I'll be in a Plant Engineer Training Program, which includes one year of working with operations on rotating 12 hour shifts and one year of working with maintenance on a more normal schedule with an overall goal of teaching me the ins and outs of a coal-fired power plant and the day-to-day operations of the plant.

I will be at a plant north of Roxboro, NC, just a mile or two from the VA state line and I start June 7th.

ok, so SCR is selective catalytic reduction and it pretty much means that we spray ammonia (in the form of synthetic urea, or piss) in the boiler to cause some chemical reaction that reduces nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions in the flue gas

for our scrubbers, they grind up limestone and mix it with water to make this slurry or some shit and spray it in the flue gas stream to reduce particulate matter and other pollutants.

i don't really know that much about either of these things. that's just what i picked up over a couple summers. all i know is that the ammonia pumphouses stink.
