1B gold glove is meaningless ever since Palmeiro won it in a year he played all of 28 games in the field 8/25/2011 4:24:21 PM |

All individual awards are meaningless
Maddux one time was like, "No cares if you win four Cy Youngs, they're not throwing you any parades"
But it would still be neat. Last Brave to win a GG in the field other than Andruw was Marquis Grissom.

Freeman has no shot
25 homers from a rookie 1B is solid, but 50 saves from a rookie closer in unprecendented

^ After the Philly series, it may not even matter. Unless the Braves sweep the Phils or they get in a funk, the Braves will pretty much be set in the WC. St Louis is out of it already so hopefully they'll be playing some young guys two weeks from now.
Plus the Braves should have Hanson back so they'll have 6 reliable arms (if you include BLowe) so they can weather that shitty stretch of games.
Having the next two days off might actually be helpful to the Braves as they did not have to use any of the Big Three out of the pen yesterday so even if they are used tonight, they'll get a mini All Star break to hopefully help them this last 1.5 months of the season. Plus all the other guys can always enjoy an extra day off like Chipper and McCann.

^ The Braves lineup today is a lot different than that shit lineup they were rolling out for the first 60% of the season. Adding Bourne was huge as it put Prado in his prototypical #2 hole that he is perfect for. Chipper finally is swinging a good bat, McCann has been there all season, Uggla is out of his mind right now, but never should have been hitting .160, Gonzalez sucks regardless, and Costanza/Heyward is light years better than McLouth/Schafer nightmare.
This lineup is not the Yankees or Red Sox, but it is not that putrid 2 runs per game shit we saw all May and June. 8/26/2011 4:33:40 PM |

Diaz should only be used against LHP, he's never shown much ability to hit RHP. Constanza should get the starts against RHP. Heyward should be sent to the minors to try and get his confidence back. 8/31/2011 5:28:50 PM |

Compare to lugo. He's got a bat. 9/1/2011 4:21:39 PM |
rflong All American 11472 Posts user info edit post |
^ I'll give you that, but everyone knows Lugo never should have been back in the bigs anyway. Wilson is a good addition though and can play both SS and 2B and has a little speed so if/when he spells Gonzalez or Uggla down the stretch, it won't be the dramatic drop off it was to Lugo or Diory.
Lugo will forever be remembered for his epic slide at home that ruined the Pirates 2011 season.

^^that's a mighty big if right now...hanson might not even pitch again this year and jurrjens just seems completely lost right now. at least hudson is solid as ever, beachy is looking like a sure thing, lowe has had a few good outings lately, and minor is pitching really well. plus teheran and delgado on the way!
