Newsflash -- our offense is predictable. It's based on running around in circles and waiting for players to make the right reads. That shit doesnt work when the other team is faster than you at every position and is well coached on your system. It didnt work the last 5 times and its not going to now.

Alright, time for my two cents.

We got killed tonight and I stopped watching with five minutes left because I couldn't stand to.

For the people who've already posted their rants and raves, I'll just say a couple things.

1. We're not athletic enough. The way Herb has recruited, we're getting better. But still, we're not up there to compete with the better teams night in and night out. It's why I figure that we got killed on the boards tonight. They jumped a little higher, got there a little faster. They're just more athletic. That said, I think we're too small. We have a couple of big men, yes. But they're big AND slow. We need big and quick. We need length. We need a 6-8 swingman. Much of the game, it felt like we were playing with 3-4 guards, because we probably were.

2. We run our offense based on our personnel. We don't have the guy who can slash to the basket at will and make it hard on the opposition. Hodge is gone. We constantly scream for Gavin to stop trying. Practically all of our players simply feel more comfortable behind the three pt line and like to settle there. I wish we could run more sets where Ced posts up. While watching tonight, I noticed that he does a pretty crappy job of fighting for position. Maybe he doesn't get the ball half of the time because he's simply not open, I dunno. I do know that I hate it when I'm agreeing with Billy Packer over anything when I'm having to listen to him.

3. Carolina played the best game it could've probably ever played. Noel gets a career high and shoots the lights out. I mean, he was hitting some pretty touch fadeaways if he wasn't get left wide open. They usually avg 20 turnovers a night...they probably ended up with somewhere around 8 to 10. They made plenty of shots, and were able to manipulate our lack of speed and attack the basket at will.

4. We're going to get them eventually. Right now, I wouldn't worry about a thing unless I had to face them in the tourney. Otherwise, we're plenty good enough to be good enough on our own without having to compare ourselves to UNC just to make us feel adequate about ourselves. We'll stop being the red headed stepchild to UNC if we would stop acting like it.

3. 3 is related to 1. our guy could be toe to toe with them. If they are confident that they are taller and simply shoot over you, it doesn't matter what you do. A good shooter will make this shot. See tony bethel shooting over everyone. It's definitely not in the category of "woe is me, there isnt anything we could have done!!"

4. This is just wrong. We physically don't have the players to match up at the forward positions. They are too fast. Hence, they can press us on the outside and help quickly if they need to on the inside. Unless brackman, simmons, evtimov, and mcauley all start jumping 1 foot higher and running a lot faster, the matchup nightmare remains.

our players need a permission slip to score or make a good play on defense. i believe we were called out accurately in some newspaper for being too mechanical. Rarely are we creative or instinctual. I think thats one of the reasons UNC was able to defend us so well.
