I haven't used Outlook in forever but I remember there being a way to assign contacts to groups. See if there are any groups in your outlook address book.

iPad Helps 99-Year-Old Woman Rediscover Writing
http://www.kptv.com/technology/23230872/detail.html

Quote :
"POSTED: 6:40 am PDT April 22, 2010

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- A 99-year-old Lake Oswego woman has rediscovered her passion for reading and writing thanks to Apple's newest gadget.

Writing was always a big part of Virginia Campbell's life, but glaucoma recently made it difficult for her to read.

"I found recently that I wasn't even able to read large-print library books because there wasn't enough contrast between the print and the page," Campbell said. "I could write them all right, but I couldn't read what I wrote."

When penning her passion became too difficult, her family brought the near-centenarian into the 21st century by giving her an Apple iPad -- the tablet computer with a touch screen.

"The type jumps out at me," she said. "Now I can read again and it's just opened up the world."

On Wednesday, Campbell said the iPad is "kind of addictive." The device's oversized type and the contrast between the bright background and bold letters help bring stories into focus.

The iPad even inspired Campbell to write a poem:

To this technology-ninny it’s clear
In my compromised 100th year,
That to read and to write
Are again within sight
Of this Apple iPad pioneer.

As she approached her 100th birthday, Campbell could only marvel at her longevity.

"When I was born in 1910, they barely had an automobile in any use," she said. "I'm only 99½ but I consider myself in my 100th year."

Since Campbell's rediscovery of reading and writing, her son-in-law posted a video of her using the iPad on YouTube. It has since received 37,900 hits.

Campbell said she isn't particularly interested in using the Internet on her iPad, but she doesn't plan to slow down when it comes her reading and writing.

"You're never too old to take advantage of something that will help you," Campbell said."

I'm glad you guys dig this thing, as I've owned AAPL stock for a few years, but I don't really "get" the iPad, personally.

It doesn't do much more than an iPhone, and is too big to be pocket-portable, but not up to the task of being a "real" computer.

^ It's not meant to be a "real" computer, Duke. You might want to read some of the other pages in this thread... there's a lot of good material here to help explain it better, esp. from those of us that now own and use 'em.

The iPad's impact on the stock price should've been rather limited so far... One has to wonder what the stock holds going forward however.

People purchasing a product have nothing to do with the stock price being pushed higher.

As of the last earnings report -as I'm sure you're aware- the iPad represents %0 of Apple's revenues.

I'm curious what it will represent going forward. It's also odd that they're not offering a 3g version with a contract at a lower price. I think that was what got mass adoption of the iPhone to take place, but who knows maybe that's coming also...

Yeah, no doubt.

I just don't understand exactly what purpose it serves. I think I'd rather have a "regular" netbook, because (a) it would have a real, albeit downsized, keyboard...and (b) multitasking (though eventually this will probably be addressed with the iPad).

Ultimately, I think people would rather spend the $130 up front and not be locked into a contract with AT&T (who have thus far proven themselves to be utterly incompetent when it comes to managing iPhone service), now that people have seen the cost of contract lock in. I could be wrong, but I truly hope that people's experiences with the difference between buying and owning a 1st gen iPhone and buying and owning any of the subsequent generations is enough to make people reconsider the whole subsidy via contract thing.

I agree with you on principle (choosing no contract up front price, which is often lower anyway), however I think the average Joe that can't afford a "$600 phone" are willing to pay $200 + a monthly bill that's higher with a contract. This phenomenon is visible with other things, like cars. Many people buy something with a payment plan that would not have otherwise. I am against financing on principle, but as a shareholder see the value in increasing sales through the option of a subsidy.

i'll be really interested to see iPad 3G sales vs. iPad Wifi in the long run....I have the opportunity to swap for a 3G model but I just can't see myself justifying the cost.

The $130 up front isn't the big deal, but I just can't bring myself to pay AT&T $30 for a data plan for a not-so-mobile device. I cringe every time I take the device out of the house. It's fragile and looks nasty in anything other than a dark room (fingerprints).

Plus with iPhone 4G around the corner it seems like a waste of money!

The Jailbreak that they have that works with the iPad uses the same security hole that they found on the iPhone/iPad that supposedly can be easily patched by Apple once it's revealed. So the thinking is that they are waiting until 4.0 hits before they release the JB so that 4.0 will be jailbreakable.

Which is dumb, because it's not like they can't just release 4.0.1 that fixes the hole as soon as the JB is released anyway. Then again, I think it's funny that they think that Apple couldn't find the hole on their own if that was something they were truly interested in doing. The same security hole has been found by at least 3 separate hacker groups. It couldn't possibly be that hard to find if you know what you're doing.

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/04/28/apple_acquires_siri_developer_of_personal_assistant_app_for_iphone.html

Quote :
"Apple has purchased Siri, the maker of a mobile personal assistant application for the iPhone, with the move being characterized as a move that will increase competition with Google.

Apple's purchase was confirmed Wednesday by Robert Scoble, who theorized that the Cupertino, Calif., company might have paid about $200 million to purchase Siri. Previously, Scoble had declared that Siri was "the future of the Web."

"There's a new way to get things done - just ask Siri," the company's official website reads. "No more endless clicking on links and pages to get things done on the Internet. Delegate the work to Siri and relax while Siri takes care of it for you."

In a video demonstration, a user uses Siri to find local Italian food. The search is done with voice, and multiple sources of information are scoured to return results that include reviews, maps, and the ability to share with others via e-mail.

The free application (iTunes link) was also used to obtain a reservation for a restaurant using OpenTable, and to buy tickets for the film "Avatar" in 3D in IMAX. Users on the App Store have given the application an average rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

The software also supports open-ended questions, with one inquiry demonstrated: "What's happening this weekend around here?" The program returned results with events, including concerts and theater.

Voice queries are provided in "natural" English, as one would use in a conversation. The user said "How about San Francisco?" to have the location of the previous search automatically changed.

Scoble said the application is a "very cool personal assistant" that he thinks will play a large part in the future of the mobile Web.

"This shows Apple is very willing to buy its way into the new mobile web and the new API-driven web," he wrote. "This also could be a major cornerstone in how it competes with Google."

The news of another Apple acquisition came soon after The New York Times confirmed that Apple bought chipmaker Intrinsity for an estimated price of $121 million. Though the purchase had been rumored since early April, it was not confirmed until Tuesday.

Siri is the latest in a line of purchases for Apple, which has a massive war chest of more than $40 billion. Earlier this year, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said Apple must "think big" with its money, and that potential acquisitions will see the company taking "big," bold" risks.

Early this year, Apple bought mobile ad firm Quattro Wireless for $275 million. That purchase laid the groundwork for the recently announced iAd platform, set to launch later this year. Apple will offer developers of applications the ability to place unique, dynamic, content-rich advertisements within software released for the App Store for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

And late last year, Apple acquired streaming music service Lala for $85 million. Apple has not yet announced its intent with that purchase, but reports have suggested the company could use talent and technology obtained from the purchase to create a cloud-based iTunes that would allow users to access their purchased content from a number of Internet-connected devices"

yeah, i was wondering how widespread it was after reading those "well, it looks like you can after all" articles. b/c i'd drop some cash on one of those kits if it were true, but i'd like to hear some independent verification first. i wouldn't buy it solely for camera stuff.

Anyone have a USB keyboard I can borrow?

Hell, I don't even have a digi cam to test it out with anymore...

maybe if I connect the iPhone to the iPad it will cause a massive reaction and I'll have 3G capabilities in the iPad?
