LOL, Brokeback Mountain just lost best picture.

According to the Oscar website, Hoffman just won best actor which makes me VERY happy.

(ignoring the ignorant comments previously spoken)

CRASH was a GREAT example of the potential that movies have to make an impact on society and at the same time be entertaining.....btw I feel the same about Brokeback Mountain and am glad it received recognition

No no I see what you're saying.

But maybe they should have given it to a good movie instead?

Or even an average one. Like Brokeback.

You crazy bastard.

p.s. If you think Crash makes a bold statement about race relations, maybe you should see Manderlay.

IMO, Brokeback was seriously overrated. I can't wait for all the homophobia accusations though.

It was, at best, a slightly above average love story. This has been covered plenty in the Brokeback thread, though.

p.s. The two decent noms--The New World for Cinematography and The Squid and the Whale for Original Screenplay--lost.

^^^^you're right, the best picture winner is an awful movie. you're opinion is the only one that matters.

and i'm talking about how the seemingly unrelated stories intertwined, i'm not gonna spoil it for those who haven't seen it. maybe comparing this mingling of stories to pulp fiction was a stretch, but its the same basic principle

I guess your opinion is fact.

I think I will listen to you before I listen to the ~133 critics who liked crash and the ~99 that liked gladiator.

I'm not saying it's a terrible movie.

I'm saying it's an average movie.

And I'm saying when you're trying to pick the best film of the year

you can't let this JV shit slide by.

If you're asking me what I thought the best movie of 2005 was, that would be Me and You and Everyone We Know.

If you're asking what movie might have possibly had a shot at an Academy nomination, that I still think is deserving, Syriana. But, like previously mentioned, Traffic got robbed, so I guess the academy just isn't down with Gaghan.

It's also worth mentioning, as was mentioned by Jon Stewart, Three Six Mafia: 1. Martin Scorcese: 0.

I definitely agree with this statement. There's nothing special about Gladiator that warrants a best picture nomination, much less win

I can't say how thrilled I am that "Hustle & Flow" won the best song.

I personally felt that the song "In The Deep" from Crash was absolutely the best song. However, those guys were so freaking thrilled to win that award it was worth it just to see how they reacted. Plus, Crash didn't get the shaft when you look at the whole night.

I knew when Brokeback started winning all these "random" awards that someone else would win Best Picture. The only 2 awards I had qualms w/ was Male Supporting Actor (gotta give that to Cinderella Man) and Best Male Actor (I liked Phoenix, but I never saw Capote...)

Good show overall...John Stewart's diss to Scorsese and props to 3-6 Mafia was HILARIOUS.

I still love you, Amy Adams.

P.S. I was gonna argue in favor of statefan24 just to PO my good friend spookeh, but on the last page (s)he said that the M. Night Shamsasmksjasaa;llyan commercial was cool.

Nothing related to that self-absorbed hack is cool.
