i say again: two 500 pounders is a fairly light hit in fixed-wing airstrike terms. it gets much, much more severe than that. last time i checked, the smallest bombs currently in our inventory were 500 lbs (with 1000 and 2000 being the most common other varieties, although i've seen some talk of bringing back the 250lb unit for counterinsurgency stuff)

After that, you generally saw him with something obscuring the background. Best not to give people ideas.

Might he have been outside when the bomb exploded? Or perhaps he was in a different section of the compound when it blew up? He may have been killed by falling rubble, or the shockwave, or bleeding to death, or he hit his head? There are a thousand scenarios that allow for one to die in a blast without being blown to bits.

My earlier comment was directed more towards those that almost seem to disbelieve that Zarqawi is really dead. However, I think that Zarqawai's death was a step in the 'Let's get the hell out of Iraq' direction. Separate from the issue of whether or not we should be in Iraq in the first place, Iraq is not currently in a condition for the US to immediately exit--the Iraqi government and security forces are not able to single handedly deal with the insurrgents. As an aid in reducing/removing the insurgency, killing theZarqawi puts Iraq closer to being controllable by native forces and closer to the US leaving.
