again, this is one of those things that can probably only be understood if you've ever served/bartended. fair enough? 5/2/2006 7:57:37 PM |

she said and i quote
Quote : | "Yes, a waitress should go greet the table within a reasonable amount of time after you sit down- I agree with this 100%. However; on Monday nights after 11pm this might not happen due to the sheer number of people in there. While you may be a good customer by only drinking one beer at the bar and wanting the waitress to wait on you after that, MOST PEOPLE (esp. on Mondays) don't give a shit about being waited on they just want somewhere to sit." |
it looked like it was directed at me especially when she was talking about "you may be a good customer by only drinking one beer at the bar...". the reason why i mentioned why do people keep bringing it up is b/c i'm talking about bad service on a non-packed night, so why even begin discussing and trying to reason why slow service would occur on a very busy night. i understand why service would be slow on a busy night. i started this thread based on discussing crappy service on a night in which there weren't a great deal of people there. i know that one can have many a douchy customer in the waitressing and bartending industry, and it can be a stressful job. guess what, a lot of other jobs are just as stressful if not more, yet i don't hear nearly the excuses from these people. as a customer to any business i want results not excuses.

^what night was it? And how do you know it was not busy? It might not look busy, but maybe the manager had just cut a bartender...maybe a waitress got cut and another waitress just added 3 or 4 more tables to her section?
Thats the only reason why people aren't listening when you say it wasn't busy.... 5/3/2006 11:01:42 AM |

^^^^ oh i see why you're so adamant about this. you're one of the beer goddesses there. i bet you work your butt off, and you don't like it when people are critical of the job you do. i understand why you might think i'm criticizing you then. i'm not though. i'm criticizing the place, and how i got bad service. again though you are trying to give excuses for why the service sucked. there shouldn't be excuses. it was on a friday night. there were many tables open inside and out on the patio area. the bar was definitely not full. also for the most part people weren't standing in the aisles. it looked like there were plenty of people behind the bar and that there were plenty of waitresses working. if not then well that sucks, b/c i've been in that same situation where you have to cover for one or more people. i didn't complain about it, i just worked my ass off more.
Quote : | "Thats the only reason why people aren't listening when you say it wasn't busy...." |
well if you look at a number of posts in this thread, a number of people have had bad service by the flying saucer. bottom line is i said in my first post that it was my first time going there, and the bartenders were rude, and the service sucked. i know things happen so i will try this place out another time. i hate to say i'm never going to try a place again, just b/c of one bad experience. that place has an excellent beer selection.

you just inspired me to go to Whole Foods and try to find those two, upon looking them up and checking out their websites. i found the St. Bernardus Abt 12, but i couldn't find the Tripel Karmeliet. i substituted it for a 6-pack of Spaten Optimator which has 7.2% alc/vol. i've tried regular Spaten before, but never had the Optimator brew. 5/3/2006 6:47:25 PM |

optimator is a good, relatively cheap dopplebock. tripel karmeleit is at peace street market in 4 packs every time im there, give them a shot. i picked up a de ranke xx, allagash victoria, and a piraat at whole foods today, cant wait for the weekend. 5/3/2006 11:53:15 PM |

ok so i'm gonna change the discussion of this thread right now from the service there, to great beers, mainly b/c i'm tired of arguing. i'll say that the St. Bernardus Abt 12 that i had tonight was pretty darn tasty for a 10% alc/vol. most of the time the beers in the big wine type bottles (1 Pint and ~10 fl. oz.), such as Ommegang, Von De Dieu, etc. aren't exactly the most tasteful beers in the world. especially when they have a high alcohol content, but i was pleasantly surprised with the taste of this beer. i tried Carolina Spring Bock, and Molson XXX for the first time at Mitch's tonight. despite hating Canadian beer in general, the triple X was pretty damn good. definitely not like regular Molson or Labatt Blue (which i nearly vomit after drinking two of LB's due to the taste ) the Molson XXX is 7.3% alc/vol. no wonder i couldn't find it before, despite hearing how good it was from a fair amount of people. i'm glad they raised the alcohol content here in NC. 5/4/2006 2:42:10 AM |

Personally this is my favorite bar in Raleigh
My crew and I go 1 - 2 times per week, just to chill for a bit right after work
We have our fav waitresses: Mindy, kristamcneil, and Serrin being on the top of our list
We usually chill in the back room on one of the couches, grab a bite to eat and have 3 - 4 beers while we chat
I've never had a huge problem with the service, but yes occasionally it is a little slow, but you're not supposed to be there to slam down brew to get shitfaced. You're there to enjoy the beer. The Saucer is a much more chill atmosphere than many other places in raleigh.
Here's a tip: Have the next beer you want ordered before you finish the one you're working on. That way you're not without a beer (and whining about it) and you give your server a little slack.
PS: If you've never had their spinach artichoke dip you're missin out. Holy Shit! 5/4/2006 9:51:51 AM |

I know I'm never going to flying saucer again, the only time I ever went they fucked up my sister's bill by double-charging her credit card, it took her months to straighten it out because the management is just as retarded as the staff. And yeah, the service was very slow and infrequent that night. I get my beer faster at a damn Applebees. 5/4/2006 10:43:33 PM |

then dont come back. sorry to lose your business. i guess that makes one less peson to be waited on while i am there, oh well. marissa hooked it up tonite, as usual. i think half of you people just don't know how to conduct yourselves at a bar.

^as I said before, half of the people posting in this thread probably come on Monday nights where after 10pm it gets crazy and waitresses literally do not get their beer for a good 3-6 minutes from the bar so there's no way it will hit your table after 1 min......and like someone else said....have your order ready, or know what type you like at least so we can speed up the process.
^^oh and for the credit card thing.....do you really think that is management's fault alone? Yes, it sucks that the card was double charged by whomever (and I understand being upset about that- anyone would be) but usually card issues are dealt with by credit card companies...all management can do is make the call......you sis should have called her card company and halted the payment first
[Edited on May 5, 2006 at 8:16 AM. Reason : credit card]
