Quote : | " I met a woman through work this spring. She is highly attractive, and wicked smart ( cheme phd) and a little older (mid 30's). She doesn't work at my site but works at one of the plants in Denmark. during her visit we got to know each other and eventually hooked up . While I was Denmark this summer we moved beyond the one night stand and had a few dates/ outings while i was there. We still talk almost weekly for a few minutes and just shoot the shit. Recently a coworker told me she is engaged and has a teenage son. I dont know how I feel about this as I never asked and deep down I know that is bad and probably shows a little of the crazy in her. I don't think this is going to go anywhere but I know we are attracted to one another( she has told me this) and when we spend time together it seems perfect ( minus her maybe having a fiancee and kid). It was brought up at work this past week that I may be expatriated and work in denmark for a few years. I would love the opportunity but part of me says on a personal note I would get hurt if i continue talking to her/ seeing her when the chance arises. Its very confusing. " |

Affairs are different in Europe. Way more accepted & casual.
If you get a chance to go the Denmark for work, go & just don't expect this to turn into anything. She prob won't be weird if you're not. So don't be weird about it 9/6/2012 11:57:56 PM |

Sparky, I wouldn't say being a swinger is the norm
However, men & women have affairs (more common for men) & it's just not as big of a devastation as it is here. It's seen as sexual & not emotional. It's not like dudes are telling their wives "bye honey, off to fuck my mistress!" it's definitely secretive but the women usually suspect & just don't do anything about it.
This may contribute to the fact that people in Europe get married later in life & start families later too. My American friend married a European & got pregnant on their honeymoon (oops). People legit asked her if she was keeping the kid.
Which reminds me, abortions in Europe are fucking standard too. No big deal. Also, lots of pregnant women smoking, at least in Switzerland. It was a big wtf for me. 9/7/2012 11:31:03 AM |

Here's some advice:
Quote : | "Don't stop doing it with your hubby. Ever.
Greatest gift of marriage is the love. Cherish it every day and never forget what got you where you are in your relationship.
Don't let yourself go. You're a beautiful person, inside and out.
I've got more, but you don't need to hear them from me you're ready for it!." |

Quote : | "The older I get, the more I realize how naive and stupid I used to be. This causes me embarrassment, shame, and humiliation. It makes me wish life had a "Do Over" button for certain things. I think about all the "first impression" moments I've had over the years that I fucked up without even caring about future repercussions. I think about all the bad decisions I've made, all the chances I didn't take because it was easier to do nothing. Those thoughts are enough to actually make me feel some semblance of regret. I never thought I'd see the day that I felt regret for anything. Obviously, that was a very naive and stupid notion assumed by a very naive and stupid person." |

If you had a do-over button you wouldn't be the person you are now. 9/7/2012 10:39:06 PM |
elkaybie All American 39626 Posts user info edit post |
I agree. Also I feel it's never too late to make a first impression.
Then again I tend to get burned by giving people multiple times to prove or redeem themselves to the point it's ridiculous. So maybe you shouldn't take that part of my advice...or at least don't be discouraged if people don't think/believe in the "new" you.
But regret is silly.
So if you regret so much that you hate yourself or where you are...fix it. Don't just wallow in regret. fix it. 9/7/2012 10:47:10 PM |
Meg All American 6759 Posts user info edit post |

Amen. Every mistake that you make contributes to you being the wonderful person that you are. As long as you like who you are, you should be grateful for the mistakes that you have made and try to live your life without feeling regret. I am an imperfect person, but I love myself and embrace my imperfection.
