I dont even see why they felt the need to make them CGI. It seems like they could have had a better look and overall feel with actual people in makeup/constumes. 12/14/2007 3:20:21 PM |

I just got back from it. It was pretty good, although I agree that the cgi people were a bit much. I had read the wiki article about the original short story, so I was surprised when the movie used a different ending. I think that the original ending would have been much better, but considering how dumb most of the American audience is today I wouldn't be surprised if it flew over their heads. 12/14/2007 4:20:14 PM |

I agree that the CGI was pretty bad, and obviously the movie added elements of family and self sacrifice to appeal to women.
What I did like is that, like science fiction movies frequently do, it addressed our greatest fears about technology. Whereas a lot of older science fiction movies worried about the after effects of nuclear radiation (in the context of the cold war), this one worries about the effects of our genetic engineering etc. And it definately captured the psychological tension. Also the use of hand cameras greatly magnified the eerieness (Blair Witch Project style).
But damn... I couldn't agree more that the infected people needed to look more like PEOPLE instead of generic movie zombies. 12/14/2007 7:47:05 PM |

Someone obviously had to bring it up as a major issue and distraction. How they could just ignore that and send it to theaters looking like that is beyond me. 12/14/2007 8:05:37 PM |

It seems like the ripped the CGI guys from Blade Trinity, but worse.
It was pretty tense all the way through, but I def. think it could have been much better... worth seeing still. 12/15/2007 3:34:07 AM |

do you think that the infected set that trap for him.... as in they moved that mannequin (frank...or whatever his name was) to get him to walk into the puddle and they set a trap just like the ones he set... so they learned from him.
or do you think he was just that crazy that he didn't notice he was in front of the hive and was too busy going crazy at frank to notice he was walking into one of his own traps?
i think you could argue either case.
what do you think?

my dad and i had the same debate in the car on the way home. he thought they set the trap, but i thought that was preposterous, considering how primitive they had behaved throughout the course of the movie. my feeling was that he had just started goin a little crazy and forgotten that he'd set that trap up earlier. of course, after readin some reviews, it seems people think that the infected had shown signs of evolving and learning from him, so i guess if you noticed that too, then you could think they learned the trap from him. i didnt really notice it though, and that trap seems way too complicated for them to have set up one night. i just picture them lobbing cables over things to create a pulley and i start to get skeptical. 12/15/2007 10:49:38 AM |

I thought it was good. The tension in some of the scenes was done REALLY well. They drew it out long past when anyone was ready to jump. With the supposedly short attention spans we're supposed to have I thought it was pretty brave of them to draw it out that much in some scenes. I thought the ending was good, regardless of how the novella ends. I thought they were going to go for the really F'd up ending though for a bit. 12/15/2007 10:52:53 AM |

I thought that the dark seekers set the trap. I suppose he could have set the trap and the infected moved the mannequin. If they had no involvement, it seems like too big of a coincidence that that one infected guy just happened to be in the building right next to teh trap waiting with 3 dogs. And he always was where ever Neville was. 12/15/2007 11:50:43 AM |

The first hour of the movie was really cool. I loved how quiet most of the movie was and the tension before we even saw a vampire was great (too bad they looked shitty, as well as the rats). The movie had a couple of cool tricks though especially the first cut when he wakes up after he gets rescued and he thinks he sees his family but on the next cut its just the woman and the boy. I also got freaked out when he sees Frank for the first time outside of the video store and he moves his head. 12/15/2007 12:12:44 PM |

right before that whole trap scene when he was driving in the car and he saw the frank, did anyone else see it move? i swear it looked at him and moved it's head. Made me think that maybe they learned they could wear clothes to protect themselves but idk, maybe it didnt move. 12/15/2007 12:14:49 PM |

This movie had some scary elements, but the unresolved plot points were absolutely retarded. (Spoiler Alert)
It was OBVIOUS that the one "lead" CGI (I like that's what we're calling them now) was trying to get revenge on Will Smith for what he had done. The CGI was smiling when he was trying to break into the glass at the end.
It was OBVIOUS that he had set the trap (and apparently he leashed up some dogs to release onto Will Smith?)
So, I guess it's OBVIOUS that they would completely not wrap up or address this plot point.
This movie would have been so more badass had it been made in the 90s like it was supposed to, with Schwarzenegger and Ridley Scott at the helm.

One thing that I really liked about this movie was Will Smith's acting. I admittedly haven't seen all of his movies so my opinion could be worthless, but every time I see him in a movie he's playing the same old "oh hellz naw I'm too good for this shit!" bad boy. But in this movie, he did a very good job of conveying loneliness, depression, and paranoia. I didn't give the man's acting ability enough credit, and now I know better. 12/15/2007 3:30:49 PM |

it was worth seeing once
definitely not worth buying the DVD or seeing it twice
usually i dont care about CGI, but what virus can allow the people to get extended opening jaws like the mummy soldiers in The Mummy Returns had
and how the hell does a virus cause impecable building climbing skills
and was the head-butting glass wall guy at the end their leader or something? He kinda just threw people around like 'gtfo let me do my shit'
best part of the movie was him talking the shrek dialogue and the batman trailer

The ending sucked. It was the feel good ending I feared.
At first I thought the trap was set by the 'living people' (not the full vampires) from the book. Obviously, that completely and totally failed to pan out. I kept waiting for the girl and the kid to turn against Neville. 12/15/2007 7:51:47 PM |
