Well, getting drunk/randomly hooking up doesn't appeal to me very much. And there isn't much else to do, unless you happen to like watching teenagers pretending to be antidisestablishmentarian "artists" (aka emo bands).
It's not THAT bad, but there isn't really anything to do if you're not the clubbing sort (I've had shitty luck finding good evening lounges/cafes), and even if you are, there isn't much variety in the clubbing scene. 2/21/2006 2:52:12 PM |

i mean uptown is pretty cool
very clean and nicely organized with big pretty buildings
but the bar scene in charlotte is a lot of the same shit you can find in raleigh, just repackedged and reformatted. the house parties ive been to at State blow all the ones at UNCC out of the water though
i dunno, if i had to live in either, charlotte would be my choice simply because it's more urbanized and less like a gigantic suburb. raleigh was just way too small for me after growing up in a real city like DC.

and you know whats up...i lived in raleigh for about 5 years...lived in charlotte over 20...charlotte is definitely the shit...women, bars, restaurants, pro sports that dont suck, stores, concerts, etc
only bad thing is the traffic...only things raleigh has over charlotte are:
1. NC State 2. closer to the beach
thats about it 2/21/2006 4:19:09 PM |

Raleigh is not a city
when people think of a NC city they think Charlotte.
Take the capitol out of Raleigh and this place would dry up in 2 seconds 2/21/2006 11:29:38 PM |
jgern815 Veteran 158 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, because being in the state capitol is such an advantage for all those companies in morrisville, cary, and rtp
and clearly, all the national publications must be wrong:

"A generation from now, in 2020, the region will be home to almost two million people, larger than the present-day Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, or New Orleans regions. Each month, another 1,650 people call the Triangle home. In 1970, one of every ten North Carolinians lived in the MSA. Today, one of every seven does. In 2020, one of every six will. People in the MSA are mobile: 55% of the residents in 1990 had moved to their current home since 1985, three of every ten had lived in a different county and one of every six had arrived from out of state.
Population growth in the Raleigh Durham area has outpaced growth in every other NC MSA. From 1970-1995 there was an increase of 430,000 people. From 1995-2020, the area is projected to increase by 902,951 people."
Forgive me that I don't resent Raleigh. 2/22/2006 12:07:15 AM |

Quote : | "oh and NoDa is fucking gay, what kinda hippster idiot came up with that name." |
NoDa is an abbreviated form of North Davidson. It is a small old area about 10 mins North East of Downtown. It has a sweet ass Mellow Mushroom on one of the corners (it pwnts the one in Raleigh), numerous artsy places, a theater, and a ton of other stuff that I can't remember. I practically drove by there nearly every day. They've really done a pretty good job at cleaning up the area surrounding uptown. The ghetto areas are near Garinger High School on the East/North East side, where I grew up, then over on the West side, around West Charlotte High School, and West Meck in and around Freedom Drive and what not. The South side is rich and the North side is pretty nice. Some of the places like Myers Park are very nice and not too far from Downtown.2/22/2006 3:21:12 AM |

"And can't both cities be nice? I enjoy both."
I absolutely agree, I think both are great places to live. Obviously people are going to have preferences. But to flat out say one or the other is shitty is incredibly ignorant.
I'm not positive about Charlotte's rankings, but I imagine they're all right up there too. They might be higher, in fact. The only point I was trying to make is that on a national scale Raleigh-Durham is recognized as being a great place to live. Charlotte is as well. 2/22/2006 1:09:56 PM |
