I saw this again tonight and it was still awesome.

great to see the irony at such times as when baldwin is like "the ring lets women know your cock works" and damon is all "YEA, IT WORKS hehehe"

***SPOILER***

I think the preview gave away the ending of the movie if you were paying attention. At the end of the preview they showed every 5 seconds for the past few weeks, they show Walhberg's shooting someone. Since he hadn't killed anyone yet, I knew he was going to kill someone toward the end, and when Damon was the only one left after the elevator shootout it was too easy to foresee.

Did this kinda ruin the very end of the movie for anyone else?

I know that happens alot, but the thought was still in my head because I had seen it.

I was hoping there'd be something different, but if you see the same scene 500 times in previews its gonna be in the back of your mind, whether it makes the final cut or not.

This scene did, and knowing about it took a little of the luster off the end for me.

Everyone might not be as vocal as me but they damn sure are just as superficial. There is no way a hot rich guy with a sick pad in Boston is going to settle for that girl. Wouldn't happen.

Shoot, I know exactly where his pad is. His pad is so close to the clubs I promote at. I'd be bringing different women home every night if I was him... not a boxer-nosed girl like that. Haha

from what Saddamizer said

*******SPOILER*******************

from what Saddamizer said , you didnt have to see the preview to assume Damon was gunna get capped. I kinda just had a feeling that marky mark had been gone for a while and he was to bad ass not to show up and bust a cap. It was a little obvious that he would kill him but I really liked the ending and YES the envelope went to marky mark with evidence about damon.

didn't she say something like "you're not the only one who lies" or something when she heard the cd? I took that as meaning she lied about the baby's daddy (and she didn't look especially pleased to give him the info). She was also especially sad at his funeral.

What was in the envelope? It seemed to me like proof of his identity was in there, but I want to know what. I think there will be some explanation in a director's cut.

Why did the psychiatrist get so angry when she heard the CD?
I know I'm missing something, but I didn't see why she freaked out on him like that. How did she even understand what was going on in the tapes?

What was the deal with Walberg at the end?
Was he exacting revenge for a personal vendetta or was there something deeper there?

Why the hell did Vera Farmiga's (the psychiatrist) accent fade in and out like the tides?
That shit bothered me, even though her acting was acceptable barring that.

Am I the only one that DIDN'T like the ending? For me it ruined an otherwise perfectly great movie.

I mean I wasn't necessarily expecting the typical happy hollywood ending where the guy gets the girl and the bad guy dies, but I just thought it was ridiculous how they chained together like 10 people getting shot at the end. I was halfway expecting Baldwin to step out of the elevator and shoot Walburg for absolutely no reason whatsoever. And that really wouldn't have affected my (low) opinion of the ending that much.

I was much less impressed with the ending that the rest of the film, Nacho.

I dealt with it as part of a great movie that bothers me, because I would have preferred the whole thing to end with Matt Damon and the other mole walking away together. But, a director's cut will probably make the end run a little more smoothly, methinks.

bgmims you must not have seen very many other scorsese movies on DVD. i think the Aviator has the only deleted scene (singular) of any scorsese movie i've ever seen on dvd. basically what you see in the theater is how he wanted the final product.

i kind of doubt this dvd will be different but you might get some commentary that clears up some foggy issues.

Black Mass by Dick Lehr & Gerald O'Neill

just started this book, but early on it seems to share some basic plot elements w/ The Departed. South boston ruthless irish boss. fbi connection who grew up in south boston, younger than crime boss and had encounter w/ him when he was young. boss becomes informant for fbi agent for mutual gain.

interesting real life story to go w/ scorcese's/original chinese guy's fictional story

I think the ending was in line with other Scorsese movies. IT seems typical that his characters either die or get their shit fucked up in the end of the movies. Very few truly happy endings, its more like "well a lot of shit happened and now we have to deal with it"

saw it tonight. i liked it but im a huge scorsese fan so i think i was expecting better. although i was watching a bootleg that i got in ecuador so thats prolly why. the video quality was perfect but the soundtrack got craaazy towards the end, random gunshots, music so loud you can hardly hear the dialogue, so im thinking it was b/c it was some crazy preliminary cut or something. it was definitely distracting for when things got intense.

jack nicholsons character was great. definitely had som lol irl moments.

leo was great as always in scorseses movies.

and yea i was wondering a/b the end too with mark takin out matt damon. i was thinking that either a, hes still a detective so he was just plain able to pice it together, especially when he was the only survivor in the chaos at the end. or b, leo told the chick to go to mark or something in the envelope.

also i definitely missed the sexual dysfunction that damon supposedly had.

i definitely wanna see it again.

also i agree with earlier posters that gangs of ny is an incredible movie. in fact it is perhaps my favorite film ever. due mainly to daniel day lewis. bill the butcher is one of the baddest characters of all time. he owned that movie. and ever since than i've been a huge fan of his and tried to see every movie of his i could. his latest the ballad of jack and rose is also pretty amazing.

no fucking way in hell was this movie better than goodfellas or casino. Goodfellas had so many memorable quotes and likeable characters that I can watch it over and over again. The Departed was good for the first 2 hours, then the killing spree that is the ending emerges.

All in all, I think that this movie was average, nothing special, but certainly not a classic as the media over-hyped it to be

if most movies were anywhere near the quality of this movie, i'd crap myself.

i'm not saying it's a classic or anything, but it's one of the best movies (particularly mainstream movies) to come out last year.

Yeah, definitely not the greatest movie ever but definitely better than most shit out

maybe people are saying it's average because of the amazing cast it had so they just expected it to be the greatest movie ever and it kind of let them down

couldn't disagree more.

I watch about 75% of all movies released (everything from independant to major releases) and this movie was easily better than 95% of the movies that came out last year.
