So I just watched the "behind the scenes" video, hoping it'd be good for a nice informational tidbit or maybe a few laughs.
It is, without a doubt, the least funny attempt at comedy I've ever seen in my life. I was going to say that The Wiggles are more entertaining, but it would be an insult to even put them in the same category. 12/10/2006 10:43:44 AM |

my copy has some major issues with not loading and just freezing during gameplay. did some searching and found this:
http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=8739
seems like i'm not the only one. anyone on here having those kind of problems? monkey wrench was the first to do it. heart-shaped box won't even load. sometimes when i'm scrolling through the playlists, some songs don't load for preview which signals "bad news"
add summary of that link: seems like it covers various models/ages of ps2s so the consensus conspiracy theory is disc pressing issue

I've had one lockup in the history of playing both games. It was last week with GH2, but I forget the song. I've played all the songs multiple times with no problems until that one, though, and no problems in ~4 hours of play since. 12/13/2006 2:05:39 AM |

how recently did you get it? if it's a defect with the disc, then you should be able to exchange it from wherever you bought it for a new copy. 12/14/2006 12:53:35 AM |

What exactly does a 5 gold star rating mean? I've gotten that on a couple of songs on medium, and thought for sure it meant I didn't miss a note, but then I got 5 gold stars on a song I know I missed at least 1 note. Is it just 99% or more, better than a certain score or what? 12/21/2006 6:33:32 PM |
ussjbroli All American 4518 Posts user info edit post |
gold should be a perfect, you may have accidentally hit an early note, but as long as you corrected and actually hit the note it will still give you a perfect.

I finally had a breakthrough and made it through Carry Me Home and Psychobilly Freakout on Expert about two weeks ago, and I've been sitting at 39/40 ever since the day after that. Freebird is mocking me, but I'm out of town for the holidays and won't get a chance to play for two weeks... I'm gonna get rusty and take even longer to pass it. The three minutes of nonstop wankery at the end always kills me at some point.
So now that I'm pretty much through the main songs, which bonus songs are really fun to play? So far I know about Trogdor, Dethklok and Buckethead, and I've found a few others that are pretty cool, like The Light That Blinds and Less Talk, More Rokk. But which other ones should I try out next?
It seems like they cover a pretty huge range of difficulty on Expert... I can't get past 25% on a few random ones I tried, but one of them I got 99% on the first try. 12/22/2006 2:00:24 AM |

Personally, I like riffy stuff with lots of naturally-timed hammer-ons and pull-offs. Anything includes harmonized lead lines is good.
The bonus songs I enjoy (besides, Less Talk More Rokk/Thunderhorse/Jordan) are:
Raw Dog Gemini Push Push (Lady Lightning) - awesome riff Laughtrack The New Black - a bit Dursty but the riffy parts are good Six - fun but wears your arm out Soy Bomb Fall or Pangaea - I love Valient Thorr, but this one is a little long and tedious for me usually 12/22/2006 3:13:42 AM |

Six and Jordan are the hardest songs in the game. It says a lot that I saw a thread on the Guitar Hero forum, "How far have you gotten on Jordan(Expert)?". 12/22/2006 12:21:53 PM |

Having played a lot of Guitar Hero II with my brother at home over the holidays and returning home to play GH1, I will make the following observations
1. GH1 has much harder songs on medium when you get to the higher setlists. I got 5-stars on all of GH2 medium setting with relative ease. GH1 took more work and I still haven't hit some of the hardest yet (crossroads for example) 2. GH2 doesn't slowly work you into harder levels of play as well as GH1 does. For example, the first setlist on GH1's hard level has a few orange/5th fret notes...the 1st setlist on GH2's hard mode has them all over the place (and those fuckers even throw in some orange on medium co-op modes) 3. It's much easier (or so it seems to me) to hammer on/off in GH2 4. GH2's bonus (buyable tracks) kick the shit out of GH1's bonus tracks.
I've only been playing for about a week and a half, but it's a lot of fun. I'm getting better at the hard stuff, but about shit my pants when ever I even look at expert levels. I wish GH1 had the practice modes like 2 does. 12/28/2006 2:08:12 PM |

When you're transitioning into Hard difficulty, the most natural way I found to get used to all five frets (also coming from a non-guitar player) was to reposition my hand so my default position is on the last four frets. Then, except for parts where all the action is on the first four, I would typically use my index finger to slide back and forth between the first two and use my other three fingers for the other three. It's a lot easier to stretch your index finger between two frets than your pinky finger, while keeping the other three fingers more or less stationary.
Then, once you get more used to it, you'll find natural-feeling ways to move your hand between the first-four and last-four positions at the beginning and end of riffs, as necessary.12/31/2006 5:25:18 PM |

they had some timing problems in GH1. they fixed them for GH2. it's probably why you found medium on GH2 to be easier than GH1. you got used to easy hammers/pulls.1/1/2007 2:54:06 PM |

if you can put a finger on each of the first four buttons (GRYB), then you can do what i do. all i do is place my hand on the first four buttons like normal and as soon as i see any orange i just slide my whole hand up one button so my fingers are placed (RYBO), then when i see green i slide back down. when i have to do it too quick to do all that, i just do what the guy above said and place (RYBO) and stretch the index finger down to hit green.
hopefully that made sense and is somewhat helpful.1/1/2007 8:50:33 PM |

Whew...I just beat Guitar Hero I on expert. I got it over Thanksgiving and started on medium. I played pretty much non-stop for a few weeks and worked my way up to 29/30 on expert. I couldn't get "Cowboys from Hell."
I stopped playing for a few weeks, and I picked it up again today and nailed it on my first try (well it wasn't my first try overall, but my first try today).
Guitar Hero II is my next conquest. 1/14/2007 2:49:37 PM |
