I only have ever thought about stiffing people that are assholes to me when trying to get my attention when busy and cant wait 1 minute from the time they enter the bar. sometimes i add up the totals wrong of shit over like 50 bucks and guess a few dollars high but that isnt often.

I always start a tab when I go to a bar. no matter how long I plan to be there. Typically they forget to add drinks rather than add extras.

Last time I was at the bar. I think the special was $2 coronas. I think I had 5 before we left. when I got my tab it was $4. I was like ok waitress you get a good tip. She's always treated me good so I reward her. Plus she's hot and wears low cuts shirts so it's like a double bonus

i used to bartend and i have seen a fellow bartender do the liquor in the straw thing. but, in his defense he did it because the person claimed the drink was weak (it wasn't) and didn't want to pay for a double shot. the server took the drink back...no more complaints.

This has always been my experience. It also appears to be easier for them to intentionally give you freebies if you're using a tab.

There was a shaved-head guy working at a bar I won't name a few months back, he was great about making sure we got free drinks. There were usually four of us, we came in at least once a week and tipped according to the schedule I described above. He even told us, "Look, guys, it'll be easier for me to hook you up if you buy pitchers instead of bottles and start a tab instead of paying each drink." So we did, and I'll be a son of a bitch if in the next two months he didn't give us $300 in alcohol at no charge.

I'd say the high point was when he came to a table full of six people and said, "Do any of you guys want a shot on the house? Wait, why am I even asking?" And then ten minutes later showed up with six double shots of Wild Turkey.

If a bartender does their best to take care of you then you should tip them well. Period.
