I couldn't agree more.

Moving away can be by choice and not by choice.

I moved away from NC because my professional career is better off in Miami. I don't think that alone makes me successful.

A lot of times people move from place to place because they are insecure and fail to find their place in a particular area. These types of people try to use their movement as a facade that they are excelling.

A lot of times people move from place to place because of their jobs or they get married.

And most people from the North don't generally hate people from the South. Vice versa. I think its sad that so many people overanalyze the differences b/w regions within the US.

I've been in Nevada in the middle of July, when its 110 degrees outside. There was no humidity though, so it felt like it was 90. I'll take that any day over 95 degrees and high humidity in NC, ugh.

I moved here from the North.

My Mom (who is from NY) told me that Southern men were far better than Northern men and seeing as my boyfriend up North was a jerk I figured I'd give the South a try.

She was right- Southern men are where it's at!

I wouldn't move back North if you paid me. I've truly enjoyed living down here- people are so friendly, willing to help. That Mayberry crap is just that- crap.

if theyd stage a pogrum on all the scientologists, then tampa-st. pete would be the perfect place to live in america. see, its situated on the gulf just so that hurricanes rarely actually hit it.

I've gone out with girls in NC and girls in NY. Guess what, most of them from both places have been bitches.

Being a bitch or a jerk is all about how you were raised, not where you were raised

I miss Mayberry
Sitting on the porch drinking
Ice cold Cherry Coke
Where everything is black and white
Picking on a six string
Where people pass by and you call
Them by their first name
Watching the clouds roll by

my girlfriend is from nyc. she thinks it's odd or unusual when people do random friendly things, like wave at you for no reason when you're out sittin on the front porch, or when a stranger holds the door and says something like "sure is a nice, day, isn't it?"

conversely, i was raised in teh mountains of nc, and i think it's odd how up north, you can walk through an entire supermarket without making eye contact with ANYONE, not even the cashier who rings you up (of course, in the town i grew up in, i can't go to wal-mart without seeing someone i know).

when she first moved into my apartment, she thought it was presumptious of teh neighbors to come over and introduce themselves. i thought it was just good manners. she finds it absurd that if so-and-so's mom has cancer, everone makes a point of asking "how's your mom?" every time the see so-and so. she says it's nobody's business how so-and-so's mom is.

in my experience, people from teh south tend to care about teh well being of everyone around, while people frm teh north seem to be taught to keep to themselves more.
i guess that's why it's called "southern hospitality"

^^^^Hardly a widespread phenomenon. When I've been on subways in the North, you hardly ever see guys give up seats unless the woman is visibly pregnant (and then maybe/maybe not). I've seen guys bowl through women to get to a seat...

^equal rights

also, I didn't know that I hated southerners until I moved here from Pennsylvania.

and UJustwait is a complete retard. Winter up north last longer and is more harsh. I'd rather deal with this southern bullshit. Although, I could do without the fucking temperature variance.

oh and most "southern hospitality" is just fake niceness and is really stupid sometimes. Once they find out you're a Godless baby killer they normally dont like you much.

people don't have to live somewhere for them to think they know everything there is to know about it

hell, they don't even have to visit the place

their opinion and personal frame of refference is usually enough to make it true for them

well, at least for people who've never lived in another other region of the country, that's the often the case

it's easy to hate and talk shit about something youve never experienced firsthand when youre so afraid of change and the unfamiliar that you'd 'never want to live anywhere else'

i mean, im no expert, but I can at least say that I've lived in a foreign country for 2 years, and I've lived in the Northeast, Southeast, and Southwestern portion of the US for extended amounts of time. My opinion isn't any more valid than anyone else's, but I at least have a lot of room for comparison.

I rag on the East Coast a lot, mostly because I spent the majority of my life there, and I'm excited to be living in a new city. But both the NE and SE are great places to live depending on what youre looking for. I might even move back someday. But this whole North/South bullshit is pretty lame when you consider how homogenized both regions have become in the last few years.

well considering I've lived here almost 9 months and my opinion has chaged quite a bit about the state, i'd have to agree with you. When i first got here, I thought I knew everything about what life is like here, now I realize I still have a lot to learn. That still doesn't change the fact that I like California better.

Not sure if UJustWait84's rant was directed at me, but I can see his sentiments.

I for one have lived in NC, the midwest, and mid-Atlantic. I've visited every major Eastern city. I don't profess to know everything about every place I've been, but I know enought to know I wouldn't want to live in NYC. Too paved, stressful, and dirty for me, but I know some people prefer that atmosphere. I simply disputed the image of the NYC subway system as the cradle of chivalry.

It actually wasn't

It's more directed at the people from the south who've never lived anywhere else that perpetuate this stupid argument

NYC is cool and all and a fun place to visit, but it's too fast and complex for me.

i think a lot of northern animosity comes from the fact that southerners are so arrogant or xenophobic they can't bring themselves to vote a yankee in for president - only other southerners(LBJ,Carter) or non-southerners who act like cowboys (Bush43, Reagan)

if two non-southerns go at it (Bush41 vs Dukakis) the one who is "less Yankee" gets elected

that's why Hillary has 0% chance and the dems really need to go with a southern governor
