Exactly Mathman, that is why I am going to try things that I like. Being smart is relative I guess. As long as you are happy with what you are doing it is all worth it. Going for college education, I realized that I can't spend every waking moment doing homework which makes absolutely no sense. Then, not being able to see the bigger picture of what I am doing is also a big big minus. Engineering is for some people but it is not for me. Sure, the money is great but I'd rather accept a remedial job that makes me happier than a job that makes more money.
When I come home from my ECE classes, I am in a bad mood, I am stressed out and frustrated that the classes are not making any sense. Plus, they assign HW like I am suppose to know the shit. I mean, it is one thing if you like it and you are doing bad. Then stick it out. If you didn't what you were getting into and then doing bad, change is probably a better option.
Plus, even if you graduate as an Engineer, who would want to hire you if all you do is complain about how much you hate Engineering. You would make a terrible and incompetent Engineer. I can't believe that some of the professors flaunt at the idea that they are weeding people out of Engineering. Not to mention any names, cough* Cecilia Townsend *cough. But the blame is put on the student that he is not getting the material. Anyways, best of luck to all those who are still in Engineering. MORE TO POWER TO YA 11/18/2005 10:07:06 PM |

ECE (and a lot of other majors) isn't supposed to be a cakewalk. Sorry I had to inform you about this. The homeworks (especially something like ECE 200) aren't exactly going to be cakewalks either - well some of them are....but for the most part, I would say you're going to have to put forth a bit of effort to get them done correctly. Another problem is there's so many topics they try to cram into the curriculum - I think Dr. Davis told me that a few years ago they had to reduce the number of total hours because it was ridiculously high and people were taking 5 years to get a 4 year degree and somehow the state was paying for it and so of course they didn't like paying for an extra year...but there's so much to cover - so of course not everything's going to be explained in painstaking detail. If you did, I'm afraid to think how many years it would take to get a degree. That's why when you get a job in the real world, they usually spend some time training you - I mean you can't learn everything.
I think if there's something that really interests you in the curriculum (like if you enjoy 301 or like the circuits part of 302 or liked the assembly part of 206...) - then that's kind of a way to help you find an area to specialize in. If you're that interested in it, you'll go take something like 402, 403, 404, 464, etc. later on and learn more in depth about it.

Honestly if you get a degree in Engineering and you're still complaining about it, I hate to say it but you made that decision so shut up about it - switch or finish up and go onto something else. I don't think this is a widespread problem - sure you complain when you're taking classes, but I really don't think engineering graduates are constantly pissed off or something.
