Baldwin wanted to go to FLA early on, they just did not give him a firm offer

hopefully he will stay loyal, and is the type of guy that does not want to be the leftovers in that FLA recruiting class

but more likely than not he thinks he is good enough to get playing time down there, and wants to prove them wrong for not offering earlier

bad vibes that Walker is committed and he is not....not a death sentence for us, but not good either

Baldwin is waiting on test scores.

Probably wont announce for two weeks

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/colleges/recruiting/13764951.htm

Quote :
"South Dade had seven signees in all, including two with Division I-A schools. But defensive back Darin Baldwin, who originally committed to N.C. State, Dade's No. 7 recruit, remained undecided on signing day. He said he was considering walking on at the University of Florida, despite having a full scholarship offer from N.C. State.

''My dad advised me to sit back and wait until I got my test scores back,'' said Baldwin, who attended his teammates' ceremony at the school. ``I should get them in about two weeks, I'll make my decision by then.''
"

Ouch

That's another way of saying "Either me or daddy are waiting to see how UF turns out and if they have any schollies. If they don't have one, I'm gonna fax my LOI to NC State"

No...today is the first day. People just go ahead and fax thier LOI's to reserve thier schollies.

Technically, we could assume Baldwin elsewhere... sign someone in his place...fill up our class... and he'd be shit out of luck if he didn't go to UF. It would all be his fault too

I think you have until like april to sign a LOI without a penalty...maybe not quite that long

Nah, our class isn't near full. We can take a full class (25)... I just dont think we will give out scholarships just to fill the class. Chuck saw something in Everett Lewis.

And if Baldwin wants a scholly...Baldwin will get a scholly. Kids looks like a helluva player

Could we not threaten him with that right now? You would think that if he had a full scholarship locked up, and there's a chance that he wouldnt have one at all, he would take the guaranteed one.

I dont understand what goes through some of these kids heads sometimes. I know it would be great to go to Florida, but if you're as good as you think you are, any big time 1-A program can get you to the next level.

and yes, we're big time. We're not good, but we're big time in that respect.

Yes... we could.

Problem is, we really don't want to. Like I said... he's one of our best prospects. If we were looking to sign 25.... which we're not... I would imagine we'd tell him "now or never".

With the situation as it is (signing under 20 or so).... we'll let him make up his own mind.

Exactly. Shows we're fishing in the right waters. We just need to win and it'll be a lot easier to get these guys

wolfAApack, we shouldn't stoop to their level. We are better than they are.

notice that UNC didn't recruit heavily outside NC. That shows the pond that they are fishing in. We're going after national recruits.... UNC has an unfair advantage with teachers only being allowed to come from NC basically running the schools. They educate the teachers/coaches/administrators in NC, so the schools are naturally going to slant toward UNC. That's hard to fight against, and plus the recruits from NC aren't always as good as some of the lower rated recruits elsewhere.

yeah an ACC championship would help a little.

One thing I noticed about this years class...All of them are 2-3 stars. No really shitty players so far, no great players, but their short free profiles all say that they are hard workers and a lot of them play multiple positions, so they're not highly ranked at any one position. If we can actually do some coaching in the next 2 years with these guys, we might have something good on our hands. The most important thing is that they're willing to work...hopefully those coaches comments are true.

^oh trust me dude, I know...I was joking. One reason I tolerate Chuck more than other people is the way he runs the program. We might not win, but at least we're clean...as far as we know. I have no desire to stoop to their level. We'll end up with more recruits in the long run by not being assholes to the kids. Word will get out eventually. I just hope chuck doesnt get as fed up with UNC as we do ...and end up breaking down and looking like a bitch...exactly what bunting does.

Like i said... our class usually consists of a 4-5 star player or two from NC... and a bunch of outcasts from Florida that are more talented than most NC 4-5 star players.

This year, the NC sucks ass... so we're getting a few NC players and mostly Florida outcasts.

Per Mullins Article on IC:
Quote :
"The weekend of January 27th, Mullins took his official visit to UNC. He spent Friday with coaches and players and even attended a UNC basketball practice to meet with Roy Williams and Tyler Hansbrough. On Saturday afternoon, Mullins attended the UNC basketball game against Arizona.

“It was a great game and the fans and students gave me a lot of love -- too much love,” Mullins said, embarrassed. Following the game he was joined by UNC commitment Deunta Williams for a night on Franklin Street.

“That was my first time on Franklin Street at night,” Mullins said. “It was crazy, but crazy in a good way.”

Of course, mixed in with the fun was time spent discussing academics, meeting with coaches and academic counselors to discuss the support system for students at Carolina

“I spent some time with Octavus [Barnes] and the rest of the academic support folks,” Mullins said. “They told me how they could help me get a degree at Carolina.” "

AKA: how they could slide me through!

"“They told him about North Carolina and how UNC is a nationally known program,” said East Wake coach Jimmy Williams. “Everyone knows that logo. A few more people like Al and they will be up there with the rest of them. How many close games were they involved with in the 4th quarter. I get the feeling that they are pretty close to emerge.”"

this is how he does it

b-ball games, the UNC "national" program propoganda, and a dedicated group of high school coaches that all have carolina blue IV's running into their veins! Who may as well be on the payroll over there!

Two things to keep in mind:

1) Chuck has an amazing eye for talent. Any of our NFL players under him... none that I can think of were 4 stars out of HS. Most were 1 or 2 (Maddux, Cotch, Rivers..as a QB, Hudson, Tulloch was a 3, Reid, etc.etc)

2) Name a single 4 or 5 star recruit at UNC that has ever panned out not named Julius Peppers

Let this class pan out before you judge it. There could be some great players in it

I think someone mentioned it earlier but we aren't taking a full class this year because we will only lose what 12 or 13 players next year and the talent pool in NC next year is suppose to be unreal.
