I can't wait to get a couple copies of Bloomberg after work. I'm gonna loiter around and point it out to strangers.

I like how they have tried to make it where the athletes are somehow "victims" now. I mean I know they are basically stupid and all, but seriously, they knew damn well what they were doing and more than likely went to UNC because of this bullshit.

One of the losers on IC emailed the owner of Bloomberg who is on the UNC BOT and asked him what his "end game" was...and among other things, his reply included:

Quote :
"Quoted from his [Barrett's] email on things UNC must come to grips with: "In all likelihood academically ineligible athletes on NCAA championship teams."

lol...so a fucking UNC BOT bigwig personally wants banners to be taken down. I love it.

Not only should Dan Kane win a Pulitzer for investigative reporting, they should rename the award after him -- especially if banners start coming down.

That isn't even remotely the most egregious misuse of FERPA by a university. Everyone hides behind it when they don't want to release a record.

Its somewhere on page 3 of this thread:

I think the academic coneheads at UNC are about to take this over and try to run the athletic program into the ground just like our school dude during the JimmyV fiasco.

Kudos...burn that mother fucker to the ground.

I don't remember taking too many classes I didn't have to show up to in order to pass.

*Except PHI 340 with Austin. But that class was a crock of shit. You still had to be able to reason your way through his stupid ass online tests.

The faculty at UNC would have burned Athletics to the ground already, the only thing stopping them was that ugly bitch who leads their Faculty Group, Boxill or whoever.

screw that. make them take their banners down in a public shaming. i'd fully expect those pricks to twist "voluntarily vacating" into some sort of high horse PR move to show how responsible and full of integrity they are.

They should televise the public shaming for a viewing at Reynolds. Assign seats based on WPC priority.

Those tests were horrible. I luckily got out of that class with a B+ I think. Definitely got lured into the "never have to show up for class" trick.

I wonder if, if the heat gets to be too much, they'll throw Roy under the bus and take down his banners in an effort to spare Dean Smith any scrutiny. The AFAM department clearly started under his watch and gave him, that third championship. Roy is huge there, but I think Dean is bigger, and UNC might well sacrifice Roy to spare Dean, and that order might also come from Swofford via back channels.

Someone just posted a summary of the Bob Edwards radio show this morning where Mary Willingham and Jay Smith were interviewed. Some pretty damning stuff:

Quote :
"Far from being intimidated by all of the pressure and attention, Mary and Jay actually seem more emboldened than ever. As Planet Boulder mentions, they pull absolutely no punches. They specifically call out Roy, the BOG, the BOT, the Administration, Thorpe and others for a pattern of obfuscation, cover-up and a complete lack of desire to get to the truth.

Bob Edwards does a great job of leading them through the scandal and many of the related issues for more than 40 minutes. While none of the improper benefits issues are addressed, the academic scandal is covered in great detail and at great length.

Anyone listening who was not already familiar with the breadth and depth of this scandal will have a thorough understanding of it by the end of the interview. And perhaps more importantly, the University leaders are clearly exposed as liars and cover-up artists. Bob is clearly in the camp of Mary and Jay and gives them a platform to tell the story.

Some additional tidbits to note:

There is at least one player talking -- Mary suggests that his story will be public by the end of the month. There may be others who are considering coming forward as well.

Mary says indirectly that Roy is lying about any knowledge of the illiterate basketball player -- she says that they both know exactly who they are talking about.

There are additional faculty members already talking -- it wasn't clear to whom, but likely Barrett, Kane and others.

Mary acknowledges that she started speaking to Dan Kane in 2011.

Mary also suggests that a class action lawsuit of former athletes is a possibility. This doesn't sound like there is anything imminent, but she suggests that it is within the realm of possibility and perhaps the source of at least some of the Administrations' fear of admitting the truth. (personally, I think it has more to do with the fact that nearly everyone in a decision making position is implicated in the scandal and they would risk exposing their own role)

They also suggest that this likely does reach back to Dean. They don't provide any hard evidence of this, but they did not shy away from it when asked that question directly.

As many as 800 athletes were told that they could not comment to anyone about the scandal or they would be subject to lawsuits.

They do also spend some time talking about the fact that they have received numerous letters from faculty, administrators and even one University President at other schools acknowledging that they have seen similar situations at their schools and they are watching carefully what happens at UNC. It would seem that UNC could indeed be the start of some larger exposure of the entire NCAA system. They end the interview by apologizing that they have made UNC ground zero of this debate but they argue that they will not back down until the truth is fully exposed."

The only thing I don't like is that last paragraph. I wouldn't mind a whole system wide change to prevent schools from doing shit like this (maybe majors catering to athletes who can't perform normal course work...like shit you can get a community college that actually gets you some job skills)...I just want to make sure UNC gets their comeuppance. Time to get in the fuck rafters and take those banners down.

A friend of mine used to hang out with a few players because she was good friends with Ginyard's roomate. She said Hansbrough was creepy. Challenged her to a cookie eating contest. She didnt want to play. So he just went and ate like 12 cookies and goes well i just ate over half of them so now you cant win. good one"
