And here we have another example of how big an idiot you are.
I wasn't saying that frats are anywhere near as bad as the other organization I mentioned. I was merely saying that we generally don't require that somebody be a member of an organization before they can criticize it.
I have never heard anyone say that I was not allowed to speak poorly of any of the following because I was not actively involved:
democratic party libertarian party nazi party communist party NAMBLA al Qaeda green party any other organization, ever
Why do you think you're so special?
Quote : | "Was there someone that could have done a better job than me? Probably so, but at the end of the day, there were just a handful of people willing to make the commitment, so what do you do?" |
Oh, sure. But what I will maintain is that there were vastly more qualified candidates running than the ones supported by the IFC, so the issue of better people abstaining is moot.4/7/2006 2:27:05 AM |

The point remains: you do not know anything about greek organizations.
You can go on the Green Party's web page and find out excatly what they are about. Everone who joins the green party does so because they care about the environment. The same comparison can be made for NAMBLA. The examples you used all represent SPECIALIZED INTERESTS.
However -you can't just visit a website or go to a protest hoping to understand an entire organization of 1,500 people. Each have their own reasons for joining. Some join for the parties- others join for the leadership opportunities. Yes, there are greeks who are idiots - no more or no less than any other group. 4/7/2006 10:44:35 AM |

criticize all you want, it just furthers your ignorance, because once again... you dont know jack shit about what fraternities do, or are about. wow, youve attended a couple functions. that does not make you a credible reference to talk shit about the entire greek system. so con't to denounce ALL of greek life based on pure speculation, becase we all know you are a viable source for such claims. i love stereotypes.4/7/2006 11:59:32 AM |

Bullshit. The Green Party has more than just that in its platform -- what about marijuana folks?
Besides, I mentioned the Democratic party, and they encompass lots of interests.
Face it. This standard you guys are trying to apply to fraternities and NOTHING else is ridiculous. You can comment on them from the outside.
Quote : | "wow, youve attended a couple functions. that does not make you a credible reference to talk shit about the entire greek system." |
Well, to hear you talk, the only thing that would make somebody credible is to join the damn thing. I'm not seeing the type of person to join a frat being the type to criticize it much. That must be awfully convenient for your PR.

Most people seem either already to have made up their mind on the greeks in a way a thread wont change. So you either view Langley’s spam against the rules e-mails via greek organizations good or bad already. I still find it funny that he brought it on himself by allowing an e-mail to go to Quick asking him to vote for Langley, and that when asked about the going door to door soliciting votes without permission he told the bureaucracy that he doesn’t play by their rules. The chalking where rain can’t hit, putting up clotheslines which technically wasn’t allowed, and chalking too close to the polling place don’t really bother me… but I think everyone’s already made up their minds on how they feel.
It would be cool if this thread could discuss Election Results -who won and what their platforms were etc. Like Yasin… I wanted her to win, but I still don’t know why she didn’t get the Arts endorsement.
Also does anyone know if tonight they are just discussing langelys violations, or are they making a decision on it? And if he’s disqualified who would people rather see win Quick or Cody? And who do you think between those 2 did better?

Heh, that's a bit interesting. I see Sara atleast 2-3 times a week, depending on classes. She told me that her opponent is involved with University Theatre, and anyway, they asked both candidates to come and basically make their case on why the Arts (Department? University Theatre? Can't remember what group exactly) should endorse them.
She showed up and made her case. HE DIDN'T EVEN SHOW. And they endorsed him. She was frustrated b/c she honestly felt that if Univ. Theatre wanted to go ahead and endorse him b/c he was involved with it, and such, that okay, she was fine with that. But she could have been using that time for other important things, esp if the Arts were gonna endorse him no matter what. She was frustrated that he didn't even make an effort to come and do his thing.
But that's just political run-around. >.<4/7/2006 3:54:13 PM |

Despite all these, and Langleys offering of executive positions to have this swept through quickly, I still think senate/election com will just discuss it tonight to say they've discussed it and not take any actions other than putting him on notice or something equally meaningless.4/7/2006 4:37:41 PM |

5pm Tonight, 2nd Floor Witherspoon Student Center
Election Results will be provided given that no appeal is filed against the election and complaints are dealt with. Speaking from Will Langley's side, so long as everyone agrees in that meeting that the results can come out tonight, we will be dropping all the complaints we have. Otherwise if the other side wants to bicker, we will bicker some more. There are no existing complaints left against Langley since all that was dealt with at last night's meeting.
Come on out if you're interested. I will have my laptop so I will post the results when and if they are announced. I'm hoping that they will be... this doesn't need to drag on past Easter. 4/12/2006 4:19:46 PM |

First election was 1st L, 2nd Q, 3rd C which knocked C out who in turn endorsed Q.
The issue I was most interested in was revitalizing hillsborough street and going for more of a college feel area than a sucky area. Atleast it got enough attention that maybe it'll be addressed somewhat, or atleast be though about ppl even if the SBP doesn't go for it.
More runoffs aren't surprising, seems like SG can drag on forever, but SBP I think was the last election of any interest. 4/12/2006 6:22:19 PM |

w/ senate/election com screwing up the first round, then the 2nd round actually works, then discussions, then a 3rd round (runoffs), then more discussion today & results released (with some other less interesting than SBP positions still with run offs to pick up on after easter break), it seems like this was probably one of the most taxing/lengthy campaigns and biggest losses someone could have as a SBP candidate.
atleast when cody lost he endorsed someone who might not have won without his support, hopefully that'll get hillsborough street revitalization onto the drawing board.
but it was a long campaign season. even though someone has to lose i still i feel sorry for anyone who went through that only to lose.
(even though SG doesn't matter much & things like reopening of the tunnel & the tdub easter egg hunt will probably have more dramatic impacts on ppls lives than a SG election)
