Yes, beginning in 1986 on CBS at 10 AM, after the Muppets.
I liked the Muppets, but Pee Wee was weird to me...so that's probably when I turned the TV off and started annoying my parents about lunch. 9/10/2012 10:34:25 AM |

I would completely enjoy a pee wee spoof, no matter how poorly executed it was.
BTW, thread sideline:
Pee Wee Herman's original HBO special (basically an adult on-stage version of the show) is still funny and includes Phil Hartman as Captain Carl. I highly recommend it to anyone willing to excavate it from the deeper strata of the internet. 9/10/2012 2:45:55 PM |

Excavation not required. It's $13 on Amazon. Bought it for my mom for Christmas last year.

Season premiere pushed back from Oct. 19th to an as-yet-undetermined date.
Not a good sign, though it may be related more to the overall ratings trouble of everything on NBC than to any trouble with the new episodes. 10/9/2012 8:27:58 PM |

NBC claiming they did it to give them more time to devote some advertising for Community and Whitney. Now there are rumors that both will be moved from Friday night and put along with other shows that are doing well. Sounds like Community might be returning to Thursday night. 10/11/2012 8:12:42 AM |

Quote : | ""'Up All Night' switching to multicam - NBC aims to revitalize show with new approach"
NBC is taking the unusual step of switching halfhour laffer "Up All Night" from a single-camera format to multicam in the middle of the season. The second-season comedy, starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph, will finish producing its 11th episode of 2012-13 next week, then go on a three-month hiatus, during which its stage will be converted for filming before a live audience.
Those first 11 episodes will finish airing in December, at which point the show's 8:30 p.m. Thursday timeslot will potentially be available for the belated return of fourth-season comedy "Community," though that has yet to be determined.
"Up All Night" is then scheduled to go back into production in February for five multicam episodes that will begin airing in April, giving it a total of 16 episodes on the year.
"This was an idea we and (exec producer Lorne Michaels) came to in order to infuse the show with more energy," NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said. "We know what the multi-camera audience does for the live episodes of '30 Rock,' plus after seeing both Maya and Christina do 'SNL' within the past few months, we knew we had the kind of performers -- Will Arnett included -- who love the reaction from a live audience."
Series showrunner Tucker Cawley, whose resume includes multicam stalwart "Everybody Loves Raymond," will remain on board, as will creator and exec producer Emily Spivey (whose roots include "Saturday Night Live"). No cast or producer changes are planned.
The decision extends NBC's ongoing attempts this year to broaden its comedy approach, as seen in "Guys With Kids" and the recently short-circuited "Animal Practice." Another multi-cam show, "Whitney," makes its second-season debut in the "Animal Practice" timeslot Nov. 14.
"We think ('Up All Night') we can make a seamless tradition to the new format," Greenblatt said. "Also, we're committed to the multi-camera form, and this will give us another show to consider for next season in this new format."
Interestingly, Applegate's last series, "Samantha Who," almost made a similar transition. After two seasons on ABC, the network and ABC Studios in 2009 considered converting the show to a format resembling "How I Met Your Mother" -- shot multi-cam over four days without a studio audience -- in order to save money (Variety, May 14, 2009). Instead, ABC chose not to renew "Samantha."
Other shows have also switched formats -- "Happy Days," for one, began its life as a single-cam show for its rookie season in 1974-75 -- but to make the conversion midseason is exceedingly rare.
"Up All Night" had a 1.6 rating and 5 share among viewers 18-49 in its most recent airing Thursday." |

Quote : | "The Fourth Season of 'Community' Is Coming to Canadian TV November 9th
Still on hiatus at NBC, it looks like Community will be coming back on the air in Canada before we get new episodes in the States. Canadian TV station Citytv announced that the fourth season of Community will debut on Friday, November 9th. This doesn't exactly bode well for Community's future at NBC, given that the show's audience is a bunch of technology-crazy youngsters who torrent it in large numbers to begin with. If NBC doesn't schedule the new season before November 9th, Community could have a whole new ratings problem on its hands with hardcore fans who have been deprived of their beloved show for six months being tempted in large numbers to torrent the new episodes after they air in Canada instead of waiting until spring of 2013. Sheesh, this show can't catch a break." |

Well the Office and 30 Rock are gone after this season aren't they? What else is NBC going to do, run with Up All Night and revive Outsourced and Whitney? 10/30/2012 12:23:40 PM |

Whitney was never canceled. It was supposed to premiere with Community. NBC is moving out of the niche comedy market and into the more broad multi-cam format. Go On is the only single cam comedy out of their new generation of shows.
Up All Night's latest revamp to a multi-cam comedy is a last ditch chance to save it. Unfortunately we'll probably be looking at a NBC comedy night with Whitney, Guys with Kids, Up All Night, and whatever else they decide to plug in next year. Parks and Rec might get the 9pm or 9:30 or left to fend for itself on another night completely. 10/30/2012 1:20:35 PM |

Dumb question, what's the difference between multi-cam and single cam? 10/30/2012 2:13:32 PM |
AndyMac All American 31922 Posts user info edit post |
Multi-cam = set with an open front and generally a studio audience, the actors act out an entire scene at once. There are multiple cameras so when another person starts talking they can just switch cameras to focus on that person. Think Letterman or SNL.
Single-cam = movie style, they have one camera in a closed set and there are lots of cuts. Most TV dramas are single cam also. The environments can be more convincing because for example if they are doing an office comedy they can actually shoot in an office, and film from every angle instead of the same one every time (since there is no back wall on multi-cam shows)

Multi-Cam: Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, Home Improvement, 2.5 Men, Friends
Single Cam: Scrubs, My Name is Earl, Community, 30-Rock, The Office (mockumentary style)
those are just a few examples of each. Multi-Cam continues to have success even when most younger viewers and critics gravitate toward the writing on single cam shows. A much broader audience continues to enjoy the set-up to joke, repeat stylings of the multi-cam comedy. CBS has ran with it for years with great success. NBC is trying to move to that now too.] 10/30/2012 2:28:00 PM |

AFAIK CBS is really the only network still doing multi-cam for its most prominent shows. Besides the NBC single cam comedies there is ABC's Modern Family, Happy Endings, etc; Fox's Raising Hope, New Girl, Mindy Project, Ben & Kate.
On cable there is FX's Always Sunny, Louie, and The League. TBS's Tyler Perry shows are multi-cam but I refuse to believe anyone actually likes them.
And despite mostly pioneering the move toward single cam, NBC now wants to go back 10/30/2012 3:00:48 PM |

Interesting that he bailed now. I thought that since he got his way and Dan left the show he would stick around. I guess he was still disappointed that the new show runners still didn't think the show should be centered around him, as he thought. Oh we'll, won't really miss him. Wonder if they will kill him off, or just be like fuck it has anybody seen Pierce? Guess he got lost, or some shit. 11/22/2012 5:50:53 PM |

Garrett sending a Crisis Alert was the best joke of the night, although I liked that Jeff's standard speech was in Muppet Babies and I liked the tag.
Making the weird episode theme a brand new pop culture reference instead of something that's more built into film/TV zeitgeist reeks of NBC trying to hedge the Community formula toward a mainstream audience. The Hunger Games stuff didn't feel organic at all. There were no jokes, there was no concept. It wasn't written around characters. THEY JUST DID THE HUNGER GAMES.
Parodying a three camera laugh track shows doesn't work if your whole bit is HEY LOOK THREE CAMERA SHOWS ARE DUMB HAHAHAHAHAHA. Like any good parody, there has to be some heart in it, and a mark of appreciation for what the thing you're mocking is really going for. The example I'd use is "When the Whistle Blows" from Extras, which is kind of entertaining in its own right.
The Dean is too silly now. Even when he ended up wearing a crazy outfit every week, everything he does is backed by emotion. In this episode, he's just a dude in a dress and that's the laugh.
The more I think about this, the more it sucks. 2/8/2013 12:15:46 AM |
