a dual rec and he uses a triple rec live. for the album tho we used a mixed tone of an old rack mount mesa with orange ad30 for most of the metal parts as well as a vintage mesa for some of the lead tones. and thanks man, glad you like the new direction. That old stuff was written when I was like 18 (24 now) and we were all just kinda at a different stage in writing and influences.

. part of it probably has to do with using the same studio and producer and the mesa we used was actually an old mesa of theirs haha. But yea I mean that is the comparison we most often get. We tried hard not to sound like them and the producer tried to help us get a slightly different sound, but no doubt some of their influence still shows through. As long as no one thinks the new album is a BTBAM ripoff I'm fine with comparisons heh.

Honestly all of the genres and sub genres of metal and hardcore are just stupid to argue about and almost impossible to distinguish. Instead, I usually just look at bands that tend to fall in the metal category that I like vs bands that I hate. Although I will say %99.9 of nu-metal and rap-metal stuff is shit...but....some stuff gets called nu-metal that really isn't simply because the time the band was started.

I know this is an opinion, but I have to strongly disagree with that statement. In general, while it is stupid to spend time actually arguing over what sub-genre bands are in, it is usually very easy to distinguish what sub-genre they belong to and those descriptions are very useful. There are definitely sub-genres I pretty much absolutely avoid and still other times the descriptions are useful when describing a band to someone.

Also, as much as I absolutely LOATHE anything Metallica has put out in quite some time, any list talking about metal that has disturbed on the positive list and metallica and megadeth on the negative list is fairly backwards to me And, as much as I hate most nu-metal with a passion, system of a down and incubus are head and shoulders above most as far as creativity and musicianship go within that genre (I really don't think they even fit that genre but they get lumped in because of the time they came out like you stated).
