I have been to a NASCAR race... it's pretty much like watching it on TV, except louder, you're surrounded by inbreds, and you can't watch something else until the last 10 laps

Exactly. If you think racing is lame, boring, etc... just go to one in person. It's always worth the money and its just so much more awesome in person.

I don't "have it in my head" that it's boring, like I'm deluded about it and missing the obvious glory or something. It is undeniably one of the simplest forms of professional racing. Ancient engine designs, simple tracks, you only turn one in one freakin' direction the entire time and don't even change gears on most tracks. *I* find it painful to watch and the fact that fuel economy is frequently a deciding factor serves as another great example of how boring this form of racing is...

That said, there's nothing wrong with watching or enjoying NASCAR as long as you do understand it's one of the simplest forms of racing known to man
