Went to the game tonight against Tampa Bay...it was great. The RBC center was nearly empty, but we played awesome. That Cole-Vasicek-LaRose line is going to be awesome this year. I think the rules really help out the game, it's so fast and exciting. Hot dogs, beer, and hockey...I'm so glad its back! 9/22/2005 11:22:07 PM |

Against Matt Cullen, there's no way for the goalie to win unless he gets VERY lucky. Cullen has a deadly combination of skills for a shootout: an accurate wrist shot and a believable shoulder drop. While he might become famous for the fake, a goalie can't become complacent. The goalie has to respect Cullen's first move, because if he convinces himself that a shoulder drop is coming and that he shouldn't react to it, he'll get toasted on a first move shot. Either way, he has to commit to something, and that's when the accuracy takes over.
On top of all that, I guarantee you Cullen has at least two more sure fire moves he can pull out.
Don't be surprised if you see something on ESPN later this year about Matt Cullen, Shootout King. 9/23/2005 2:34:05 AM |

No its not safe to say, especially when you look at the depth of a team like the Flyers, the Lightning have the core coming back, although they do have a question in net, Nashville could make a nice run this year, Ottowa has a strong team9/23/2005 11:03:42 AM |

Actually, the only sure thing you could say is Washington is going to have a shitty year. There's too many other strong teams to say any particular one is a sure fire bet to succeed. While I'd love to see the Canes do well, they haven't really even been tested yet. All i know is I see a loss coming for the canes on the 26th 9/23/2005 2:49:23 PM |

He might make the team. He signed with the team in August of 2003 as a free agent. He's 23 and from Fraser, Michigan. Last year playing in Lowell he had 20 Goals and 22 Assists. Coach has liked how he's played in practice from what I've read and he's played well in the preseason games they've played so far. Sunday against FLA he had one assist. Against ATL he has one assist and one penalty. Last night against TBL he had a goal on a penalty shot and one assist.9/23/2005 11:50:22 PM |

haha...it was a joke. under no circumstances would i ever consider the team i root for the best team in anything, even if i really did think so, because that only sets you up for disappointment. but if i ever say "its safe to say", then its sarcasm, indicating it is no where near safe to say.
oh, and i also know nothing basically about hockey, so i couldnt tell you who looks strong and who looks weak, i just know the hurricanes have blown for a few years now.

It's worth pointing out right now that three of the top four preseason scorers in the NHL are Carolina Hurricanes (Hutchinson #1, Zigomanis #2, Vasicek #4). Obviously, the big guns in the league aren't playing a lot, but all of these guys are racking up 2+ points per game.

The 'Canes assigned more guys to Lowell today. Forwards Gordie Dwyer, Colin Forbes, and Dave Gove and defenseman Bruno St. Jacques. The roster is now down to 26. They had the day off today to do some team bonding stuff and have supper together. The 'Canes only have two preseason games left before opening the season up in Tampa on October 5th. 9/26/2005 8:51:02 PM |

Ladd will go down for sure, one of the defensemen will probably be moved (most likely Ward), and LaRose/Nordgren/Boulerice will be the last one taken from the top 12. 9/30/2005 1:21:02 AM |
