No fine/court appearance necessary. It was a general "hey, you did a bad thing, now don't do it again" citation.

Not if it's an "accident." And especially not if you're the vice president.

If the (Vice) President does it, it's not illegal.

Anyone see Countdown? Olbermann's caption: Cheney's Got a Gun. I LOL'd.

So hunting is dangerous. Accidents can and do happen obviously.

So why is our vice-president hunting?

Some athletes are forced to sign contracts saying they won't drive wrecklessly or base jump or whatever. Shouldn't the vice-president also avoid dangerous hobbies for his time in office?

I don't get it. Is it standard procedure to lock joe hunter up when joe hunter accidentally shoots someone and the victim doesn't press charges? If it is then yeah, there is an issue. If it isn't then people are blowing this way out of proportion .

I'm still confused why the press is flipping out that they didn't immediately release news of this to the world.

Seems like the kind of thing you'd want to keep a lid on until you know the full scope of the situation and make sure there aren't any miscommunications (what if it was the vp that was shot and someone misunderstood it to be his friend that was shot -- that would look stupid then if they released the wrong info)

it's sort of a boy-who-cried-wolf situation. When you constantly lie and hold back information, then we find out about something you didn't tell us, we assume you were holding back information for the same reasons you always do - because you're doing something wrong

First, it is so amusing that the republican talk-show folks are trying to minimize the shooting accident. I call it the "Brassky Defense"
"Hunters shoot each other all the time, what's the big deal?" "I've been shot before by fellow hunters, and I laughed it off" "Cheney and I shoot ech other all the time, like playing tag"

These politicians keep piling more and more taxes and fees upon us, and then try to get around paying them. Yes it's only a $7.00 bird-tax stamp. But their main weapon is taxation, it should be sacred to them. Nothing encourages tax rebellion more than witnessing the Taxers trying to evade the very taxes they impose.

not to stand up for homeboy or anything

but they paid enough money to cover it all initially, they just billed him for something he already had

ps
if dude was in ICU why are people acting like this is no big deal

i mean, ICU for 3 days is kinda big

Half a page of this thread was spent dicussing the birds instead of the guy who got SHOT IN THE FACE.

I'll admit it, I chuckled.

Wouldn't it have been fun if they did a breathylzer test on the Veep. I'm pretty sure they would've found a few beers in him. In most states, drinking and hunting is a no-no..not sure about Texas.

I believe I read that they were "road-hunting" or shooting critters from their vehicles. I'm not a hunter, but I think that road-hunting canned animals is considered pretty whimpy in the hunting world. Cheney's party shot about 400 pen-raised captive pheasants, Perhaps some real hunters can comment on this.

Cheney's Xmas card sent out last year included this quote from Ben Franklin
"And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?"

Regarding the tax question, yes Cheney had a valid hunting permit but failed to have a Upland Game Bird Stamp on his hunting license. That is why he was fined.

you're basing this assumption on what?

a man with cheney's heart condition is probably on any number of medicaitons, including most likely a form of blood thinner, which precludes him from drinking

...not to stick up for the guy

IT AINT OVER YET

the "peppering" has somehow resulted in a heart attack, some birdshot moved and lodged into the heart, causing a-fib.

please god let cheney have killed a man.
