Are you serious? We were suppossed to beat the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS by 20? WTF Dude, just be happy we won. And since when is the Sweet Sixteen mediocrity? 16 teams out of 330 in Division I basketball, thats a pretty good acheivement.10/27/2005 2:18:06 PM |

I think that Miami deserves that spot a hell of a lot more than them." |
Because.... they return Williams and Gray. Paul was good, but these guys could be stars for any team. We lost our heart and soul in Hodge. We're talented... but talent can still suck ass if it's leaderless (See: Post-Rivers years)
We have the talent to be #2... I think everyone is waiting to see how we respond. I think we're deeper than Wake, but we lost the guy that made our team click... he was our team. Wake lost 1/3 of that puzzle.... Gray and Williams can easily step up and lead the team... we haven't proven that yet
And everyone saying UNC will be very good.... no way. I think they're too high as it is. You VERY RARELY can win with talent alone. Give me 5 crappy seniors over 5 stud freshmen anyday. McCants, May, and Felton were studs and you saw what they did their freshmen year (And no, it wasn't Doherty's fault... no one could have won with those kids).
UNC is really gonna struggle this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't make the NCAA's

^^ no no man, I was talking about the Wisconsin game.. the stats in that game are staggering - Wisconsin had like 11 turnovers in the first half and 0 assists.. they averaged around 64 points a game and we let them score 44 in the 2nd half..
no hell no we shouldn't have beat UConn by 20
Mediocrity in the regular season - I'm not the kind of person that totally ignores a regular season and bases success strictly on the postseason - I like winning games in the regular season, I hate losing to rivals, I hate worrying everyday if we'll even make the tournament - thats the mediocrity I'm talking about

i dont think we relied on hodge because we had to, like the football team did with rivers. i think it was just hard not to say "here, you take it" when you have a player on the court likes hodge. it may take em a little bit to find themselves without jules, but i think it'll be a whole lot easier for them to succeed than the football team is doin with out rivers.

I'm not worried about scoring without Hodge. It'll be tough, but we'll find a way to do it.
I'm worried about our phsyche without Hodge. He was cocky, funny, hated to lose, and always found positives in everything. I just hope our team isn't "lost" or lack the confidence that Hodge gave them.
Although it's two different circumstances, I think that's exactly what happened with Rivers. Now, I do believe Rivers was a better "once in a lifetime" player compared to Hodge, but given how our team was prior to Hodge, I just hope we don't turn back down that road. I hope the confidence and will to win is still there... 10/27/2005 2:25:04 PM |

Yes Sendek is respected and shows improvement every year. Do you remember the state (pun intended) of the program when he got here?
Youre right though, respect and improvment are what sendek brings, i cant believe we are accepting this as state fans...get us another amato! 10/27/2005 2:31:11 PM |

^^ what does Amato have to do with anything? Yeah, I like Herb Sendek - he's a very classy nice guy, but I wish it came with more results. Is it not possible to get some other classy coach that can actually win more games to come? 10/27/2005 2:35:52 PM |

Whats the reason behind that? We always play in such a shitty preseason tourney, the NIT would be cool.10/27/2005 2:36:32 PM |

^B/c BC is also in it. We can't both be in it, and their contract must've been before ours. Says that in the article. 10/27/2005 3:40:35 PM |

^he hyperextended it in practice last friday or something...but herb said he still might play in the red-white game. They made a big deal from it b/c of Levi Watkins and Evtimov's early season knee injuries in the past.
I agree that it will hurt us losing Hodge because of the type of player he was, but if you will remember, he had nights where he couldnt throw the ball in the ocean if he was standing in it (see st. johns). Don't get me wrong, he was a GREAT player and had GREAT games, but I think we will be able to find the offense without him. The problem is the leadership. Even when Hodge was having a bad game, he would always seem to make a big defensive play or make a good shot just to get the team fired up. Thats what we will miss and hopefully someone like B-rack, Grant, or Simmons will step up when it counts.
And about Simmons and Grant not hitting a lot of shots...I think they will be better this year and not n00b all over themselves. I just think they made a lot of stupid mistakes from a lack of experience. Grant will NOT make as many turnovers. (hopefully)

its an offense that breeds off of unselfishness and lookin for the backdoor cut and easy layups as well as milkin the other team to sleep
when no one person is set on driving everytime and being the go to guy then we have a nasty offense
for instance when we had melvin along with hodge and powell, there was no one person u could count out to drive and throw it down it should be the same now...all weapons are equal, u cant jsut guard one guy hard all day like in a motion offense 10/28/2005 3:51:26 AM |

i wouldnt call it a nasty offense
our D forces turnovers
Carolina and Wake last year had nasty offenses 10/28/2005 4:11:29 AM |

carolina did yes, up and down the court with the amount of talent they had and athletes that could run so much they would tire the energizer bunny out 10/28/2005 4:19:54 AM |

whatever man... we barely got any easy layups last year.
for the most part teams have figured out hwo to defend our backdoor cuts.
The only time we had any success on offense was when we were hot from the perimeter 10/28/2005 11:18:46 AM |

btt, see no one was predicting wake to be good this year...
and for the record i put them third in the conference, but thats because i think the ACC is weaksauce this year. Most teams are down...
i could still seeing them finishing third, since they are actually a little better than i thought right now 12/13/2005 11:30:56 PM |

if we didn't run a girly man offense that makes players into sissies, we would have 2nd place on lock down and would be challenging duke 12/13/2005 11:34:58 PM |
