Let's not forget that UNC had close to 200 yards rushing and Bernard will only be behind Sammy Watkins as offensive rookie of the year. So I don't know if we will be able to move the ball.

Thanks to stud players on offense (RW) and defense (Nate) that TOB did not recruit.

Not to be "that guy" but do we even have the mega-money to 1) Lure 2)Hire and 3) Retain a coach with all the qualities that we're looking for?

I'm not saying I'm an advocate for throwing money at the problem (see UNC) but we kinda got what we paid for.

like somebody mentioned earlier. nate irving AND russell wilson were not his recruits. they were amatos boys. similar to the way privers/ koren robinson/ jerricho cotchery were mike ocains recruits. similar to the way our badass teams from the early 90's were dick sheridans leftovers that mike ocain inherited.

we've had some viscous cycles like that around here where one fired coach gets all the credit for the next coaches 'building years'

by that logic TOB could have won us a national championship like LSU is going to this year with our NFL studded defense in 2005.

We need a T. Boone Pickens-type donor with lifetime Wolfpack ties and a grudge...... and about $1 Billion to give... that'll be enough to build up Carter Finley into SEC level approval, hire the next Urban Myer or Nick Saban and buy the Mcclatchy company to take over N&O and Charlotte Disturber.

i hate to keep brining this up, but RW made some pretty silly mistakes last year that arguably cost ust several games. So yeah, he won us some games. He also lost us some games.

i've heard you say this 2 or 3 times before. i'm not letting you get a free pass on it again

russell wilson put us into position to win those games in the first place with his playmaking and key 3rd/4th conversions with his legs and ability to open up the passing lanes by buying time on plays.

so had he not done that to begin with early in the game.. with his own skill, NCState as a 'team' would have never been in a position to win or lose the game with a 4th quarter INT to begin with.

if you take away wilson you take away even being in a position to win those to begin with. more like 2 TD or more blowouts.

this will be the 8th year in a row that clemson beats NC State. that right there is unbelievable. there have been some very mediocre Clemson teams in the time frame, since Philip Rivers last beat Clemson in 2003.

speculation. i tend to think that we should have been able to win that game over ecu. i don't think we needed rw to get to overtime. glennon might have won us that game. and that's just speculation too.

^^^^ What a surprise. Heather Dumb Bitch still hates us.

Seriously what loss was worse - us on national TV getting our shit pushed in by Cincy or Maryland getting demolished at home by Temple? I personally think Maryland's loss is worse since it was at home and Temple lost the coach that built their program (Golden). Temple is a good team though, almost knocked off Penn State two weeks ago.

how can you provide facts that show that it was only becuase of RW's heroics that got us to overtime against ecu (where he proceeded to throw the game away)?

I ain't hating on RW, just disputing the assertion that RW was the only reason we had a good season last year.

I love our fans. When we win, credit the players.

When we lose, blame the coach. I've never seen anyone give TOB credit for winning games. He gave us 9 wins and the closest chance we've ever had at an ACC championship game in year 4! Fuck, if you're gonna blame him for injuries/depth/whatever, at least give him the credit for the results we've seen so far. This is the first time I can honestly say that we are in a position to re-load. Every coach so far in NC State history has had ONE player they've been able to ride for success, but O'Brien actually replaced his lost guy, which is something previous coaches struggled with. TOB lost Wilson (spare me the why) and actually has replaced him with a serviceable QB who has a high ceiling. We are in a much better position than when we went from Rivers to J. Davis. That's the continuity I was expecting when O'Brien took over, and I'd like to give him enough time to see it through.

What is the funniest to me, is that it is pretty much impossible to go from the bottom to the top of a football conference in under 5 years, unless you're doing some shady shit. We were not a middle of the road ACC team when O'Brien took over. We were at the bottom. This is a reality that some of us seem unwilling to accept. I keep seeing people suggest we were an average team. We were NOT. We lost 9 games, including a loss to AKRON at home. Obviously, it's going to take some time crawling from the bottom to the top.

Then we have UNC fans, who wanted to keep Butch Davis around even after publicly embarrassing the university and producing mediocre results. Contrast that with us, who want to get rid of O'Brien for having better results and doing it without cheating. Does that make sense to anyone? UNC is about to get slammed, likely see a drop in recruiting, which will widen our recruiting pool, and we want to start over the same time they do?

we don't need a mega money coach. we just need a decent one that can recruit on par with where the school should be recruiting and run some kind of system. just get any shittalking son of gun to be our coach. mopey coaches don't work. coaching football is like politics and TOB is a good guy but he's "unelectable"

Quote :
" I've never seen anyone give TOB credit for winning games."

What game can you look at and say TOB's system, or calls won us the game? I can't find any. All I can find are instances where TOB's shit failed and RW ran around and threw some shit up for a score. When I look at all of our wins, I think we won in spite of TOB's coaching.

Quote :

We had the best defense in the country. This team is not good at ANYTHING. This is the worst we've ever been all around since I started watching state football.

Well guess what? We are on the bottom of the ACC again which means its pretty much impossible for us to be good in the next 5 years. Why do you think TOB should get 10 years before we even judge him?

We were an average team. We beat two top 25 teams that year, had a pretty good defense and just had a qb that liked to throw to the other team. QB is the most important position. You can have a really good team and bad results if you have a shitty qb or a shitty team and great results if you have a good qb.

Of course you think this. You hate him. Winning close games is usually a sign of coaching, by the way (2008, where most of our games were within 10 points and we still made a bowl with a blowout win in Kenan)

Quote :
"We had the best defense in the country. This team is not good at ANYTHING. This is the worst we've ever been all around since I started watching state football. "

We finished second to last in Chuck's last season. Any individual accolades is more of an indictment on that team than a compliment.

Quote :

We've played A conference game. We've barely even started conference play, let alone many games to necessitate a conference record. What are you gonna do with, one game?

Quote :
"We were an average team. We beat two top 25 teams that year, had a pretty good defense and just had a qb that liked to throw to the other team. "

We were not an average team. We lost 3 times as many games as we won. We were second to last that season in the ACC. We lost to Akron, Southern Miss, and ECU that year. It was the last year we lost to UNC., and we had two more conference wins than DUKE (who went winless that year). It doesn't matter how many cherrypicked statistics you pull out, we were a bad team that year, and the record proved it.

Quote :
"QB is the most important position. You can have a really good team and bad results if you have a shitty qb or a shitty team and great results if you have a good qb."

Oh? Tell me more! Say, how's are QB doing this year? Pretty swell, actually, which proves my earlier point that we finally replaced a good QB with a solid QB who has the potential to be a good player for us.

Just off the top of my head, the Daniel Evens Carolina game. We won that game because our offensive line was more aggressive and wore down their defense, leading to the game winning drive when we ran the ball on every single play.

So now that you are wrong, why don't you sit this thread out.

The biggest thing I personally put on a head college football coach is that he has direct control over who his assistant coaches are.

In all that has gone on over the past years with our football program the one thing I always turn to is that we've had trouble keeping our best assistant coaches, and for whatever reason whether it be loyalty, money, just the situation seem to be stuck with the bad ones for longer than we should have.

I actually think as a figure head of a program TOB is fine, but I lack faith in some of our assistant coaches and ultimately that falls on him to either step in and make changes or go down with them.

I think this school would function well with a TOB type at the helm, and some younger/inventive, forward thinking type assistant coaches. They do so much of the recruiting work and actual coaching anyway. We are never going to be a school that consistently brings in 4 and 5 star recruits, which means to win we need to be able to outscheme other teams and really coach up the 2 and 3 star players we do have. That falls on the assistants more than anything, but it falls on the head coach to pick ones that don't suck.

And it's pointless to debate, but RW flat out sucked last year against UCF. Guess some of you forgot his 10-30 game.

Boozie hurdled TOB's fence after the Cincy game (i think TOB told him to "get of my lawn!")

But he recognizes that last year's accomplishments don't rest solely on the shoulders of RW.
