I agree that EQ was the best. This is coming from someone who played it for 4 years and did everything. All the high end shit. There is literally 30 times the content in EQ (not EQ2) than WoW has. Gear is very important but even in pvp a player can die like in WoW. There is a lot of skill involved. However I haven't played in 3 years so I'm not sure what the gameplay is like now.

Seeing how people still love it... it must be doing well.

I'm definitely going to try http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/

Started playimg SoD this weekend... total nostalgia. Its been so long since I played EQ that I forgot everything with the interface and / commands. I cvan't believe they are allowed to emulate it like this.

I also picked up the 14 day EVE trial this weekend.

It is really really complex and theres alot of stuff to learn. People i've talked to about have said that you really cant even get into the game that far in 14 days. Alot of the higher end stuff takes a really long time.

But they say that that stuff is pretty awesome. And after looking around on various sites talking about these massive battles with hundreds of ships, it looks totally bad ass. Like they warp in 80 ships into an enemy sector and blow the shit out of them. thats fucking awesome. beats the shit out of anything wow has to offer.

The only thing that kind of irked me was the lack of real control over your ship. I would have liked to have joystick combat in fighters and smaller ships.

I've finally gotten past the basics of warping around systems, jumping from system (quite boring IMO), mining asteroids, fighting little bity pirates and drones occasionally floating around the asteroid belts, and doing some of the missions.

I've also picked up a new ship, and I'm training to be able to use an even bigger one.

One thing I really like is the system of advancement. You just train skills to higher levels. There is no leveling your character. You don't have to go out and grind for experience. It just takes a set amount of time to learn a new skill. So if you feel like going out and killing pirates, you can. If you feel like mining, you can. If you feel like running missions for $$, you can. You'll still be leveling up your skills while you do what you want.

The fucking SIZE of the game is amazing. I thought WoW was big. Heh, no. No no no... a kiddie pool compared to the ocean that is the EVE universe. I can understand why the game offers a much longer lifespan in terms of playing time. I feel like I haven't come close to scratching the surface.

EVE is my first pick in terms of picking up a new MMORPG, but I'm not sure i'm willing to pay a monthly rate anymore for a game. I'm not cheap or anything, it's just that they're are some really good free games I could be playing.

The developers of EVE are from Iceland, so you know those guys have plenty of time to come up with a super deep space game with unlimited replay value.

yea eve is fucking huge

i think they just had a new record peak usage of like 23k.

which may not seem like much coming from something like wow, but then again EVE has one server cluster.

So all 23000 people are playing in the same world and thats fucking cool. The level advancement is really nice too. And you continue to level while logged out, so you dont have to poopsock 24/7 to get anywhere. The idea of being able to get on and then just explore and do what i want is really appealing. Depending on how the storyline develops i may look into buying a subscription.

After the pitiful end game experience of WoW, epic space battles sounds awesome.

Another thing i've noticed about it is how the developers seem to pay attention to the players and keep them informed. Instead of blizz GMs "broken as intended" they say "oh ya theres a memory leak somewhere so we're doing this and this and this to track it down".

i mean god damn
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2516089326667783888&q=eve-online
look at that shit

blizzard cant touch it

I'm another EQ1 fan. Played it a couple years, tried EQ2, went back to EQ1, tried WoW, went back to EQ1... It's addictive and completely stays under your skin. Man good times...

I vote EvE

Once you figure out how to make money its just a waiting game to train skills.

You cant beat having 2billion isk and being able to buy pretty much anything in the game u want.

Just wanted to say a big I told you so to those that have tried Eve and are hooked.

It's the only game that I know of that after 3-4 years is rapidly increasing in playerbase.

nano's, PDU's, hardners, plates, shield crap....anything that has a single - when u look at it....

The rifter is best used as a fast attack frig....load it up with nano's and a mwd/ab and most large ships wont be able to hit you without tons of tracking...

Its not really a singular conquest game. It's main thing is space combat, and that can range from simple raids on popular mining sights, protecting mineral bearing frigates from pirates, being those mineral bearing frigates, to all out corporation wars where you have people going at it in monumental battles for trading supremacy. Things of that nature is what i'm told.

One of the best things about EvE is that it doesnt require the straight hours to advance such as WoW. You can sit down, fly around for 15-20 minutes, do some stuff, kill some rats, do some pvp, log off and feel good and your skills still train. With WoW you gotta sit down and stay in an instance for 2+ hours to get a shot at possible loot. Also EvE is alot more open ended than WoW, you pretty much have set classes and ways of doing things in WoW, but in EvE you can do anything, you can specialize in one area or, like some of the older players, do them all.

As for the scope of EvE vs. Wow lets look at it like this.

Think of each city in WoW with a flightpath comparable to a system in EvE. Each have numerous things to do and things to explore and goals to accomplish. Now take the number of those cities in WoW and compare them to the 5000+ systems in EvE, all with 20,000 people inhabiting the same server. You can then begin to see just how massive EvE is.

My main problem in EVE is the lonely lonely feeling you get when playing it. You'll never, unless you are in a corporation, see other players. It's not like when you're sitting in Orgrimmar in WoW and you see people running around everywhere. In EVE the environment is so huge it's rare to see another player and if you do, they're just a small blip on your radar.

thats why you join a corp....MMORPG after all. if you want SP play freelancer or homeworld.

And org is the equivalent to Jita or Yulai....if you want go sit next to a station there, like DED X in Jita, and there will be a minimum of 20-30 ships coming and going at any time.

Thats another difference in WoW and EvE, in wow unless it was raiding night there would be no one on TS or Vent....In eve there are ppl on TS and Vent 24/7, so you will always have someone to talk to....I believe there are even a few free open public TS/Vent eve servers...as well as EvE radio website.

im thinkin about givin EvE a shot. i can't access any sites about it from work b/c they're all blocked. when you say there's stuff to do in all the cities like WoW, is it on foot or is everything in the ship?

that video on google looked pretty cool

It's all in a ship. But, the sheer amount of shit you can do while in it is pretty amazing. As is the SIZE of space. Just warping around a system makes you feel small. When you start jumping between systems, and you open up the map to actually get a feel for where you are... you realize just how pathetically tiny you ass is.

I mined for a while, then got a ship with some nice weapons, and now I'm floating around killing pirates. At first it didn't really seem fun, but now I'm having a blast.

its kinda funny when you look at the map for the first time and theres like a shitload of stars

and then you're like thats purty.

but then you realize that each of those stars is a system and its like whoa.

Really the grind in this game is money and not skills. You can't make money while offline, unlike training skills, and you need money for buying new crap. But basically you just need to grind money when you need to get something new, and even then it doesn't feel like grinding.

Also, I couldn't imagine playing this game solo. Moreso than ever, this is a game to be played within a corporation and with friends.

yeah, i'm not sure if i'm going to do the 14 day trial just yet though. im gettin ghost recon after work today so i'll be playin that most likely.

EvE sounds like a game i might switch to though. i haven't played WoW since december and i'm still paying the fees. EvE sounds like I could come on and play sporadically and still train etc.

Don't really care about eve vs. wow comparisons.

I just needed to know that all the action was centered around player vs player.

Which is cool

But about as boring as pure PvE.
